The rebate form states "Offer good on purchases made at Staples and Staples.com only between January 11, 2004 and February 28, 2004." No where does it state that this rebate had any conditions regarding purchase price. They are or should be legally bound to pay the rebates regardless of the purchase price. So ignore that CSR BS and send it in. BTW- I managed to get one ordered. Hope it doesn't get cancelled.

Just got back from the b&m and scored the 120GB extenal for $86.69 out the door (used a $20 off $100 coupon). Now for that $30 rebate


btw...the csr told me another substitution item is the Sony or PNY 256mb microdrive for $45 out the door. Staples is matching the after rebate price of the Sandisk 256mb drive. Your store will need to be out of the Sandisk 256mb for this to work. Don't know how hot this is but thought I'd throw it out there

Hmm..the Asst. Manager just said the same thing to me.... the rebate won't apply.....not sure if this is true, but it can't hurt to try, can it?

BTW, what's all this "rebate center" stuff...I can't seem to just print out the rebate form.....looks like I have to "log in" for it.....that's new.....

Go to the bottom of the rebate page that comes up. Just click on 'Print Mail-In Form'. This one prints out on two pages.

Tell me about it. I'm beginning to think that with the plethora of hard drive deals especially from WD and Maxtor that they must be sitting on thousands and thousands of drives that they want to unload before they make a serious push of SATA drives onto the market. So I'm thinking that they are willing to get whatever they can while they can for these drives before they end up FAR.

The rebate will be fine. Staples csr's etc have no clue how rebateshq processes rebates so they can say anything they want.

If you're worried about not receiving the rebate, take the hd back or cancel the order. I'm not worried in the least because I'm quite sure the rebate will be paid.

I bought a maxtor 160gb two weeks ago from Office Depot and the rebate goes to the same place except the Dept. # and valid promotion dates are different. Will the rebate on this Staples order be valid.

Watch out guys ... the CSR sharks are getting restless ... the first CSR on the phones I called just downright refused to give me the drive because she said that I had not been to a Staples and seen that they were out of stock, best part is, I actually WAS at Staples here locally and they WERE out of stock of both the 120 & 160 GB drives ...

So I called back and told them that I had just gotten back from my local Staples, BLAH BLAH, and they told me to call them for the substitute ... the CSR made me repeat the coupon discount code of #52846 (which is the discounted $80.04 code) and then he said, "Ok, that is our verification that you actually were in the store." I tried to order more than one but they only let me order one. Oh well, I wanted two to set up a RAID formation but I guess one is OKIE DOKIE for me ...

I went to my Staples, saw none behind the counter, but saw 2 160 GB hard drives... I was thrilled to death! Then I played the game, "do you have any more of the 120GB hard drives that are on sale?" And sure enough, they had half a dozen on a table near the entrance. Not to be defeated, I scored one online. Personally, I'm not worried about the rebate. It works out to under 50 cents per GB which is the buy point for me. Getting the rebate, however, would make this a sweet deal, instead of what I'd expect to pay.

Building my computer in another week or so... if these deals keep popping up, I'm going to have a sweet system for very little money (already did the optical mouse, keyboard FAR and 52x burner for $4.99 AR) I wish I hadn't passed up that watercooling case earlier this week!

You should have demanded her CSR number so that you could report her. How DARE she tell you where you've been w/o knowing for a fact. The other day I was in chat with a CSR and it was like talking to a computer. There was no personality on the other side and I flat out told her that I was human too and that she didn't have to be so COLD. I so know she wanted to mouth off to me, but I'm sure those chats get monitored and the CSR's know that!

still accepting via phone, though it was an hour's wait. The CSR said that there were hundreds of calls in the queue, with probably 90% calling for this deal. Picked up the 160 + the TDK CDRs for 77.45 - $30 rebate - $10 rebate.
