I got the 9700 TX with an earlier purchase and I'm very happy with it. It performs very close to a Radeon 9700 non-Pro which sell retail for well over $200 still, I think. It is slightly slower clock-speed 263/263 versus 275/275, but this isn't much of a difference.

So for $140 minus 15% if you received the offer from Dell it is a good deal.

For about $200 more than the $367 4550 configuration these are the differences..

8250 versus 4550

4x DVD+RW drive instead of cd-rom drive
64mb GeForce4 mx instead of 32mb ATI rage
MS Office XP small business edition instead of Wordperfect suite
256mb pc1066 rdram instead of 128mb pc2700 ddr
2.4 P4 instead of 2.66 P4
30gig HD instead of 60gig HD

8250..$536 (pre-tax, after $100 rebate)
4550..$341 (pre-tax, after $100 rebate)
Not saying it's a better deal, but $200 isn't bad for those things if someone wanted them.

if they gave you the same proc. speed and hdd space, it might be worth it, but imho, the 4550 deal is a little nicer.

are you guys not counting tax into the final price? Shouldn't the title be 367+ tax. I mean tax is 70-100 depending on your config.

what state do you live in that tax is close to 100 bucks for a 400 dollar purchase ?

It should be like $50.00 bucks max for tax.

Whats the spec's on the motherboard for this deal? Dell seems to be getting this computer together rather quickly. I ordered it around midnight and its already in the "testing" stage. The estimated ship date is next wednesday but maybe it could be sooner.

i am looking into this deal. and i found that the mobo chipset is a 845PE w/ 1 G max 333Mhz of memory. kind of weak, but can't beat the price. i am looking into building one w/ a p4 2.4 w/ a better mobo instead of the dimension deal. but it's hard to beat this price. my BIG concern is the weak 180 W PSU in it.

Does anyone know here about the floppy drive I need for this comp? Will any kind work out with the case setup or do I need to have special one's from dell?

my BIG concern is the weak 180 W PSU in it.

A lot of people complain about the PSU but I've had a 4550 with the standard PSU since last fall and I'm running a CD-RW, DVD writer, two 120GB hard drives, a Radeon 9700, sound card, and firewire card and haven't had any power issues at all.

Where the hell do you live that makes you quote tax of at least 15%?

I just got my confirmation... purchased 2 Dell 4550's - grand total (with tax and minus the MIR) is $721.90 (so $360.95 each).

I did not purchase the systems online, but instead called the SB number (1-800-295-3355) and asked if they would give me the coupon even though I did not have a coupon code. YMMV but I don't see why they'd do it for me and not do it for anyone else.

Specs on the systems:
Dell Dimension 4550 Series: Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.66GHz w/533MHz front side bus/ 512K L2 Cache
Memory: 128MB DDR SDRAM at 333MHz
Keyboard: Dell® Quietkey® Keyboard
Monitors: No Monitor
Video Cards: 32MB ATI® Rage? Ultra Graphics Card
Hard Drive: FREE UPGRADE! 60GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive
Floppy Drive and Additional Storage Devices: No Floppy Drive
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Mouse: Dell® 2-button scroll mouse
Network Interface: Integrated Intel® PRO 10/100 Ethernet
Modem: No Modem Requested
CD or DVD Drive: 48x Max CD-ROM Drive
Sound Card: Integrated Audio
Speakers: No Speaker Option
Software Bundles: WordPerfect® Productivity Pack with Quicken New User Edition

Ordered around 9:00 pm EST Thursday night and as of 4:27 PM EST Friday it's in the testing phase. Would really like this early next week so we'll see.

Also ordered 512MB of Kingston PC2700 from Googlegear last night for $69

Dell's power supplies are underrated. I'm currently using an old Dell system with a "200-watt" power supply. It has a 1 GHz P3 processor, 512 MB of RAM, 2 optical drives, 2 hard drives, and a GF4 Ti4200 video card (which requires a 300-watt power supply), and I've never had a problem with it.
