It's updated now and I just ordered. I also ordered just after midnight just to make sure that I got the drive, but since I was able to order now, I am going to cancel my original order. It's going to be $129.94 AR and coupon + tax.Is there a reason why the website still shows the drive at 250, with no instant rebate and no mail-in rebate? When is the website going to be updated?

Yes, you are correct. It only does 4X on - media. it does 8X on +. Plextor uses software technology to achieve the 8X result. It isnt truly a 8X drive.

No. Someone at another forum tried with the firmware for 8X and it died immediately.

I would imagine it is a decent drive. Sony is getting out of the business for DVD Burners and rumor has it that they are going to put their name on Lite-on as their rebadge.
I don't use DVD-X-Copy I use DVD2SVCD-Cinema Craft Encoder) and Pinnacle Instant Copy.
The new Firmware for the Lite-on reolves the media compatability issues. Just make sure if you get the Lite-on that the serial number has an 8 as the 6th digit. That has the new Chipset that Liteon is using. It is actually the 451S even though the box says 411S. If it doesnt have the 8 as the 6th digit you are getting the inferior chipset.
As far as the TDK/Plextor goes I have been reading that it can burn a DVD in about 8 min at full burn speed.
