But my order for I/O Magic CDRW is in backoder, and I placed my order on Sep. 1st, does that mean I am screwed?

Thank you for your time,

No, I think they have 16x rewrite now, generally seen with the 48x speed burners.
Does it REALLY matter? I dunno about you, but for me the CDR's are getting so freaking cheap now, its not even worth the extra money and time/hassle spent to burn one. I mean I got 110 cd's for like $5 a short time back at bestbuy. That's what, under 5 cents per cd? For a nickel, isn't it worth just grabbing another CDR when you fill up the first?

Anyway the differance between 12x and 16x rewrite is something like 6:40 for a 80 min burn and 5 mins for the 16x (give or take, I'm not counting TOC or stuff).

As for the lite-ons, no they are NOT all upgradable to 48x. Get a link to mysticman1 previous hot deal thread on the 40 speed burners, he had full details and specs and serial info on what exact lite ons were upgradeable and what ones were not.

Thanks MysticMan1. With your help I was able to score on a Liteon. It was a real hassle to get them to come through online with the OD coupon, at least with the CSR I got. Made the order Sunday and got the drive today. Rebate goes out tomorrow. The CSR's definitely know all about the AT effect.

Print out the page showing the "$20 off $75 purchase" and give that to the OfficeMax driver, that's if you see him. A OfficeMax driver left my box in front of my door, never knocked on the door to ask for the coupon or for me to sign for package. Now I have to call the CSR back to get the coupon discount taken off my order.

I think they are asking people to give the driver the coupon to see if they can scare off people who don't now really have a coupon and don't know what's going on.

Update: I called a CSR and told her about the driver not picking up the coupon and she ask for the URL for the on-line coupon, so I give her the coupon code and the office Depot URL to enter the code. She said she would send a message to have the $15 taken off my change card. I will have paid $5 + tax for the 40x CDRW drive.

I've done 2 of these OM deals and in each case the CSR has applied the coupon to the order up front and then asked that I give it to the driver. In both these cases it was UPS and there's no way they care about the coupons. I believe Mystic Man is correct in his theory that OM did this to scare away those who feel they can't produce a coupon.

But now the latest twist is that OM appears to be charging full price and only applying coupon discounts as a credit after you order and after you fax them a paper coupon. This pretty much precludes the OD competitive coupons since they are primarily web links to an automatic discount. (It's kind of shi*ty of them to make you pay before they agree to accept your coupon!!) OM also refuses the OD B&M coupons since they don't allow online discounts at OD so why should OM accept them.

It appears as though the best way to use coupons at OM is their own or the Staples coupons. I can't see how OM can have knowledge whether a one time use Staples coupon has actually ever been used.

The retailers have made it harder to do PM's now that they make them "net" of any coupons, discounts, and rebates. Now they are cracking down on coupon related discounts.

Quick question, as far as the copies of the reciept and UPC are concerned, for the CD player, will it be ok if I scan it and print it out, or do I need to actually go to a copy machine?

A print out of the receipt and UPC will be accepted. Also anyone who purchased more than one CDRW can receive a free CD Player for each CDRW they purchased.

i apologize if this question has been asked before, but... am i still eligible for this rebate if i got a $30 rebate on a 32X Cendyne Lightning II many months back? If it says "one rebate per consumer, per household..." would that apply to that drive specifically? if this is a 40x.. would it work for me?

thanks

It's usually one rebate per household per program. Look at the PO box number or program code number on the rebate form.

Ok two important questions:

1. As far as the rebate goes for the CENDYNE drive, does the packing slip that ships in the box for phone orders, count as the reciept? for those of you who ordered over the phone, what are you sending as a reciept?

2. I went to OC freaks, but im still not sure what to do.. which file do I grab... and also, how do I get to DOS if im using XP?

I have one of the LiteOn 40x drives. Theyre also the buslink ones that bestbuy had on sale a few weeks ago for $34.95. Its a great drive. I had a plextor, and was sorta iffy about moving to a cheap kind, but this thing is great. Hasnt made a single coaster yet. Only downside is, it can be alittle loud at times, but that goes away after it spins down. And the nero software that it came with doesnt seem to let me burn at 40x, it only does it at 23x...for whatever reason. If I use a different program, like cdrwin or something, it does it at 40x..just a problem with nero(although, i had problems with nero with my plextor drive too, so it could be my computer)

To run dos inside XP, you run command.com. If you mean completely out of windows, the only way that I know of is hit F8 before the windows screen comes up, just hold it down after your hard drives and that are recognized, and hit Safe mode-Command prompt only. If you formatted your drive to NTFS, I'm not really sure how that works, because I dont think dos can see anything other than FAT or FAT32

About the LiteOn drive that I just posted above, after I posted that, I realized it was my crap discs I was using, not the burner or the software. I clicked 'detect speed' in nero, and it actually detected the drive speed at 46.5x!
