First of all I tried to phone order to specifically ask for the cendyne drive and I was met with a brick wall. The guy said it was instore only and that the local distributor had none in stock. So why are they advertising both sku's I ask? And why the heck would it be instore only if the other drive is on their site? Wierd. So after I hung up I noticed something on the verbatim internet product page. Unless I'm blind, there appears to be NO verbatim MFR rebate, only the $40 Officemax MIR. The second rebate pdf linked is for the CENDYNE drive. Needless to say, you will not get a $30 rebate from cendyne for purchasing the verbatim drive! This means the advertised $80 off in rebates is BS if they don't send the 4x Cendyne. So I call em back again and they told me to call the rebate center monday to get the "proper" rebate. I hope I'm wrong here and just not reading things right, but if I'm not someone please confirm.

I just noticed that too. I hope it the Manufacture's rebate shows up. =/ Actually I hope i get a Cendyne 4x instead. =D

Wow, and now I forgot something too . I called staples to see if they would pricematch the after rebate price on officemax. She specifically said that they cannot pricematch MIR or MFR, and will only pricematch after INSTANT rebates. Therefore, deal #2 is not possible unless you are lucky enough to talk to someone who doesn't know the policies.

I have PM the after rebate price on 4 different items in the past 2 weeks at Staples.com but I always buy the item first using a coupon then after 15 minutes call and do the PM ubder their low price guarantee, and get the $110% PM.

Right now I'm waiting for the stores to open so I can call to see if they have the CenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R Drive in stock, if the anwser is yes then I will have Staples PM to that store.

Just so happens that I saw the ad sheet in OM today. It specifically says that the $30 MIR WILL be honored, along with the OM $40 MIR. I have a copy! I can't host it, but if someone needs proof, I do have it.

The last time this was on sale it showed a Cendyne rebate also. I was told it would be honored then too!

It's Officemax policy that it's up to the manager of each store to accept or not accept a on line only coupon or a in store coupon from Staples or Office depot. Check with your local Officemax manager to see if they will accept one of these coupons.

The Verbatim DVD+RW/R being on backorder is not necessarily bad, remember they showed 2 item numbers in the ad so if they are OOS on the first item (the Verbatim DVD+RW/R) they should send you the second item in the ad (the CenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R Drive). We will find out in 2 days.

My local OM told me the same thing. They say Verbatim and Cendyne are the same company (Verbatim is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Company; no info on Cendyne on their web site) and the rebate will be honored by Cendyne. I told them if it doesn't float, I'm coming back to ask them to pay up. To be safe, I'm keeping not just a copy of the rebate paperwork (like I always do) but also of the booklet which tells you what page to look up. I'm also printing out the Quick Reference jpeg provided in the Intentional Repost thread by TheDiggler

thanks for the clarification MysticMan1.

On a different note, my local OM has a line outside when the store opened; with some people waiting an hour. I got there about 2 minutes after they opened and people were already at the checkout. Funny thing is that they had plenty of stock - nothing was OOS for me

ok, i'm very frustrated and confused. can anybody offer any advice to me?

while this deal is for dvd+ burners, it seems that most, if not all, dvd players are only compatible with the dvd- format. however, the only dvd- burner i've found in stores is the sony combo drive which goes for a whopping $350!!!!! since i want this drive to burn video disks to play on my home theater, a burner that isn't compatible with dvd players is worthless. however, given the lack of dvd- burners on the market, i'm wondering if this format is dying out and it's just a matter of time before most players can accept dvd+. does anyone have any thoughts on this, or inside knowledge, or anything?

thanks in advance,

joe

BTY: I called my local Officemax store yesterday and ask if they had the CenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R Drive in stock and was the price the same as the Verbatim 2.4x, the answer was yes they have it iin stock and yes the price is the same as the Verbatim 2.4x, so if you bought the Verbatim 2.4x you might want to check your local store to see if they have the CenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R and can you exchange the Verbatim for the CenDyne 4x.

When I get a chance to I'm going to try to Staples PM a OM store at the after rebate price of $169.98 after using a $30 coupon.

the compatibility with - and + depends on the dvd player, most are compatible with both, especially if you don't own an old dvd player. Also neither formats are dying out, there will be lots of people claiming dash is the only way to go. I personally think the + will win out though.

I don't know where you are getting your infomation from but it totally wrong DVD+ is as compatible is DVD- drives are. The only at vantage that DVD- currently have over DVD+ is that the DVD- discs are cheaper than DVD+ discs but as DVD+ continues to become the dominate format that vantage will disappear.

Compatibility List DVD-Video Players

You can find more links to info on the DVD+ format at the beginning of this thread.

actually, i'm getting that from the manufactures specs on compatibility. i've hit multiple stored and web sites and i have only found one dvd player that says it's dvd+ compatible - i think it was a jvc single-disk player. since i want a 5-disk unit that does me no good at all. frankly, i trust the player manufactures a lot more than a dvd+ fanboy site, or any questionably reliable anecdotal information.

thanks, tho.
