This is on line, most Officemax stores will not accecpt on-line only coupons, although some will let you use them, it's totally up to the store manager.

So, what would be the best way to make sure we get the 4x instead of the 2x. I mean whats the best way to maximize our chances when ordering online?

Update : The ad for the Verbatim 2.4x DVD+RW/R Drive shows 2 SKU numbers one for the Verbatim 2.4x, the other is not for the new Verbatim 4x DVD+RW/R Drive but for theCenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R Drive that is now out, (the CenDyne 4x+ is not currently on their web site).

This is good because Staples has the CenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R Drive selling for $279.98, so we can have Staples PM the Officemax after rebate price of $169.99 and use a $30 off $150 Staples coupon = $139.98 and no rebate to deal with.

Link to the Staples CenDyne 4x DVD+RW/R Drive

Anyone have any idea who manufactures the Cendyne. All their drives are rebadged and if this is the nec 1100a it could be hacked to a +/- drive. Not positive about this but it definitely something to look into.

I don't think you can PM the "after rebate price." I've never been able to do it, unless it was an "instant rebate." good luck, though.

Do you know what needs to be done to "hack it" to +/- ????

Also, anyone have additional info on the $50 off and maybe a clue as to where to get it ??

You know me... I have not a clue !

Here's a clue, For OfficeMax or Staples coupons do a search on Google.com key word "OfficeMax coupons" or "Staples coupons"

i've seen talk about this, but i don't think it would work. not positive, but i think the +/- drive is the 1300 series, and the 1100 cannot be flashed.

gents,

this deal seems burning (pun intended!) but i've got a few questions:

- my sole reason for burning dvd's will be to convert my home video's to a format that's playable on my (and my relatives) dvd players. everything i've read points to dvd-r being more compatible with dvd players than dvd+r - especially older players like mine (a marantz 4000). can anyone shed light on this for me?

- can anyone recommend a brand of blanks that is highly compatible with home players?

- how exactly can one get this deal on the cendyne drive? this seems like a major stretch, esp. since most of the deal relies on MIR's. also, has anyone had success getting staples to pm the mir's? i thought most (all?) stores refused to pm mir prices .

No Officemax in my area will Staples still price match them?
Maybe online?

By the way I hate staples rebates but I might buy from them if
I don't have to mess with any rebates.

I don't think it's online. I guess they want to finish the Verbatim first, and that would be nationwide finishing

it doesn't seem like dvd+r is suported on the marantz drive you have. look here:

DVDRHELP.COM query

two guys got dvd-r to work, one guy couldn't get it to work (maybe it's the brand media) and nobody got dvd+r to work.

EDIT: i just bought a cendyne dvd-r (pio A05) from staples. not as hot as this deal, about $218 with a $50 rebate (that's including CA 7.75 tax). i don't care about format wars, i do know everything i use supports both dvd+r and dvd-r, and both formats can be used in the future, regardless of who wins. i bought the A05 based on the fact the media is cheaper. that's it. both are good formats, and both will be used in the future, and usable in the future. so if one wins out eventually, by then you can probably upgrade to a new drive for $19.99 AR at the rate mysticman keeps going:beer:

Check out my order from OfficeMax!! =D

First Order:
Kingston 256MB + 48x CDRW = $110 - $25(off $100 coupon) - $110 Mail-in Rebates = -$25 (Profit!)

Second Order:
Verbatim 2x DVD+RW/R Internal Drive + Kingston 256MB = $280 - $50(off $250 coupon) - $110 Mail-in Rebates = $120

Total Price after rebates (not including tax) = $120 - $25 = $95 !!!

$95...for a DVD Burner!! =D =D =D

Woops, disregard last accidentally hit enter (where's delete post or edit feature??). Anyway I have some confusing news about this deal.

First of all I tried to phone order to specifically ask for the cendyne drive and I was met with a brick wall. The guy said it was instore only and that the local distributor had none in stock. So why are they advertising both sku's I ask? And why the heck would it be instore only if the other drive is on their site? Wierd. So after I hung up I noticed something on the verbatim internet product page. Unless I'm blind, there appears to be NO verbatim MFR rebate, only the $40 Officemax MIR. The second rebate pdf linked is for the CENDYNE drive. Needless to say, you will not get a $30 rebate from cendyne for purchasing the verbatim drive! This means the advertised $80 off in rebates is BS if they don't send the 4x Cendyne. So I call em back again and they told me to call the rebate center monday to get the "proper" rebate. I hope I'm wrong here and just not reading things right, but if I'm not someone please confirm.
