PS: I printed out the weekly special for In-Store Specials for Los Angeles, CA and here is the thing that you can use to back up your rebate if OM doesn't take "trust me" claim. Note: This is for In-Store only and not valid in other areas.

Whether you trust MysticMan1 or not, independently verifying this info is always a good idea. As members of the forum, the more sample points we have on questionable data, the better.

Whenever I file a rebate that is not plainly obvious - this includes anything that requires a copy of the UPC or use of a substitute part - I submit a statement with my rebate explaining what is happening. In this case, if I were to file a rebate using the substitute Cendyne drive, I would include a copy of the sales flyer that has both the Verbatim and Cendyne part SKUs, and a paragraph explaining what is happening. I'd include phone number to OM (even they have them) to show that I have contacted OM myself before submitting the claim. The idea is to (1) hopefully prevent a problem in the event the person processing the claim is unsure, (2) if I had to resubmit the claim or visit my local OM to settle the issue, I can show that I made an effort to avoid the problem in the first place. Being proactive is always a safe thing to do and it really doesn't take much time to do.

LOL, you Junior Members are cracking me up, first you worried about the Verbatim rebate now you're worried about the CenDyne rebate and you haven't even received the DVD drive yet. It does matter that the Officemax rebate says DVD-RW as long as the rebate processing company and Officemax knows that the rebate is for DVD+RW drives. If that's to much for you to handle I would suggest that you immedeately cancel your order and that will solve all of your worries.

I didn't anything about "trust me", I don't work for Officemax and I couldn't care less if you or anyone else do this deal or not, my point was if you are worried about getting your rebate rejected you should cancel your order "NOW" and wait for the next DVD writer deal. I'm not worried because I have done hundred's of rebate through Officemax and even more through RebateHQ.com and have gotten ALL of them, when I have had a problem with a rebate I just call RebateHQ.com and they have fixed the problem every time.
If someone can't stand the heat they should only do the easy sure thing deals and this deal is not one of those deals.

Will it hasn't been rejected yet or approved either. I think the rep and his super were trying to discourage you from doing the PM. There's no reason for them to not do it but if they say no to the PM that's no problem I will just return the drive to a Staples store.

I did this deal on Monday and received my shipment today. It was the Verbatim 2.4X drive. I live in Houston. I received an email earlier in the week saying the shipment was going to ship out of Colorado.

Well the verbatim is now back on the website at a price of $249.99 with no mention of any rebate. Hmm thats not good. Today is only the 9th and the ad said the price was good through the 10th.

Ordered mine online at officemax.com. Received on last Friday. Burned one backup dvd using dvdxcopy 1.5 successfully on Sunday. Unfortunately, the drive refused to read anything feeded today. I have tried at least 5 dvd titles, 1 dvd+rw, several cd-rom disk and got no luck. Reinstalled my windows xp and the problem is still there. Have no idea what to do next since I already mailed out the original UPC and serial for rebate purpose. Any suggestions will be welcomed.

Thanks

one of the requirements of the cendyne rebate is that you register the product. do we have to submit any proof or will they check it themselves ?
