WTF?! i just called to order the scanner. the csr said i cant use a coupon code since the scanner comes w/a rebate. i then asked to talk to his supervisor, and she said the same thing?! they both mentioned that the rebate states it cannot be combined w/other offers or promotions.

Finally decided to order one yesterday. Have a couple of questions though:
1)If using staples.com's online rebate submission thing, do i still need to send the UPC later on?
2)if need to send the UPC, could it be the photocopy of it?
3)since i bought some other stuff together and used the coupon, do I tell AMEX that the price is $99.99- $20 coupon = $80 when i bought it if i want to PM to another vendor? But technically, only part of this 20 dollars is reflected on this scanner purchase because the whole 20 dollars applies to the whole order..?

I don't think that you can actually submit the rebate online, it just helps you to fill out the form.

It seems to be new software. I called to ask the same thing about an order last weekL: the order display on the web showed tax before the coupon but the amount actually charged to my account was tax after coupon. I also think the final total depends on regulations in different states.

1) Yes
2) No


When you fill out the online form you essentially do part of the data entry for the rebate fulfillment house and get the ball rolling. Then when you get the scanner you will still need to send the UPC and receipt which usually goes to a different promotion number (edit: actually looks like it's the same promo number)than the mail-in rebate route. So basically all the rebate house needs to do is verify the UPC and receipt thus saving them time. (no data entry for them)

Actually after completing the online entry I believe the rebate shows up on the rebate site as awaiting paperwork.

No, it happens all the time. The in-store advertisement will be out on Sunday and printed coupons match that. As long as the web form says that it is valid for in-store purchases, you can go ahead and submit it.

Yay! Ordered the scanner yesterday around 1pm, received it this morning!!! I already used it to scan some pictures and it looks pretty nice. No problems with XP here

For all those who couldn't get in on the deal online if you have a B&M near you, they might have a bunch there. Last week when they had the $70 deal, the website was sold out but the B&M near me had at least 20.

In case anyone's interested the store at Northpoing in Alpharetta has several. Some were marked "designed for XP", and some weren't. The one I picked up that was marked for XP had Paperport Ver. 7.

would the best course of action be to now
(1) use the coupon and try to combine it with the rebate
OR
(2) price match with anadratech ... and then try to use the rebate

would pricematching be in violation of their rebate rules (analogous to using the coupon)?

wouldn't mind getting a scanner. free or near-free is definitely cool. =)

I just got off the phone with a Staples CSR. Like other members reported previously, the CSR told me rebate wouldn't be honored if the scanner was purchased with the use of a coupon. She brought up the coupon issue herself before I had the chance to ask her. It sounds like there's some kind of internal memo about this scanner, asking CSR to inform the caller when inquired about this scanner.

The CSR also told me they had plenty of them in the warehouse. So it seems the reason Staples took it off from their website is to prevent people to order online and use coupon, forcing them to call in about it.

If you bought it online with the rebate recently, I'd strongly suggest you to call the rebate center and ask them if the rebate would be honored.

Where does it say on the rebate coupon that the rebate is invalidated by the use of a coupon for the purchase.

I am not attacking you, just stating the way I see it. If they do this, I'll write to BBB and other regulatory agencies till they honor what they are supposed to.

Well, I've used coupons in the past ($60 item - 50 rebate - 10 coupon) from Staples, and I've gotten the rebate check.

Their rebate forms all have language which is rather clear about them not being valid with any other offer or coupon. They never enforced it, however.

Question to those famiiar with Blue BVG: I just downloaded my transactions on Quicken and I noticed a credit and debit for the amount of the 2 scanners I bought last time with the wording "ADJ ROLL PROMO PRCH BAL". Does this mean that they have approved my BVG? It's dated Thursday and I finally faxed it over to them on Wednesday so it would make sense that they approved in Thursday. Thanks..

amgc, ya that's a good idea. Call the rebate center and ask them so they can turn around and ask Staples if they should start rejecting rebates if the person used a coupon, makes sense to me :|

Geez people, if you're so worried about not getting your rebate then don't use a coupon and don't try to pm. It's as simple as that. Ya, you won't get it as cheap as the rest of us but you won't have to worry about your rebate, will ya.
