still thats not bad...
i think you can configure for a larger hard drive....

where else can you get a notebook with SXGA+ (1680x1050) resolution and a 8600M GT for less then $800?
Notebook ram has significantly come down in price over the past few months so that is not a issue...

only thing that kinda sucks is how thick Dell notebooks are =(

Pretty good deal..... wished i didn't have a laptop so i can pick this up =)

Well you can lower the cpu to 2.0 ghz & get the 120gb or 160gb harddrive, 2GB ram and it'll be around $749 - $789 before taxes (free ground shipping). So it's still only OK?

My friend has a Vostro 1500 & I really like it. I'm thinking about buying this one (configured to be $768 after coupon)

I ordered a nicely specced Vostro 1700 for $786 (+tax..boo!) shipped. I think the 1700's have free shipping and the 120GB HD is standard. They didn't have an extra AC adapter available onlinr, but when I called in, the CSR allowed me to include it in the configuration price (thus meeting the $1249 minimum), and only charged me $39.99 instead of the standard $69.99 price that is advertised elsewhere on their site.

The only bad thing is that they won't sell you the Nvidia 8600 with XP on the 1700's. You have to choose Vista unless you get the integrated video. The CSR said they just started offering XP as an option on the 1700's, but haven't gotten XP working with the 8600 card yet.

I also picked up 4GB of OCZ ram at newegg for around $75 AR to finish it off. All in all, a pretty decent deal since I was planning to buy a very "basic" 17" laptop for around $750. Instead, I got a 2.2GHz C2D, a dedicated 8600 video card along with a spare battery, spare AC adapter and a few odds & ends for around the same price.

I need to get a laptop by mid-may, but will have no use for it until then, should I bite on this or wait? ( for some other deal/newer specs on the horizon (t9300, 800mhz m/b support, etc.))?
