6 000 000

it is closer to 8 000 000 - 10 000 000 probably

Great math skills BoKingWen And the average laptop to QUALIFY for this deal would have to be a bare minimum of $750, not $600. And that's revenue, not gross profit, that Dell got. We don't know the profit margins off these laptops (for obvious reasons) but I'm sure they made a decent profit out of this.

I still dont believe they got 10,000 orders in 40 minutes.

Add on top of that all the people placing non-inspiron orders and ones that got screwed (read me)....it doesnt add up.

Anyone else have experience with the Dell 6000? That's the model I just got and I would love to hear some more opinions!

The only thing I'm reconsidering is upgrading the X300 Radeon from 64mb to 128... I wonder what the performance difference is?

I believe it.

I believe. With dozens of deal sites posting this, thousands of daily vistors, and ebay resellers looking to make a profit... it's easy to understand this deal going that quick.

I didn't get my order in and in retrospect I'm glad I didn't because:
  • First and foremost I don't really need a new laptop, I'll just pay down our car loan with the $772 I would have spent on this laptop.
  • People have reported some prices were inflated a little, not sure if this is true or not. My "ideal" configuration before 8AM was $1522.
  • $899 minimum to receive free shipping kinda kills it for me, my total was around $772 after coupon.
  • I'm still undecided between the 700m and 6000. The local Dell kiosk will have a brand new Inspiron 6000 on display around 4/25. So this will give me more time to research models and possibly when I next buy a laptop I can get 2.0/DVD Burner for under $850 shipped. Besides I really like HP laptops and it's tough choosing between Dell and HP.

10,000 orders placed within 1 hour

Congratulations to those who got in and let's cross our fingers this will repeat around October 2005, I'll be ready and waiting.

I'm glad my order didn?t go through, on a positive note my site got hammered this morning.

Why are you glad your order didn't go through? Care to elaborate?

Our site/forums also got hammered but handled the traffic with no problems thanks to our dedicated server

64MB or 128MB, that x300 is crappy for 3D gaming.
if 2d gaming then i dont think it will matter. for me, i'd say save the cash. because since you got the x300, ur machine can upgrade the graphic card as opposed to intel integrated crap. then when time comes that 6800 geforce go comes down, grab that baby and upgrade

misconception:

600m does not have integrated intel for video, it comes with a radeon 9000, either 32 or 64. That's good enough to play warcraft and other games.

Yeah, at least it's upgradable in the future.... I wont be doing much gaming on it (home desktop is for that) but it's nice to know I can upgrade down the line.

Well, lucky for my co-worker, a good friend of mine is eligible for the EPP program. So just placed an order, came to $995 shipped for a 700m:

1.8ghz
256mb ram (going to newegg for another 512)
60gb hard drive
2yr warranty
2nd battery (8-cell)
24x Burner/DVD Combo

$1725 - $750 = $975 - $58.50 (6% discount) + $77.85 tax = $994.35

Not bad.

lack of sleep caused me to post a useless question which I have now removed.
On a side not I got the 6000 and will be upgrading the ram myself.

I configured my 6000 with 256MB RAM, so I'll be ordering more from newegg too. Those memory prices look decent. Thanks!

Ok, it was a bad time to be away from AT over the past couple days/nights. Anyway, I'm reading through these DeLL deals now. I'm eligible for EPP also. The $750 off is working in EPP as well? Also, the deal above does not seem that great, no?

The deal through the EPP program is not as good as the one that only lasted 40 mins.

It forces you to acquire the 'security' sfw as well as the warranties. Not bad if you were going to get these items anyway but not as good none the less.

I think their most recent figures put their yearly sales at $49 billion. I doubt even all the sales generated from Hot Deals sites like AT, FW, SD, BS, BB, or GD account for even 1% of that.

If you're doing the EPP, make sure you choose the least amount of warrenty options and you should be all set. It'll only cost ~$50 more.... well, it did in my case anyway.

I ordered a 6000 and have a few questions for you guys. Why upgrade the RAM yourself on the 6000? Isn't Crucial 256 running at $71, while the Dell upgrade is only $50, making it cheaper to go through Dell if you want 2x256?

And what about the warranty? I've never had a laptop, and although this will primarily be a desktop replacement that would be moved at most once a week, do any of you think paying the extra $130 for the 2 year warranty is worth it? What about the extra $250 for 2 years with accident protection? Also, can you extend your warranty after buying the laptop? What about after receving it? Any input on that is appreciated.

Finally, I'll have the 8X DVD drive and the 60GB HDD to sell (upgrading both) in about a month, so if anyone is interested send me a PM. I'll sell them reasonably cheap if I don't have to go through the hassle of putting them on an auction site.
