Well, no go for the OM deal. Called again, and they said drive is still OOS, and they don't have any ETA on when new drives will arrive at warehouse. When asked about rebates, they said 'Sorry, nothing they can do, until drive is shipped, and they won't extend the rebate dates for backorder items."
My only choice was cancel order, or wait for drive to ship, then return drive.

I then head over to CC, and what do you know, they said, fine no problem, and walked out the door with the drive at OM price of 140 (-10%) +tax - 100(rebates) total = about $40 AR. Works for me, and they actually print out and give you everything you need - the copy of the UPC code to send in. Nice!!

So a BIG + for CC manager, and a huge - to the OM manager.

So i'm haveing really bad luck with this. I went to Officamax and they would not accept the printable Staples coupon. So i'm back to square one. The drive I have order is still on backorder, and tomarrow is the last day to get it in the store. Does anyone have any sugestions? Please help! Thanks.

Thought I would post an update for those who are/have backordered on the Western Digital 120GB SE drive.

Ordered #2034-6127 on Sunday (5/25) @ 10:45am via the 877.633.4236 number, after being told both the 2MB cache and 8MB cache drives were OOS. Ordered two other FAR rebate items (100 Slim cases, 100 KHypermedia CDRs) to use $30 off $150 phone coupon. Total was $149.37 with 8.25% Nyc sales tax. $41.37 after rebates (in theory).

Both FAR rebate items arrived on Wednesday (5/28). No drive, of course.

Spoke to a CSR in regards to the backordered drive on Thursday (5/29). Was surprised but skeptical to hear her say "it appears a shipment of drives arrived at our delivery center." Further surprised to hear her say "let me make an inquiry into the status of one being sent to you".

WD1200JBRTL in new plastic packaging arrived Friday (5/30).

For those who have backordered, you may want to call and ask for a status update as it may expedite this process. The delivery center for Nyc is Secaucus, NJ; ergo, this deal may still be alive (obviously, only through Saturday the 31st) for anyone within this delivery area.

I just went to an OM here and they just gave me a raincheck, and are going to SHIP the drive to me, i have the raincheck that was signed by a rep and they put the 2 rebates on there, i guess to ensure that i could get them still...

I thought it worked out pretty nice..... and since i paid for it today, my receipt is good for 14 days.. if i dont get it by then.... i dunno, but they told me they'd have it in less then a week, and the UPS delivery will take like 2 days from here to my house.. Hopefully i get it fast enough to use the rebates...

Just called the 877 number to check the status of my drive which was backordered (ordered it on sunday 5-25 around 1pm). The guy said it's no longer on backorder and i should get it on Tuesday. Just in time to get my rebates out the door before the 14 day time runs out on the one rebate.

russw for some reason i didn't get a officemax ad either last sunday. I think the deal may have supposely been for only certain officemaxs in each state. Which sucks. I did print out the officemax ad though.

Odd thing about this is I did find a local b&m with one drive on hand Friday night but they had it for full price. Today - Saturday - I went over to my closest store to ask the mgr about a sub for the laser printer listed in that ad printout. They had an in-store sign showing the printer "as advertised" with the same offering. When I asked her whether the hd was listed she looked over her store memo and said yes it had instant and mir's but that all stores were sold out. ODD I thought in that it wasn't even advertised in greater LA/OC/Inland Empire area.

Couldn't be easier.

Called my local OM and had them put one on hold. Stopped by 10 minutes later to pick up the 8mb 120 gig wd drive which is advertised to be $139.99 in store - $80 in rebates = $59.99. At the register I pulled out a $15 off $125 officemax.com coupon from chubywallet and asked if they could "match" this because it was "sold out online." After a quick check with a friendly manager it was approved and I'm out the door with a $44.99 top of the line 120 gb hard drive after rebates!!!

btw if this deal is still running, most of the greater Portland area OM's still have these in stock (with no tax of course - isn't Oregon great!)

Yeah, Oregon is great! You have high property tax and no sales tax and about the highest unemployment in the country but besides that its great.

Well I screwed this deal up. I purchased drive+keyboard+paperclips, used $30 coupon on 5/22 to secure mechandise. But forgot to return/rebuy merchandise before today (6/1) and now the sale is over.

So I'm heading back to OM to return the drive. UGH!

My rebate for the 8meg Cache, 120 gig drive was INVALID according to their site. I called up, and the guy said that the UPC is incorrect. TUrns out, the only UPC that they say is acceptable is the one for the 2meg cache. I'm going to resubmit the UPC with an explanation. Just thought I would give everyone a heads up on this.

That sucks. Which rebate is this? Does anyone have the printout of the sales ad that you could send them? The sales ad showing the rebate offers along with the item number? If you do, can you please scan it? This would be nice to include with a resubmission if you do get denied or just to send with your original submission (I haven't sent mine in yet).

Since my drive is coming tomorrow (I called to check status and the rep I spoke to had no idea when or if it might ship, then I got a voicemail today saying that a driver came and nobody was home -- thanks for the notice!), I thought I'd chime in on the rebate validity issue.

Besides the fact that OM advertised the 8meg drive specifically by part number (OM reps claim they don't stand behind their advertised rebates, but how do they feel about false advertising claims?), the language of the rebates themselves is important.

The OM rebate states "Purchase a Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive and Receive a $30.00 Rebate". There is no mention of a UPC, part, model, or SKU number of any kind. It's conspicuous ny its absence.

The Western Digital Rebate states "Offer D: Buy any Western Digital 120 GB hard drive and receive a $50 rebate via mail". The fact that it specifically and expressly states "any" drive of that capacity is enough, but look at the rebates for the 40 and 60 GB drives. They don't say "any", they say "a". When differences appear in language like this, it is presumed that the change was intentional. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the 40 and 60 GB drives don't come in 8MB versions, while the 80 and 120 do, thus accounting for the change in language.

This better not hold up. I thought about this when submitting online and wondered if I should have just sent the normal OfficeMax form in. Their form made no distinction between which model was valid. I did include that form to bolster my case should it be challenged. The ad clearly showed both model #'s so hopefully this will not be an issue for all of us.

People keep saying the ad shows both model numbers but it doesn't. It shows one box (2MB) but lists two ITEM NUMBERS. But since they are out of stock on-line, you can't get printed verification that item 2034-6127 is OfficeMax's item number for the 8MB drive. Any search or catalog order attempt just gives you a generic OOS message and suggests to check B&Ms. I had hoped my in-store receipt would list an item number but it doesn't. I know that shipped order receipts always include the item number. What would help is a scan of an online order receipt showing that 2034-6127 IS the 8mb 120GB drive or a printed catalog listing it. Unfortunately, the only printed catalog I have doesn't list the 8MB version.
