Okay, FWIW: I talked to Victor at OfficeMax.com at 6:55 MST on 2003-06-03. I asked if item 2034-6127 was in stock. He asked if that was a disk drive and I said yes. He said it wasn't in stock. I then asked what is the disk drive model for that item number and he said it was a WD1200JBRTL, which IS the 8MB model.

Of course WE all knew that, but for those with in-store receipts not listing the item number, it is a little more evidence that the 8MB model is listed in the ad for both a $30 and $50 rebate.

Thanks for posting the link to the ad (even if you didn't scan it yourself. ) I need to print it yet, so please keep it up another couple of hours if you would.

It doesn't matter if the drive is in stock or not. Officemax should have a record of what the item number is. All they have to do is punch it into their system and verify that they were advertising the 8 mb cache drive as well as the 2 mb cache drive.

I was afraid they would pull this stunt, but this is only for the $30 rebate, not the $50 correct? The $50 doesn't say ANYTHING about a UPC code, only the stupid 'capacity' label.

I saw that they didn't list the UPC code for the 8MB cahce drive, and was worried they would reject it. If I were you, I would call up OfficeMax, and tell them to get their act together, then THEY can conntact rebateshq.com and tell them to allow the 8MB cache drive!

OK, i don't see where you're sayingthat the $30 dollar rebate has a UPC number listed. It simply says "Purchase a western digital 120gb hard drive and receive a $30.00 rebate". Since that is what it says, they don't have a leg to stand on as to them saying it is only for the 2mb model. Simply tell them to show you where on the rebate form it says the 2mb model is the only one allowed for this rebate. I didn't find the $30.00 rebate form on the rebateshq.com webpage, but i did find the 50.00 one, and it lists both models. So i'm going to send mine in and see what they say.

You're exactly right. I'm afraid the problem is that when you submit the rebate online, the RebatesHQ form might only list the 2mb model. I'll have to look at the printout when I get home. I would hope that between the wording on the actual OM rebate form and the way the ad was ran with both part numbers being listed, our rebate will go through ok. It might just take a phone call or e-mail. Positive thinking, polite explanation to CSR = $30 rebate check Let's hope

Exactly. I didn't submit mine online. Am going to send it via snail-mail, that way i KNOW that it doesn't specifically say it's only the 2mb model. Will be easier to inform the CSR about what it really says this way

Don't ya just love messing with rebates ?

What would purchasing PC equipment be without rebates I now wish I would have taken the snail-mail method as well, but hopefully I won't get burnt. I've had really good luck with rebates coming back to me so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the streak will continue. I guess the awesome deals sometimes require a little bit of extra work.

Just in case this deal was not already complicated enough...

I just got my 8MB drive in (with a 3 year warranty indicated, but I don't want to start that debate again), and of course...no receipt or packing slip. :frown:

Has anyone tried to submit a rebate with the e-mail invoice that the CSR's try to push? Two reps have told me that these e-mails are accepted as regular receipts for rebates, but come on? Really? I can't believe the jumbled mess that they e-mail you is really accepted as a receipt.

Does anyone has experience with this?

P.S. The RebatesHQ terms specifically and expressly include the 8 meg SE version:
OfficeMax Offer only! Offer valid on applicable product Western Digital 7200 RPM 120GB EIDE Hard Drive {UPC 718037104096} or
120GB 8MB SE HHD {UPC 718037104287}.
They may have changed the language since the problems arose.

I do see this description for the WD rebate, but not the OM one.

I see what you mean...I didn't realize that the OM rebate was even on RebatesHQ.

Now back to my question, which evidently has happened to quite a few people: is the invoice e-mailed by a customer service rep good enough for a rebate? If you've tried it, has it worked?

No, I have never tried submitting the e-mailed invoice for a rebate claim. When you spoke with the OM CSR, did you ask them if they could fax you a copy of your receipt? I know Staples does this so maybe OM will as well.

I have used the email copy of an invoice on several occasions with Officemax rebates. No problems, rebate is always paid. If there is a shipping document in the box, I include that as well.

Do the e-mails look all "squished"? The ones I've always received have no formatting and look ridiculous. Do you reformat them so they're readable, or do you receive them properly formatted?

Well I'm pissed off now. I got an INVALID submission on the 50.00 rebate from WD. I sent in a copy of my recept and the capacity label. This is what rebateshq says:

Promotion: $50 Rebate on Western Digital 120GB 7200 RPM EIDE Hard Drive ((or)) 8MB SE HHD ((SEVEN DAY OFFER ONLY)) OFFICEMAX OFFER!!
Submission Type: MAIL
Date Received: 06-05-2003
Status: Invalid
Status Detail: The 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE 120GB 8M SE HHD.Capacity or UPC Number we received with your rebate submission is not correct. Please send the correct one to: ATTENTION RESUBMISSIONS, PO BOX 9013 Coppell, TX 75019.

What the hell? There's only one capactiy label on the freakin box. Is there a way to actually contact rebateshq? All I get is there dumb automated options, no real person to talk to.
This is the first rebate I've ever had a problem with.

Edit: my bad, posted in haste. The rebate tracking thread had my answer in it. Thanks to FiRESTORM for the heads up.

Well that doesn't sound good. Anyone else have a problem? Was your HD box one of the 'plastic' ones? I just cut out where it said "Special Edition 120 Gigabytes" on the lower right hand corner (Where it says "Proof of Purchase 1 & 2" on the back). I hope that's ok. Let us know what they say.

Yeah, I had a plastic box. I only sent in the the part where it said "Special Edition 120 Gigabytes" also. Apparently, they want the UPC code as well (nicely unmentioned in the rebate form). Look at the Rebate Tracking Thread for more details.

Hmmm. I too received the HD in the plastic housing. Mailed the "original" capacity label section (what the rebate asks for), "copy" of the UPC section (for the heck of it), and a copy of my invoice on 6-4-03. If I see it becomes invalid, then they'll hear it from me. By the way, I didn't submit either rebate online ($30 or $50). Simply filled-out the PDF forms from the OfficeMax site, and mailed them away. We'll see what gives.

I received two drives in the plastic packaging. I just sent in the UPC part and both of my rebates are showing as valid.

I know.. These rebate houses are all full of crap. One wants the capacity label, another wants a UPC. They not only make the instructions and terms difficult to follow, they seem to change their terms without letting you know about it. Whenever I have the slightest question about a rebate I call the center and I tell them straight up that the reason why I'm calling is because they have to make the rebates to impossible in the first place, that I need to absolutely know what is correct, so I don't end up with an invalid rebate submission. Screw em' if they feel like I'm wasting their time talking about rebate submission details.

Well I got through to an actually person at the rebate center and they told me that it was a "glitch" in the computer system. So even though the website shows invaild, its suppose to be vaild. I guess I'll have to check back later and hope the website updates my status. They better pray that guy wasn't lying to me.

WTF, pardon me, I sent in the whole damn front paper. It should include the capacity label. Don't they know WD has a new packaging for this item.

Anybody received this?

They are screwing with me too:
The UPS Label you send does not match the 80GB HD Rebate. Please submit the correct label.

Welll duh... it doesn't match... I submitted a rebate for 120GB with all forms needed. Rebates starting to get real anoying!
