(Dead) Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive for $29.99 ARs & coupon at Officemax

Hey guys -

I got the drive here. All they had was the BB (2 Meg version), so I took it anyways. It was the last 120gb WD Drive within the WHOLE area, so I took it anyways.

I put it in my comp, but now I've been having other thoughts. I called another BB who had the 8meg version, but was out of them, but said they might be getting a shipment today.

The question is - now that I've put it in my comp, is there anything I can do to return it if they get the 8meg version? I'd really rather have it, and it'd take a load off my mind.

Do you know what OfficeMax return's policy is for this? What about if it's uh.... broken?

Please respond, gotta make a decision soon!

OM return policy is good. 14 or 30 days as long as you have all original packaging and stuff. Shouldn't be any problem returning it. Look on the back of the receipt for the actual policy. I've returned stuff there and they ask no questions.

Got an SE 120GB today. printed out a 10 off 20 coupon but they wouldnt accept it! "we don't accept print outs, we need to original." burnnnn. they had like 20 drives though i was surpirsed.

Yep. I've returned a scanner I didn't like, a CD-RW, DVD writer. I have never returned a hard drive but I don't see why they wouldn't take it back. Heck, if they took back a $200 DVD writer they should take back a $140 HD. Wouldn't hurt to call them ahead of time to check.

Scored the SE drive today via phone order. The delivery guy was some courier OM hired, so there was no mention of any coupon. Great deal, MysticMan1 and everyone else who contributed.

Hmm.. I just got off the phone with OM, and they said that the chance is getting the OOS HD before the rebates expires is not good at all.

I then asked again about using phone/online coupons @ B&M , and they did say it is 100% up to the manager.

So you have to have a nice manager to deal with.

It was $179.98 - $30 coupon for $149.98. Then after $110 in rebates it will be $39.98 plus all taxes. IN Calif here, it will be $51.79 after the taxes. The CDRW will get me a chunk of that back on eBay.

The manager at the Davis, CA store wouldn't let me use the 30 off coupon because it's for phone/internet orders. This guy always gives me a hard time. Black guy with bad hair and bloodshot eyes.

When I called OM, they wouldn't let me buy online and pick it up at the store (says it's impossible). So it looks like I'm outta luck.

Anyway around this?

If you didn't already do it call the store and ask if they will accept a in store coupon from Staples, if the anwser is yes use the Staples $30 off $150 printable coupon.

Buy over the phone using a $30 phone order coupon. They'll deliver to your house. That's what I did. The manager was willing to take the $30 internet coupon but the cash register wouldn't allow a $30 discount for some reason. So I ordered over the phone and they brought the stuff to my house 2 days later. Some people that have done this said the delivery guy asked for the phone order coupon. In my case, they did not.

I tried that. Both CSR's over the phone said the HD is OOS in THEIR system. It doesn't matter if the HD is IN STOCK in the B&M.

OfficeMax.com and OfficeMax are 2 seperate entities.. That's why you can't order online and do a store pickup.. That's also why most managers will not accept online coupons...

Yes! Persistence does pay off. I went into B&M today with confidence and a printed 30off150 phone order coupon (THANKS TO HE WHO HOOKED ME), the difficult manager from yesterday was nowhere in sight. The sales rep was reluctant to give me the 30 off at first, but I used the exact argument I've been hearing on this board, "sales managers have been accepting them all over the west coast since the online and phone order are all out of stock of these drives" (I couldn't remember if OfficeMax was regional or national), and next thing you know, I'm walking out the door with the SpinX 50 CD-Rs and WD120GB 8MB SE Drive for a grand total of $132.00 (tax you know). I'm looking at $92 in rebates, so $40 total. Thanks AT Crew!

Thanks for the heads-up on the stock at the Highlands Ranch store. I scored one (SE w/ 8M cache) and picked-up a few of the FAR items. After getting the loot, I headed over to the CS counter and talked to the nice girl working there telling here I'd like to use the 30 of 150 online coupon I printed-out, since I couldn't get the drive online. She said OK, and that was that. Great deal, one of the best in quite awhile for me.
BTW, they had at least 2 left on the floor after I grabbed mine.

The form from the booklet for the $50 rebate to WD says you can mail in a copy of your receipt, but the girl that checked me out said that you need to send in the original. I saw someone else mention the same thing somewhere in this thread. So, can I send a copy or not?

I've never had a problem sending a copy. What are you supposed to keep for yourself then if you send in the original?

Just got back from my local (1 hour drive to Madison, WI) OM. Boy, what a pain it was trying to get this deal. There are 2 OM's in Madison and neither of them would accept the $30 off $150. It took me 5 minutes to just explain to them that the drives had a $20 instant rebate. They debated with me even after I showed them the printed off flier.

To make and excruciating long story short, I ended up getting the drive at Circuit City. I initially bought it at CC for $160 before tax because the sales rep would only match the price to what I would get it for at OM after the mail-in rebates (what a crock).

I then proceeded to go over to OM again, purchase a second drive for $140 before tax cause I thought I'd like a second one. I then got to thinking reasonably and decided to return the CC one. When I walked up to the courtesy desk to return it, the manager asked why I was returning it and I told him cause OM had it for less. He asked what they had it for, I said $110 after the instant rebate and coupon. He proceeded to match the price.

So after the CC mail-in rebates, the drive came to $10 plus tax on $110. I proceeded to return the OM drive.

I can get it with PM $159.99, but the problem is the rebate is the same at the BB. And I got the 120G HD from BB on Sunday already.

So, Can I do the $80 MIR for the BB and CC and the same time?

I believe you can, but what I do in situations like that is use different addresses for each rebate. So I use my home address for one and school for the other.

I believe you can, but what I do in situations like that is use different addresses for each rebate. So I use my home address for one and school for the other.

So I can't do the same rebate with different store?
