<FONT face=Verdana>anyone remember those belkin network cards for $1.00???

it took them 2 months to get them to me. (and 100's of other people too) That deal Wasn't bad for 20 bucks, but gamble with a hundred? This deal is all over the internet, and was on other sites way before Bens. The orders are probably up over 1000 by now. I think I'd rather throw a $100 dollar chip on the table in vegas, better odds.

Will Western Digital make out the rebate to the made-up company name? I was thinking this might be a problem when the rebate check is made out.

Also, do Small Businesses fall into the category of groups and/or organizations? The terms of the rebate state that rebates requested from either one of these groups will not be honored.
I think you would use your name when filling out the rebate form, and state this is a personal purchase if your Dell receipt looks like a business sale invoice.

Got this from Bensbargains. Can any one confirm this?

I just got off the phone with the Western Digital rebate representatives....

"Sir, have you already purchased the hard drive?"
"No, not yet."
"Well don't, because you won't get the rebate for it."

Right, because you always have sustained data throughput above 100MB/sec with a single IDE HD

What QIat said... What do you have to think about? The only drive with ata133 is maxtor man. THe next is going to be s-ata. You dont even get 100mb/sec with ata100. Dont even worry about it.

LOL!

Well I made printouts of my order and forgot to hit the SEND BUTTON. I realized it about 2 hours later and then submitted.
Showing not available also. This will prove to be interesting, how does a company normally handle a product's rebate offer if they can't ship int time
for the rebate to be valid?

Or is this just a practice that Dell will use to cover a mix up on the rebate offering on the drives?

How long does it take to calculate ~30 MB transfer < 100 MB data pipe ?

this deal is great, but it does make you wonder why they are running it. my guess is that sales are lackluster. instead of reducing retail, they will run specials to try to maintain a higher retail for a while, but look for the price of this to be racheted down fairly quickly over the next month or two.

I'm not sure how great the deal is given that not a single one of us got an actual rebate form, and now there is no trace of the rebate offer on the Dell website anymore...

What are they trying to pull? Is this like a reverse rebate scam, where they figure 40-50% won't complain and will pay full price for the item and not return it? What is the likelihood they plan to honor the orders already placed?

I had thought that WD was clearing inventory of their 3 x 40GB/platter = 120GB drives
(which should have about 8% lower performance than the new 2 x 60GB/platter = 120GB drives).

Sadly ....... I spoke to a Sr Rep in the Small BUsiness section a few minutes ago.

The deal is now DEAD ! It has been "pulled" by Dell.

Reason" Western has told Dell they will no longer honor the rebates. What the rebate "cut off" date is, I was not told. It's just that as of NOW, this is a DEAD deal.

There will be lots of other good ones ..... That's the Wonderful part of AnandTech.

I got a NASCAR race to go enjoy !

Have fun, Kiddies.

clearing inventory is the most likely case. the newer two platter unit should be cheaper to make, so we'll see price softness in the not too distant future.

So...if we ordered this thing before the 13th, we should still get the rebate...right? Isn't that false advertising or something, and what about the people who said that the rebate would be in the box that shipped.

edit: If not , what can we honestly do about it?

When I went to bed at 1:30am last night the rebate image was present. Now it's obviously not.

You think if I buy it today regardless of the rebate image not being present that I will be able to claim the rebate since the rebate preface before said it expired today 10/13/2002?
