No need to cancel on the OEM until Dell falls through on making good... why does everybody here have a hard-on to bash those that bought OEM... it comes down to either cancelling the order if there is no rebate or effort for a rebate made on Dell's part, or Dell instant rebates the $100... only loss is phone time....

I had better get my 100 bucks, otherwise dell is gonna eat my 200 dollar drive! I'll just call my cc company and explain the situation to get my money back! They are usually pretty good about it!

PM or email me for the .pdf's that show the retail, the oem, and the rebate description

And then I have this from a Dell Business CSR. She told me that part # below had the rebate and the 3 year warranty:

Manufacturer Part# WD1200JB
Dell Part# A0009295

When I had this part number selected as my order:

Manufacturer Part# WD1200JBRTL
Dell Part# A0060210

Now, I know I was right, but this rep made it clear that Dell says that the other part number is also right.

She also sent me the Rebate Form to my email as a .pdf. She was one of 4 Dell CSR's who said that the generic rebate form is all they use and is the correct one.

I calle later and a CSR Supervisor assured me that they wil simply give a $100 credit....since many of te drives are showing that they would arrive after the rebate postmark period, and ther were already signs of problems with the rebate.

Dell made a mess of this promo, but the .pdf's clearly show that both drives had a $100 Rebate , and the rebate info page slerly states the rebate specifics.

The CSR said the Manufacturer Part# WD1200JB Dell Part# A0009295 has the rebate.

The CSR superviosr clearly stated that I would get a $100 credit instead of the rebate.

So, don't worry, I think that Dell will fix this tomorrow.

Bah, I don't think it's worth the risk anymore. What a shame.
To me when something expires on the 13th that means it's good until the clock strikes midnight on the evening of the 13th (especially with an online business). Besides, the original link to Ben's Bargain Center clearly shows 10/08 through and including 10/13. The worst that can happen is that you don't get the $100 rebate and even then it's not a horrendous deal, just not a good deal. Anyway, I think they will come through with the rebates or honor returns if they don't. Just my feeling reading this thread. Never bought from Dell.

I am not worried one bit. Dell will honor their deals. They arnt compusa or some other lame store. Ive ordered many things from them. They always have nice csr's. They have a good reputation, they wouldnt dare ruin it with this many orders on the line.

Ohhh spanky007, im catching up to your posts!......so close..

It already did.

Unofficially earlier today when the rebate link was pulled.
Officially three minutes ago.

Should be interesting to see what Dell does on this. Like others, I am sure they will make good on it, but they may do like other companies that have had this happen and only honor one at the rebated price. Of course, that may not even be the case since this is not (or at least does not appear to be) a pricing error, just stupidity by them including the rebate on the OEM page.

They could also just offer to pay return shipping on the OEM drives (which would be the smarter move) since it would be cheaper for them than making good on a $100 (erroneous) rebate.

We will find out tomorrow what they will do (I hope).

as long as I get the rebate for my retail version I'll be a happy camper, and I hope it works out for you oem peeps.

Thanks for posting this deal though! After having my 75gxp and 60gxp fail on me twice I decided to just ditch them and get something new. You made my decision very easy as I was looking at one of these hardrives anyway.

Gracias.

Brian.

Seems to me that Dell made a mistake in showing the rebate for the OEM drive. As far as I'm concerned, it's enough for them to write you a note apologizing for the error, and asking if you still want the OEM drive for full price or want to change order to the retail drive or cancel order completely. You guys saw the requirements for a retail drive clearly on the rebate terms page and you know darn well rebates never apply to OEM stuff (you don't even get a package with a UPC), yet you still insisted on ordering the OEM drive to save a few bucks.

I ordered the OEM by mistake because it was the first one to show up when I searched for "120 gb"...but then when I read the Terms and Conditions for the rebate, I cancelled my order and went with the retail drive instead.

I mean, retail does have a manuals, cables, drivers/apps disk, and super-funka-licious styrofoam packaging!
