Even though they only have a rebate for the non-Special Edition model (WD1200BBRTL) right now, they have to come up with something. They clearly were advertising the Special Edition model (WD1200JBRTL) as having a $100-manufacturer's rebate, and numerous ppl. on this thread have stated they saved the page showing this, so we have proof of the screw-up.

They'll either have to come up with something equivalent or have thousands of canceled orders to deal with.

I already emailed a reply to the rebate they sent me and explained of the screw-up. I'm still waiting for a response.

so, the rebate is not wrong. you people should be worrying about other things, like peace in the middle east.

There's no mention of WD1200BBRTL or WD1200JBRTL in my Order Acknowledgement/Confirmation emails. This is the drive that I ordered and it clearly says JBRTL on there

i highly doubt that a oem drive would be eligible for a rebate, never heard of it. the rep that i talked to said that it was not valif and i cancelled my order.

OMG, this is straight up bullcrap!!! :| I called up to cancel the order and they said it's already shipped. Then I tried to explain to this ditz on the other end that it's THEIR fault b/c they posted the wrong rebate on the site meaning that I wouldn't be able to get the $100. Then she tries to make it out like it's MY fault that I ordered the wrong drive!!!:| Then she said that they wouldn't do a $100 credit either. I have to accept the package, then call back to get an RMA for it, THEN they would credit me back.

This is one big mess. Never will I deal with Dell again.

if anyone wants the rebate or wants to host it, pm me.

This is the least coherant post here, So which rebate do you have? The JB one or the BB one? So WD wont honor the JB drive huh....

Hold on guys, the rebate form says WD1200BBRTL, but the one we got is the 8MB Cache one, whose number should be JBRTL NOT BBRTL.
So, is the rebate form valid for us?

Returns are too much of a hassle.

Also, the rebate states that it is for WD1200BBRTL, not the JBRTL most of us ordered, and will most likely not be honored by WD. I'm gonna wait it out for a little while longer before I cancel. :confused

You need to mail in the original capacity label that as far as I can see has no partnumber on it.

I couldn't even cancel b/c my Retail drive has already been shipped out via UPS and I already have a tracking #

I kept on asking her to let me speak to someone "higher up" but she kept being a PITA:disgust:

Ripped from FW:

Curious, how do you figure that? Besides the fact that "Special Edition 8Mb Version" is printed on the capacity label, the 8MB special edition version has a silver capacity label with yellow lettering and the standard 2MB edition is black with yellow lettering.

The WD capacity label (which contains the UPC) has the model number on it. I know, b/c I'm looking at a capacity label right now that I scanned to keep records for another rebate I sent off.

thawolfman,

There are some things that still supersede terms of service notices, despite online companies' apparent indifference to consumer rights--they're called laws.

If you don't receive exactly what you ordered (including the rebate), your contract with them is void. In that case call them and tell them to come pick it up--make sure that you let them know you will be in Sunday between 2:00 and 3:00 for them to do so. If they balk, tell them you will contest it with your CC company--if they still balk, contest it, it's easy--I've done it many times.

Incidentally, I believe the industry term for "picking it up" is a "call-take." They arrange this with the shipper who will pick up the package and reverse the charges.

LOL!
While it is true there are laws against deceptive advetising, you show me a CC company that will accept a CC dispute on the basis of a rebate advertised with a product was not paid.
