I just got off the phone with Dell after being on hold 20 minutes (you guys must all be calling in ). The CSR said it was Western Digital that screwed up (provided a broken link to Dell) and assured me that they told Dell that this WD1200BBRTL rebate would be honored for the WD1200JBRTL drive. I asked if I could get a confirmation on this by email but he said all they could do is send me another rebate and if anything changes from WD, I would be notified by email. I'm going to take my chances and try the rebate. The CSR said they've already received 1000+ calls on this and that they've been talking with WD all day about this. It sounds like WD is going to eat the $100 for their screw up.

Just got off the phone again with Dell. The rep told me that after talking with WD, they would accept the WD1200BBRTL rebate for the WD1200JBRTL model. Whether or not he's lying or doesn't know what he's talking about, I don't know.

Like the above posts, I'll wait and see what happens

Here's an option for them...ship everyone the RETAIL version instead of eating the $100 mistake. $15 loss vs $100 loss...hmmmmm.

as of right now, there are no rebates for either the retail or oem version they sold.

the retail rebate is for the 2mb version, not the 8mb version. THAT is the problem.

Woot!
Don't give up hope people!! I just contacted dell and talked to a CSR who stated the following will occur:
1. Once the drive arrives to you give them a call a 1/800/www/dell!
2. They will give you a $100 credit!

I would call right now and talk to a CSR. I clearly explained the situation to her. I emphasized that the drive model on the rebate is NOT the one that I purchased. I explained the difference between a BB and JB model. She next told me that she will document this problem. Next, she said that once I receive the drive to give them a call and they will credit me the funds!! Oh yeah baby!
Here is the number I called: 1-800-999-3355. The lady who I spoke to is Peggy and here extension is: 68938. Very nice and helpful.

Just remember kids, be nice! Don?t threaten. Explain the facts and hope for a nice person. I would suggest calling back until you achieve the 100 credit.

Here's a few numbers of Dell support people that are higher up on the customer support team that you may want to check with on this rebate situation. So far all the low level CS people don't seem to have a clue as to what they are doing...

I don't know if this is just me but I called an hour ago and I told the CSR guy about the $100 credit that you all are talking about just to confirm. Surprisingly he said if there are CSRs saying that, they aren't supposed to say that or give the $100 credit. Then he told me that the only solution was to talk to Western Digital. I really hope you guys are right

Of course, collecting on the rebate and getting $100 from Dell would be fraud, the practice of which is highly frowned upon here. Rightfully so, IMHO.

That's why they have things like credit cards. They can track those numbers.

I just got off the phone with another CSR. They say that they are going to honor the rebate. They said that they needed final confirmation which would be handed down in about 50 minutes.

What are the chances that we spoke to the same CSR? Mine was named Corey. If it wasn't the same CSR, then we might be on to something. If they are starting to give all the CSRs a standard mesage like this, then Dell and WD might be standing behind their statement on accepting the rebate.

Also what phone number are people calling? Dell has so many different customer service numbers and if some of us are calling different numbers, it might explain the conflicting statements we have been seeing. I called 1-877-483-3355 option 1 ext: 61843.

The person I talked to was a female, don't know what her name was.

I call the CSR just 5 minutes ago. He told me that dell is dealing with WD about the rebate. He told me WD pulled out the rebate form. He said I can check back in a few hours later or tomorrow morning.... Are we going to get the rebate?

Amazing the amount of "he said" "she said" going on in here.

Kind of makes you wonder if anyone at Dell knows the truth...

LMAO!

that typo is hilarious! either someone made up a fake rebate form or someone at WD is scrambling to find a solution to this mess. as pathetic as this whole mess is, it is at the same time hilariously funny.
