i would say either that one person is a fluke or a mistake, and dell is shipping the drives out in order that your order was placed.
i doubt dell would place any preference on location or 'price paid'.

there is so much idle speculation and bad info here in this thread it's outrageous.


I ordered mine on the 11th and received it on the 16th.

My brother ordered one on the 12th at about 4:30 PM, and according to ups, his will be delivered tomorrow.

We both live in Michigan.

I'm still waiting for my drive too.... Mebbe I fell through the cracks. Gonna see what dell says tomorrow.

i ordered on the 11th @ about 6:20pm PDT. i'm in southern california (los angeles area). according to ups it was shipped on the 24th from memphis, tn, and will arrive on the 31st. i ordered the retail drive. i also got the "12/31 delay" phone call and told them i still wanted it. hope you folks get your drives soon! good luck to you.

This is not true. The rebate form says Young America. Rebateshq=Pargo (usually McAllen or Miami)

Unfortunately Young America doesn't seem to have a web site for tracking info like Express or Parago.

Ordered mine on 10/12/2002 and mine STILL shows as inproduction... Heck I ordered it as an upgrade for a system I just purchased from them and still no joy...

it was physically shipped on friday and still no charge, it would be extra sweet to get paid $100 for this drive. I am gonna wait till tomorrow night to get excited though

I'm sorry.. but I dont see that as being greedy. If he needed 3 drives, thats cool. It's not going to keep you and me from getting ours.
you're telling me it has nothing to do with the reason that the shipping dates are post poned as much as they are? i guess you're right, if he needed 3 so be it. i just don't like it when people miss out on deals because others buy a bunch just to ebay it or sell eslewhere.

FWIW, I have no intention of selling these on eBay and I only want 2 drives. I ordered an OEM one before I realized that the rebate wasn't going to apply (this was back on 10/11). I asked the CSR to cancel it but I can't tell from the Order Status page if that actually happened or not. Kinda looks like it didn't. If it actually ships, I'm just gonna refuse delivery.

BTW, this is my first order through Dell. I am not one of these people who feel like a business has to honor every price mistake or typo on their web site. I don't feel entitled to anything other than common courtesy and common sense. I certainly have no interest in contacting the BBB just because my drive is going to ship late or any of that crap. Usually I'm of the mind that if you don't want to wait, just cancel your order. But I'm finding out that's not so easy to do with Dell. I called to cancel one of my orders a week ago and like I said above, according to the order status page, it's still "in production". I called this morning to make sure it was going to cancel. I called the number and extension that was included in the "your order is being delayed" e-mail (the one it specifically states is to be called if you want to cancel). I was on hold for 25 minutes. After getting a real person, I was told I needed to talk to someone else, so I got transferred. Fine. The hold time for the new person didn't turn out to be too long. I gave the CSR my order number and was told that she couldn't cancel my order. "Um...why not?"...I wondered aloud? Well, because the only person who can cancel my order is the person who I placed the order for me (in this case, that's someone named Jolene). Not only have I never encountered this policy with any other company, I have never even talked to anyone named Jolene in the first place. I placed my order online. So after being on the phone for half an hour, I still can't cancel the order I placed. Combined with the two month delay, I think that's something to complain about. Maybe not to the BBB, but I don't mind sharing my experiences with people here. And I'll certainly be wary of ever using Dell again.

Ditto. Not to mention that it's skirting fraud when the rebate clearly states the limitation of "one per customer/name/address".

Am I the only person who did NOT get a delayed to 12/31 email? I ordered one of each drive (I originally ordered OEM, but then ordered retail when it looked like you wouldn't get the $100 with OEM, I was intending to cancel the OEM drive, however, now I'll just wait and see what ships first) One shows as should be sent 11-25, the other says attempting to complete, both show as in production.

anybody know what should i do next?
i already called a customer hotline at dell and he said he gonna send an e-mail with attachement of WD capacity label. anybody got the same thing like me?

Hi everyone, I bought the retail version of the drive and expect it today. I noticed Dell posted an extended rebate form here. That clears up my only problem with the order. I placed my order on 10/12/2002 and received the December ship estimate but waited a few days and called and they gave me a ship date. Then called again and got a TRACKING NUMBER. I'm lookin forward to moving off this good o'le Quantum Fireball 20gb.

I got my drive today and they deducted the 100 off. So ive got a nice drive for 80 bucks or so.
BTW, the order page shows that i paid 185 for it but my credit card statement shows only 83 was charged.
I just got the invoice in the mail too. They deducted the full 100 off.
