I got my retail drive today. Lets see if I can provide the details some have been asking for.

Order placed 10/11/02 7:50:48 PM
Order shipped 10/24/02 (actually was billed that date, did not go out till 10/25/02)
I live in Arkansas, and the drive was shipped from Memphis, TN, so the ground shipping took one business day.

Thanks again for this great deal.

Despite many worries by everyone on this deal, it looks like it was for real. Now, if Western Digital will come through with the rebate, I will be a truly happy man.

Well, I am happy regardless, this will just increase it.

I hope that the rest of you that are still waiting get your drives soon!

What is the consensus on the 3-year OEM warranty advertised with this drive? Will it be honored?

Is it still too late to jump on this? I'm a bit confused. The rebate says that "requests must be postmarked 30 days within shipment date." But it also says that it's valid between 10/8 - 10/13. Does the invoice show the order date or the ship date or both? Bottomline: Is it still too late?

you are too late. this deal was a while back. the reason people are bumping it because they start to receive the drive. I haven't receive my yet. ordered on the 11.

Well, I think I got the shaft.

Ordered on the 12th and watched the status page - it kept saying 'in process' or something to that effect. Then suddenly it said 'cancelled'.
WTF !! Called and finally got thru to some guy whos name I wasn't smart enough to ask for. Turns out an AT&T gift card I had tried to use wouldn't go thru so instead of calling or emailing they just cancelled the order. Explained to the doofus that I needed the order reinstated and it must be for the original date of 10/12. No problem he says. So what about the gift card not working. No problem he says. I checked a couple days later and the new order shows up with the date that I made the call and it too says 'in process'!! Called again and this time I was told that the order could not be reinstated to the original date and that the new order had just been cancelled for the same reason - the gift card did not go thru. I have yet to receive the first email or phone call about problems with my order. Somewhat PO'd !!

called CS to find out my order status. Ordered on the 10/12 drive haven't ship yet. CS said the drive is backordered on till 11/20. So I think I'll be getting mines be4 x'mas. Now that might be a good present from santa dell.

Also, the rebate states that it is for WD1200BBRTL, not the JBRTL most of us ordered, and will most likely not be honored by WD. I'm gonna wait it out for a little while longer before I cancel. :confused

From the latest rebate:

Purchase a Western Digital 120GB Special Edition 7200 RPM retail drive (WD1200JBRTL) from Dell.com....blah blah

I called dell again for the second time. about my order are come only the drive itself and didn't come with anything.
now the customer services said that I need to take the barcode that located in the harddrive. Does anybody do this?
is it gonna void the warranty?
and is it work or this guy just make up some excuse?

Print it now before it disappears!

Apparently they have now arranged for a WD rebate instead of an instant credit for OEM drive purchasers.

Well, my drives STILL show InProduction status, here is the order time:

Order detail - order placed 10/12/02 12:18:43 AM

So it was close to the 11th, and it actually still was the 11th West Coast when I ordered. My wife's order placed about 5 minutes later since I had to send her the URL upstairs to her computer is showing InProduction too, so I wonder how the drives are shipping to some people.

I got my drive! Yay! It works so well, I just need my rebate now. Do I print out my e-mail receipt? The packing slip doesn't have the dates 10-8 or 10-13 on it, just the ship date.

No, you simply attempted to dig a hole for them and bury them alive with your statements of just how horribly-awful of a company they are. My apologies for paraphrasing what you said in order to make my own point.

I would like to see an assessment of the repeated business failures and missteps they committed against their customers. I'm sure that you have a list, please forward it to me.

You attacked Dell's integrity and, in your words, "business practices". Not only has Dell gone beyond their responsibilities by giving rebates to OEM purchasers, they have worked hard to channeled drives to their customers...not weeks...but months before their "projected" ship dates. Unbeknownst to some people who have no relationship or dealings with the wholesale and retail chains, sometimes things are hazy or don't work out the way as the dealers expect, especially when hit by the "Anandtech Effect". The ones who make good on both promises AND mistakes are the ones who get the repeat business. But you want immediate answers, you need instant gratification, and apparently a well-established and highly-respected company that cannot give you exactly what you desire at the moment you demand it is slammed...even after the product is shipping. And that's why I said you need to shop somewhere else.

Actually, it was two other board members who "went off" on each other. I tried to throw in some humor which, just as the "800th post"...one guy didn't get it, even after it was explained to him in detail.
