The UPS tracking information (as Dell has set it up) is somewhat misleading.
Dell's website shows that this harddrive was "shipped" on 10/31/02 and would be delivered on 11/01/02 - when in reality the drive wasn't shipped until November 1st, when the tracking data is pulled-up on the UPS website:
Nov 4, 2002
- 10:31 A.M. ANYTOWN, ANYSTATE, US DELIVERY
- 7:00 A.M. ANYTOWN, ANYSTATE, US OUT FOR DELIVERY
- 5:18 A.M. ANYTOWN, ANYSTATE, US ARRIVAL SCAN
Nov 2, 2002
- 3:34 A.M. MEMPHIS, TN, US DEPARTURE SCAN
Nov 1, 2002
- 7:58 P.M. MEMPHIS, TN, US ORIGIN SCAN
Oct 31, 2002
- 9:36 A.M. US BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED
How is this possible? Dell is listing as the "shipping date", that date at which it makes available the shipping document it electronically sends to United Parcel Service (UPS), of a pending shipment. It is *NOT* a shipping date (unless you consider electronically "sending" the shipping information to UPS as "shipping"). The ORIGIN SCAN is the date the item is received and scanned by UPS into the package-tracking database. My credit card was also "billed" the day the harddrive actually shipped - 01 Nov 02.
