I called today, and spoke with them briefly. Didn't ask about the rebate applying to the OEM drive, but I did ask about the November ship date. I told them I couldn't wait, and he told me to cancel the order and place a new order for the retail version. Then he transferred me to a number that said "please call back during normal business hours.

So I jumped on just now to order the retail version, and guess what? The confirmation comes back with Nov. 25th on it too.

Boooooooo!

OK - I posted this on another board - the empeg forums if anyone here knows what an empeg is... anyways -

1 gent says he has talked with customer service, and was told the rebate applied to both, just like it showed on their original site.

2nd, another had this e-mail cut and pasted up:

***********************************

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care

I apologize for any inconvenience this matter may have caused.

Please be advised that currently the site is temporarily unavailable; please contact our customer service at:

800-624-9897 to request the copy of rebate form to be faxed

Please note that as per our website $100 rebate is applicable for both items no. A0009295 (WD1200JB) and A0060210 (WD1200JBRTL) and this is a retail version.

I hope that is true - however I still have two drives on order, one of each, both showing November ship dates. Rumor is they are closed Monday for Columbus day as well. Bastards, I guess I'll be in limbo for a while.

Also keep in mind I trust both people who made these posts, but - I take no accountability for them!

Question on this deal,
I ordered up a 120 retail version late last night (friday night early sat morning), and I got the email saying

We are currently reviewing the order information you provided (brief summary of my order)

then about an hour later I got another dell email saying

Your order has been placed and will go into production upon authorization of your method of payment. Please review and save this e-mail, as it will aid you in tracking your order(s).

Ok cool, all sounds as if it is on track, yet since that 2nd email confirming the order was placed and they will be confirming payment etc at about 3 am (now 6pm Saturday) I haven't actually gotten an email that states the order is COMPLETE.

Reason I am curious is because the rebate page states purchase between 10-8 and 10-13, I technically ordered this on 10-11, however if Dell takes it's time on processing my payment and or completing the order could I be pushed out of eligability due to order processing time? In other words could they process this on Tuesday and then my reciept shows I ordered it on 10-15 vs 10-11 (voiding my rebate eligability) that is if the drive even comes in time to fill out and return the rebate.

I checked via my order # in Order Status and it just says

IN PRODUCTION

I don't mind if it comes in a week or two just so I can get the rebate filled out and returned in time, BUT I am curious about what date Dell will use on my actual PURCHASE since I haven't actually gotten a INVOICE type email with the date it was processed (from what I see its in the works of BEING processed). Just curious if anyone has experience with Dell on this issue, and if anyone has gotten the actual order is COMPLETE type email and if so how long did it take to get that email after the 2nd email that said

Your order has been placed and will go into production upon authorization of your method of payment. Please review and save this e-mail, as it will aid you in tracking your order(s).

What if you don't have a fax machine, can you ask them to email the rebate form?

Also, how come when I go into Order Status on Dell, I found nothing at all, when I did receive a confirmation from Dell?

Scroll down to "order detail" (the blue bar on the "order confirmation" email that dell sends--usually the second email you get) and it has your order date . . . so it doesn't matter when it ships, you have the order date as the day you order it.

Thanks Tarobap, hopefully this drive comes within the next two weeks or so and I can complete the rebate portion within the time limits... ( I know online or in the box or both the rebate will appear eventually)...

go to dell small business get a 120gb at $186.
go to dell home and home office get a 120gb at $175.

then update the qty. of the 120gb No from 1 to 0.

I get the harddrive at 175 - 26 - (100 rebate if from "Buy a Western Digital 120 GB 7200 rpm retail packaged hard drive from Dell.com and receive a $100 rebate via mail from Western Digital" ) = 49 + tax. best price.

To all that doubt that the OEM has a 3 year warranty - have you not read WD's warranty policy lately?? Only the 8MB cache drives (regardless of OEM or Retail) have 3 years. The ONLY way it would be 30 days is if it were the Dell-branded version, which it is not.... Stop by Newegg and see what the warranty is on an OEM 120JBB... nuff said

but keep in mind, this is a rare case where the oem warranty is the same as retail. in one of my earlier posts, i was just referring to the general cases of retail vs oem.

The 2MB cache drives (both OEM and Retail) manufactured before October 1st still have 3 years, even if they haven't been sold yet.

woowolf,

I cant see how you can get the $100 WD rebate if you're getting
the DELL brand drive using the method.

Maybe you can enlighten us some more.

This is the same drive but the serial/model # is not the same as the one that's getting the REBATE. and this drive does not say you can get a $100 REbate.

AM i wrong about this?

Does Dell require proof of business? Any ideas guys? I made up a business, although I do kind of own my own business as a consultant. It's not really an organized business hehe.

please tell me if you have any info on this.

If my rebate gets denied that would suck.

I ordered through the Small Business section of Dell.com to get the 15% discount. For the company name, I just made up a name (something like "Computer Store.") Will Western Digital make out the rebate to the made-up company name? I was thinking this might be a problem when the rebate check is made out.

Also, do Small Businesses fall into the category of groups and/or organizations? The terms of the rebate state that rebates requested from either one of these groups will not be honored.

Below is the rebate details with the particular section highlighted:

WESTERN DIGITAL

$100 rebate on Western Digital hard drive

DESCRIPTION
"Buy a Western Digital 120 GB 7200 rpm retail packaged hard drive from Dell.com and receive a $100 rebate via mail from Western Digital"

TERMS
Purchase a Western Digital 120 GB 7200 rpm retail packaged hard drive from Dell.com between 10/8/02 and 10/13/02 to be eligible for a $100 rebate. To avail of the rebate, submit the completed WD rebate request form along with the original WD capacity label from the product package and a copy of your purchase receipt. All requests must be postmarked within 30 days from the date of purchase. Requests from groups, post office boxes or organizations will not be honored. Rebate checks are void if not cashed within 90 days of issuance and cannot be reissued. Offer is limited to one rebate per customer/name/address. Fraudulent submission of multiple requests could result in federal prosecution. Offer good only in the U.S. and Canada. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law.
