Hey Mikey ! - I don't suppose the Dell rep said how "they" plan to handle (ie. honor) the $100 rebate for drives they've already sold, did s/he ? ? ? ?

If Dell offer these hdds based on a "pending" rebate promotion with WD, that WD decided not to honor, Dell is screwed ! ! ! ! That would be a major marketing f-up on their part....

Sadly ....... I spoke to a Sr Rep in the Small BUsiness section a few minutes ago.

The deal is now DEAD ! It has been "pulled" by Dell.

Reason" Western has told Dell they will no longer honor the rebates. What the rebate "cut off" date is, I was not told. It's just that as of NOW, this is a DEAD deal....

Perhaps the rebate link being withdrawn is simply due to the expiration of the offer (which was to expire today...)

This DEAL IS DEAD. NO REBATES!

Let's not panic yet--I'll wait and talk to Dell about this on Tuesday. I assume that they'll have to honor it for those of us who already purchased--they can't just post it, then decide not to honor it. Or maybe they will decide that, but we've got screen shots to prove it existed.

I would say that the deal is dead going forward, though. I wouldn't order today and expect to get the rebate.

I doubt dell would not honer the rebate or savings.. they are pretty reliable, but you never know, if they got 5,000 orders from anandtech, then they might have the money to issue out $500,000 in hard drive savings

It's not Dell's rebate, it's WD's. Nonetheless, it was clearly posted on Dell's site when we purchased, so we do have recourse if they try and do anything shady. I doubt that this will be the case anyway...

Bottom line for me: no rebate, no sale. I was planning on buying a new hdd anyway, but I was certainly not going to spend $177 on one. Not with all the "cheap-after-rebate/coupon/PM" dealies flying around of late. For $77 delivered, it's a deal. For $177 delivered, it's a cancellation. :disgust:

I guess we'll see on Tuesday (unless Dell can be reached today or tomorrow).

Do you think it will be too late to cancel it on Monday? In its policy, it says that all return are 15% restocking fees.

It was pretty darn clear on their website about the rebate. If they dont honor it then this definitely seems like fraud to me.

I don't know what you guys are talking about...

If you go to page 2, you should clearly see an ATer post a link to the rebate... Bensbargains.net is hosting it, not Dell... I spoke with a few people over at Dell and they will honor this for sure as long as it's a retail drive.

whoever writes for BB must be an idiot. you dont count rebates in a "shipped" price. :disgust:

That was not the actual rebate itself on bensbargain, it's actually a capture of the terms of rebate from Dell.

As of 10/12 at 10 PM Pacific time, the $100 rebate was still showing on the Dell Web site for the retail drive.

Talking to Dell right now... A rep is telling me the link to the rebate is down. Yeah he knew exactly what I was talking about, so I wouldn't worry about it...

Hrmm. If it 'expires' today - does that mean that its good until the end of the day - or, yesterday was my last chance to order - and I missed it?
Bah, I don't think it's worth the risk anymore. What a shame.

I'm glad we got confirmation from a Dell rep that the link is down. but we had already surmised that part. They did more than just remove or deaden a link, though--they edited all 4 item pages to remove all reference to the rebate, including the link.

Did he happen to say anything else--perhaps something more...reassuring? Such as "WD will definitely be honoring the rebate"?

Plus the fact that leadtime on the drives are now way past the 30 day time window that rebate forms must be submitted. It would be irresponsable for Dell not to pull the rebate since they're out of inventory and obviously can't honor the rebate.

Now if Dell is trying to renege on past purchasers of this drive, that purchased while the rebate was promoted, they're going to in for a massive fight.

"Rebates Forms:
Rebate forms are only available at the retailer where the drive is purchased." -- from the WD site.

Some people will start receiving these Thursday & Friday (those w/expedited delivery). Hopefully the rebate coupon is included in the packaging....

probably sooner. im sure some people live near ingram micro's distro centers. It usually only takes 1 or 2 days ground for those people.

Yeah I asummed that much myself, but I thought it was nice to get some sort of reasurance.

I spoke to a sales rep, he basically just said that he knows what deal I'm talking about (mentioned this site hehe) and is aware of the problem. He said that we should check up on the site, the rebate should be posted there shortly.

If it doesn't post, fine with me either way. I can call Dell and I always settle things like this, so I'm not worried.

Proof

It's just a screen shot of the rebate ad and the dell page for the HD w/ the advertisement for the rebate at the bottom.

i dont understand the fuss. the deal was only until 10/13 so thats why there is no rebate link anymore, and many people have posted that the CSR said the rebate would be in the box when it comes, and even if it werent then dell has to post it at some time. The only reason you should be worried is if u bought the OEM version. In which case that 14 bucks (or whatever it is) you saved may turn out to be a $100 mistake.
