it's a perfect timing to get a new one. My IBM Desktar 7200rpm 30Gb gave up several days ago. I heard clicking sound from the HDD and that was it. anyone with deskstar experience this?

by the way, i cant find the $25 off $100. please pm me with link

Thanks !

Dude, go to IBM's site and run their diagnostics. Maybe it's still under warranty? =] I haven't done it personally, but the IBM RMA process looks painful compared to Maxtor's. Worth a shot if you have time.

I assure you that you're not the first person to have an IBM DeathStar fail on you; the 75GXP models are rather beyond notorious. Usually they click for a while before going completely dead. You should definitely go through the IBM RMA process if it's still under warranty (3 year warranty probably) if for no other reason than to punish IBM for selling those beasts.

As for the deal, it sounds great! Thanks!

Don't know if this is common knowledge, but WD has updated the warranty policy on their Caviar HDs. Effective 10/1 only 'SE' drives will have a 3-year warranty. All other drives will have just a 1-year warranty unless specifed differently on Retail Box. Just double check the box to make sure it has a 3-year warranty before checking out. For more details go here:

Both of the phone rebates expire on 10/5 making them ineligible for the 10/6 ad for the WD hard drive.
We must find something else free AR.

The new update rebate page is now available, including both phone rebates.

BTY : The Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM (2MB buffer) HD will have a $45 rebate on it starting Oct. 13, so that deal will be : $129.99 - $45 MIR - $25 off $100 OfficeMax coupon = $59.99. It might be even less if there's also a Instant rebate.
It looks like Western Digital is trying to get rid of all their 2MB buffer HDs.

Just got in on this one.
Had to call and talk to a CSR as it shows up as "This product is currently unavailable." when you try to put it in your basket.

My deal:
WD 60gb HD $79.99
HP PSC750 All-in-one printer $199.98
WD MIR -$20.00
HP MIR -$50.00
$50 off $250 -$50.00
Tax $12.65
-------------------
Total $172.62

Not too shabby IMO.

BTW the HP rebate is only good if you purchased a system and CPU bundle in the last 3 months...which I did.
I bought an HP desktop bundle sporting an XP2000, 256mb DDR, 40gb HD, 17in monitor, keyboard and Optical mouse for $324 delivered to my door.

Man I love Staples.

But, can we use the $25 off of $100 over the phone?

As soon as it turned Midnight, adding the drive to cart responded with "Product 20076917 available in retail stores only."

They saw us coming.

Can't order thru site. Can't get thru by phone. "Leave you name and number and we will get back to you..."

Maybe they only a handful of the drive.

All right, this may be premature but at 9pm I had no problem seeing this drive on-line. Suddenly, it is no longer available. I suppose I should hold off on getting bent out of shape until tomorrow, but it smacks of Office Max being dorks.

Just had to vent.

Some how I think this deal was DOA before it even got started. Suddenly the drive disappeared from the website right before midnight, then can't get thru on the phone, except for the message about leaving name and number, so THEY could return your call. Never heard of such thing.

Looks like the way to get one is to pick it up at the B&S. If the B&S would accept the coupon...

Will pass on this one.

Finally got a phone order in after being on hold for about 2 hours. That "do-do-de-do-do" phone music is going to be in my dreams i'm afraid after hearing it a thousand times.

Yeah you can no longer order it online but I just stood on hold for 15 minutes and was able to do a phone order. I got the harddrive, caller id phone, jewel cases, tool kit, and paper clips for a total of alittle over 100.00. She said the toolkit was being ordered from the Manf. but it had the same item code so I can use the rebate? Either way I was able to get the harddrive instock on the phone. She did get confused on the 25 off 100 deal though. it was a URL and extremely long so I couldnt repeat it to her on the phone. She just put me on hold and came back saying it was fine and I got the 25 off. Thanks for the great deal!

I bought into this one... the first csr (after a 60 minute hold) told me the HD was out of stock at my distribution center, so I'd have to wait and order later... we went at it about the online $25 off $100 coupon and ended up at I could buy it a week later, after the rebate expired. I told her that was fine, I'd wait two weeks and the $20 off WD rebate would apply again (because it will ) and she thanked me. I called back immediately, and after another hour, talked to a different csr, and the order was taken in about three minutes... Charged $87.12... -30 in rebates that's 57.12, but I bought a few things I needed that didn't have rebates

All right, I guess I b!tched too soon.

Called this morning, CSR (Jen) answered right away. She had already been through a couple of us, so I had no trouble getting the drive or applying the coupon. ("I have a $25 off $100 coupon", "So does everyone else", she laughed).

She also confessed that the Guys in Suits had pulled it from the web site because the knew they were going to get hammered.

Got the drive, a NIC, tool kit, and CDR cases for $75.27 after coupon. -20 -5 -7 -3 in rebates and I'm out for $40. Not too bad.

>>>Oh yeah- they were down to 7 drives from my shipping area when I called. Portland OR.

Just got in on this deal. Although the csr did accept the $25 off $100 coupon, she "informed" me that from now on, the internet coupons can only be used for internet orders.:Q

Let's see what happens next time they have a deal like this & remove it from the web site. Bet they'll have so many po'd customers, they will end up accepting them anyway, just like today!

I just called officemax.com 1800-283-7674 (sherry) and they said that they donn't have the harddrive in stock!
It will be backordered if I insist to order from the phone. should i go for it?

The OM B&M in my area has it, BUT I won't be able to apply the $25 off $100 coupon!

Please advise anyone! Am I just too late?

Out the door $81.50 w/Phone, Blasted Air, Toolkit and Pencil after $25.00 coupon (I had to give the whole URL!!!). $35 AR. CSR told me that the drive is on B/O with no guarantee that the drive will arrive before the rebate expires. I ordered it thinking that a $55.00 HHD is fine. I have a delivery date of Tuesday! Hmm...

Particulars found elsewhere.

I called 4 times. Once late last nigh, 60 minutes on hold, hung up
3 times this morning, took 3 calls to 3 different CSR's just to get one to take the 25 dollar off coupon. Plus the drive is backordered, but I said order it up anyways.

I just ordered the HD with the tool kit, ID phone, CDR cases and paper clips. Used the $25 off phone order coupon code (A-????) without any problem.
The HD was still in stock in the L. A. area as of 9:20 AM pst.

if you don't receive the HD this
week call up and ask the CS to send you a copy of your order, then you can use that as your rebate receipt.

Thanks MysticMan1 for the final bit of advice. I asked a similar question to the CSR about receiving delivery after the rebate period ended. She replied that the order dated has no bearing on the rebate, and only the shipping date counted! She either didn't know or...

I hate to think that there is deception going on here. Would you lie for your employer? Or create obvious deceptions? Others have tried to order without success due to "misinformed CSR's". OD gives me the same runaround. Only Staples is headsup so far.
