It does say JB online. I'm going to print this and then take the 2mb cache BB drive back to my Officemax B&M and tell them that I want to exchange it for the JB drive since it is the same price.

Ordered $262.00 worth of stuff over the phone....they let me use a $50 off coupon.

But, now the first problem is that they didnt' include extra copies of my receipt as I requested. But, I called them today and they're sending them.

The 2nd issue was more difficult. I asked them on the phone if the HD was the 8MegCache version, and the CSR said yes. When it arrived, it wasn't. So, I called up my local O&M and asked them if they were subbing the 8Meg for the 2Meg yet (which they were) and asked if I could exchange my O&M.com purchase for that one----and got another yes.

So---I did that, but when they credited me for my online purchase, it range up as only $95.00 instead of $109.00 b/c of my coupon......but, to O&M's credit, the manager figured out what was going on, and charged me the correct amount for the new HD in order to let my $50 coupon still work. Now, just gotta wait for the copies of the receipts to arrive.....

but not including taxes----$39 AR
buys me $262.00 worht of stuff

Thanks guys, just ordered the deal that nebula posted.

I printed all of the cart pages and receipt pages. If I get the 2mb version, they will go back to a B&M for an exchange

I called around to all of my local OM stores and nobody had ANY 80gb WD drives in stock. I ended up calling OM.com and told the CSR that I'd like to get the JB drive that they are now offering instead of the BB drive that I received a few days ago. What they are going to do is charge my card again for another drive and honor the coupon that I used (which is now expired) on my original order and then when they pick up my other drive, they will credit my account.

Basically, they are charging me the same thing twice and I have to wait for them to pick up the first drive then credit my card. I don't mind really.. I certainly hope that they are shipping the 8 mb cache JB drive out now considering that's what it says under the item number for the JB drive. It should be because the BB 2 mb cache drive had an item number of 20063681 and the JB 8 mb cache drive has an item number of 20339475. There is no mistaking that these drives have totally different OM item numbers and I should receive the JB drive this time around.

Just an FYI for everyone that bought the HD and the RAM. Only the Kingston rebate needs the original packing slip, all the others say copies are ok.

I've never sent the original packing slip and I've always gotten my rebates. Officemax usually sends a pink and yellow copy of the packing slip, but sometimes, they only send one copy. If you have several things on the packing slip, what do you do? I want to keep one copy of the packing slip anyway in case I need to return something. What else would you use if you need to return something to Officemax?

Curses. I had them check in back, and they didn't have any of the JB drives, apparently. That would have been so sweet, to get the 800JB for $60.

Ah yes, Sal. The possibility of having to return something is the only stickler. I guess I was assuming that wasn't going to be necessary. Maybe in that case you could print out your account history and tell them you sent the original packing slip for rebate?? I would think that would work unless they were real jerks.

Is the OM order status usually up to date? I just checked my account, it says my stuff should be delivered today, ordered yesterday about 9:30, but it still says my order hasn't been shipped yet.

I guess you might do what I always do. I enclose a note explaining that I have multiple items on the receipt and need to keep it for any problems with returns, exchanges, warranty, etc. in the future. Even if it's only one item on the invoice I say the same thing. I have never had a rebate refused for this! (I have only EVER had one rebate refused, and that is because I sent it a week late) They never get the original unless it is a "rebate receipt"

Wow! That couldn't have been easier. I'm sorry that I ever tried to exchange my drive at a local store now.

I called up Officemax.com yesterday and told them that I wanted the JB drive instead of the BB drive. They issued a new order for the same amount and then issued a call tag for my BB drive. I packaged up my BB drive last night just to have it ready and I'm glad that I did now. FedEx shows up early this morning with my JB drive and they pick up my BB drive at the same time. I wasn't expecting them to pick up the BB drive for 7-10 days. Now, all I have to do is wait for the credit, send in the rebates and I'll be set.

My local store is conveniently located, and it gave me no trouble exchanging the 2 for the 8, and re-applying the $25 coupon.

Stupid Q -- does the Officemax $20 rebate apply to the 8MB version ?
EDIT:
I guess it is since it shows up now on their site as what you get ?
Edit Again:
Just got back form OM at lunch. they let me exchange the 2MB forhte 8Mb -- the 8MB did NOT print out any rebate receipt and they had no idea if it was valid for hte rebate. They let me use the $25 coupon though so I will send it all in and hope for hte $20 from OM. PLUS, I jokingly said "I assume you don't have any of that Kingston memory that is free after rebate left" And she said "Well, we have 2 sticks" !!!!!! Scored one of them too !!!!!!

Went to the closest OM & asked for an exchange, explained that I had ordered the 8mb, but received the 2mb cache model. After some hemming about how the 8mb was a replacement for OOS 2mb, the mgr finally relented. Cashier was going to credit my card for the 2mb and ring up the new one, until I asked whether the $50 coupon I used would still be valid. She then asked the mgr for a gift card, rang the 8mb drive up and then used the gift card to "pay" for the 8mb drive. This could be a good technique to use anywhere you use a coupon that might be invalidated when you exchange something.

I'm happy with the service I received from OM - next day delivery & a pretty much no hassle exchange.

Both rebates should work fine for the 8 mb cache drive. First of all, it's listed on their site for two rebates (I printed that page btw in case there are any problems later) and if you look at both rebates it says purchase "a Western Digital 80 GB hard drive". It makes no mention of the 2 mb cache or 8 mb cache drive and neither rebate lists a UPC code.

I also got the 2MB drive. (I guess that's what I get for ordering early!). My local stores were OOS, so I tried to call and get an exchange but got shot down a couple of times. So, I ordered another online along with the Cendyne CD-RW and used a $30 off coupon. I will now just return the 2MB drive since I haven't opened the package.

I will end up with the 8MB drive + the CD-RW for about $60 after tax and rebates. I had another order of FAR DDR and 48x CD-RW from earlier in the week and will end up at -$20 on that one. So, adding it all up I have 2 CD-RW's, the 8MB drive and 256MB of DDR for about $40 after tax and rebates. It's these kind of deals that can really skew your perspective on what a "hot" deal really is. If you're not basically getting it for free or making money AR then it's only warm! And what am I going to do with this pile of CD-RW's I'm ending up with?

I just got an email from rebateshq for the $30 rebate and it says that it's invalid. They said that I didn't send the UPC or drive capacity label. Well.. I did send the UPC, but not the drive capacity label. What's screwing me up is that this new packaging is different. The UPC is a real UPC now and the drive capacity label is different. If they want the drive capacity label, fine, but I sent the damn UPC code in. I tell you.. I've done a ton of rebates the last couple of years and it's getting tougher and tougher to please these monkey's. I dot my i's and cross my t's all the time, yet I've gotten about 4 invalid submissions in the past month for piddly things. Rebates piss me off, but I guess I'm a glutten for punishment. The good thing is that rebateshq is easy to deal with. I've managed to clear up every invalid rebate submission so far with just a phone call.

I got the post cards (2 of them) denying the rebates. I just got off the phone with RebatesHQ. The $20 OM rebate was already validated (after the post card was sent) and will go out within 30 days. The CSR validated the $30 Western Digital rebate while I was on the phone. So call and get your rebates validated. Just explain that the SE drive was substituted by Office Max.

I had OM price match Best Buy to $59.95 so after rebates the 80gb 8mb SE drive is $9.95 plus tax on $59.95 plus 2 postage stamps.

I have received emails telling me that both rebates are valid, and the check should mail within 30 days.

So far, so good.

They denied my $30 rebate saying the item was purchased outside of the allowable dates. I called and said that was wrong, she asked for the purchase date, I told her, and she said OK and she validated the rebate right then. So, they are screwing up the rebates, but the screwups are fixed easily. Still a hassle though, shouldn't have to call these people.
