I got mine last Friday and spent the weekend messing around with it trying to decide if I was going to keep it. I ended up deciding that I'm just going to sell one of my 27's and use this along with the other. I'm very impressed with how nice this Westy looks for the size.

A year ago, I picked up one of the 32" Sharp 1080p sets that people were using as computer monitors. The dynamic contrast drove me nuts, and I really wasn't that impressed with the picture. I ended up ordering my first 2707wfp and compared the two before returning the Sharp. I was amazed at how much better the Dell looked than the Sharp, and very happy I decided to go with the smaller screen.

While the Dell does still look better than the Westy, it's not nearly as drastic as the Sharp. The colors look very nice and the only downside really is the poor black levels which is really evident when compared with the Dell. Overall, I like the larger screen for my gaming monitor, and I'm willing to make the small quality sacrifice for the extra size.

So its really just a good monitor, light TV viewing?

I have a 720p 37" envision right now, was considering going for this.

Anyone have problems using both DVI's as someone stated earlier?

Nothing wrong with it as a HDTV, it all depends how picky you are about contrast ratios. My local news in HD, Leno, and Letterman look pretty good.

Yep, it's a really good monitor. I would definitely use DVI if possible though, since I found that using VGA (at work, since that PC only has VGA out :| ) causes text in some areas of the screen to be a bit blurry. Not a big deal, but it's sharper in some areas than others. My regular 37W3 at home is sharp all the way across the panel using DVI. I think I'm going to look into purchasing a cheap card w/DVI since I'm sort of spoiled by the crystal clear text uniformity that DVI gives me at home.

It's certainly good enough for light TV viewing. If I was on a budget, it could serve as my full-time television set (with an external tuner) but other sets with higher contrast levels are probably better for regular TV use. I assume most people willing to buy this as a PC monitor already have a good HDTV for that, though.

As for using both DVI inputs, I saw that earlier...the 37W3SE only has 1 DVI input. The regular 37W3 non-SE has 2 DVI inputs, and both function properly FWIW. The 37W3SE has one VGA, one DVI, and one HDMI input so it's slightly neutered from the 37W3 as far as inputs but it should be fine for most people. I've never used both DVI inputs on my 37W3 simultaneously as I just have one PC at home (for now).

My Westy has a great PC DVI picture, and PC via VGA looks great too. I get sharp text on my VGA and DVI ports all the way across.

so what's the best way to connect this monitor from an older evga 7900gt card? dvi to dvi or dvi to hdmi? does it matter if it's through a single link or dual link dvi cable?

can't wait to set this thing up!

Doesn't need to be a dual link cable. The resolution is still 1920x1080, which is within single link range. Dual link is needed for 2560x1600 (think 30" monitors).

Not to get this thread off topic, but I have a regular 37-W3 and want to pick up basic cable (including HD) with a QAM tuner. What is the cheapest/best PC tuner that will do this for me?

Hi all. I just installed this display and I like it. However...

Connected to my XP box via DVI, it power saves correctly the first time. However after recovery from the power save state, the next time it enters the power save state, the display fails to turnoff its back light.

If I manually power the display off and then on, it will power save correctly for one time then repeat the same problem.

Anyone else seeing this?

I've noticed it doesn't seem to power save very often. I'll try turning it off and see if it'll power save the first time. I'd really like to find out how to fix the issue.

Other than that, this thing is amazing for both PC gaming and xbox 360.

It might be a firmware issue? Have you tried the Westinghouse website and upgraded your firmware (if a new firmware exists)?

so i just got this delivered yesterday from fedex and it looks quite good using a single link dvi from my pc. my 7900gt seems to be choking on it for playing games at 1920x1080 though, which is a shame. but the ps3 looks amazing on it.

the bad news is, i did find 1 dead pixel from what i could see but i think i could live with it since you really don't notice it unless you really look for it.

DVI works for me with the satellite box, but does not work on my Nvidia 7600GT or my ATI 3870 HD. No big deal since I'm using HDMI on the 3870.
Still, I'm curious what's happening with that.

GeezerMan, what refresh rate is the PC set to? Try 60 Hz if it's not. Also look for a setting such as 'reduced blanking interval' or 'alternate DVI frequency' and see if it helps.

Buy.com finally sold out. Fortunately I ordered another one just in time...it's got such a nice picture that I decided I wanted one for the bedroom too.

Anybody that missed out on this deal might want to check out costco.com, they've got a 42" Westinghouse with an ATSC tuner for $699 + $30 shipping.

Steve, thanks for posting the link...I was in a hurry and forgot to do it. The 42" supposedly has a 2000:1 contrast ratio instead of 1200:1, but I've never seen the 42" so I can't say for sure if it's a real spec or a dynamic one. The 37" is certainly sweet though, even though I haven't had the chance to calibrate it yet.

Oh, BTW, the OP should change the title to DEAD.

I bought this model and have been having trouble with it freezing up about once a month.
When It locks up I have to unplug the TV & loose all my settings.
I also must say the picture is a little bit less than average.

The picture on mine is pretty spectacular...for the price, definitely, and even when compared to some higher-priced sets. Keep in mind I'm talking about PC and console use; I know other sets are probably better for television use. As for the freezing issue, it could be a firmware issue...Westinghouse is known for wacky firmware on some of their units. I think they offer firmware downloads on their site -- couldn't hurt to try one of those.

Any chance of the price dropping much in the future, or do you think the 42" westy is about as good as we're going to see for a while?
