It's Monday 6/27, any updates?

How LOUD is this card? I'm not a gamer or overclocker but I can HEAR the fan on my Ti4200.

I'm at work... so I can't get to my home email... I don't know if they replied or not. I'll let you know if they did after I get home this evening.

The card isn't noticbly different from the borrowed 9000AIW I was running. I have it in a Sonata case sitting on top of the desk, and really don't notice it.

Mine just arrived. For those who are wondering, there are 3 bar code stickers with this card.

A large sticker on the box has barcode, serial number, product description and various other information. This should be easy to cut out and send with the $30 dollar rebate.

A sticker on the metal bracket on the front side of the card (above the DVI ports) with just a barcode and some numbers. It's viewable thru a cut out window on the box. I'm guessing this is the UPC for the $15 rebate. Seems impossible to get off without destroying it.

Another sticker on the back of the card (on the pcb) with a very small barcode as well as serial number and most of the same info as the box sticker. Very delicate paper, but has some loose gaps where it might be carefully peeled off with a toothpick or something. I wonder if this can be used for the $15 buy.com rebate?

If anyone sent their rebates in yet (or in the past), how did you do it?

Thanks for the info. I guess the good news is that the sticker for the $30 rebate is easy to remove. Since this is a retail card I bet they put the UPC on the card itself (and make it hard to remove) to prevent lowlifes from returning the box with a different card inside.

The rebate form itself says "original UPC code from the product package." Can the barcode(UPC?) on the box sticker be separated from the serial # part?

Hopefully someone will find a solution before my card arrives on Wednesday

After running the board for a few hours, the sticker is easier to peel off the warm card. You still have to be very careful though. Use a very sharp, straight edge blade. I had to get brand new utility knife blade to do it because the knife I was using before was screwing up the label.

The board came with a silver, square HSF, 2 DVI-VGA adapters & Svideo cable. On the downside, there was no Y-cable for the power supply connector.
Also, the card is louder that I expected, but not in an annoying way (as the leadtek ti4600 it's replacing). With the case closed, the sound blends in and is hardly noticeable any more.

Ordered on 6/23 and just received notification today (6/27) that it is on backorder! Hope don't have to cancel because the rebate runs out.

Now comes the question. Is this card worth the 117$ or should I just get a 6800 for like 50$ more?

Does the 6800 have the "broken" pure video that doesn't accelerate HD WMV?

As I understand it, yes. The only 6800s that are fixed are the non-GT PCIes.

[$0.02]There's no question that the 6800 series makes better gaming cards. I tend to hang onto my video cards a bit longer though, and move them into my HTPCs. The component video out, dual DVIs, and better video acceleration support of the 6600GT (specifically the PNY model) made it much more attractive to me. It'll be a good gaming card for ~1 year. It'll be a good HTPC card for at least 3, maybe 5 years.[/$0.02]

As of this morning, no reply from buy.com on the rebate sticker issue... Going to see if I can get the card warmed up and it peeled off as Biraca suggests.

FEH, Got mine this afternoon, and BOTH heatsink fasteners were broken and loose in the box. WTF? Contacted XFX customer support, but I'm very disappointed, won't be able to use the card for at least a week or more. Hope XFX is fast sending the replacements to me... Anybody have any good ideas what I could use in the mean time (plastic screws may do the trick, but I hate to do something half-assed like that).

How LOUD is this card? I'm not a gamer or overclocker but I can HEAR the fan on my Ti4200.

I got this card a month or 2 ago when it was $160 after a $30 rebate. I'd read postings about how loud it was, and when I plugged it in I was amazed at how it drowned out the rest of my system. Now granted, I"ve put some effort into quieting my computer (Panaflo 80mm fan and a 120 mm Nexus fan, Seasonic Tornado power supply), but this video card cooler surpassed all of those fans combined. Additionally, it does not seem to be a very effective cooler. After a lengthy session of World of Warcraft my GPU temp as recorded by Rivatuner was 78 degrees celcius.

What I ended up doing was just buying a Zalman VF700-CU cooler and putting that onto the card. That immediately dropped my temperatures to 50 degrees idle and 57 degrees load. So for anyone who values his/her ears, I"d recommend either getting a quieter card or getting another cooler for this card. Be warned, though. Due to the positioning of the RAM chips and GPU chip on the card, I found it impossible to use the RAM heatsinks that came with the VF700-CU.

The redeeming factor of this card, in my eyes, is its impressive overclocking abilities. Mine is currently running stably at 569 Mhz clock speed, with the RAM running at 1.14 Ghz. Stock speeds for this card ar 500 Mhz for the chip and 1 Ghz for the RAM, and stock speeds for most 6600 GT AGP cards are 500 Mhz for the chip and 900 Mhz for the RAM.

I hope this helps some people decide!

Just received mine, & the HSF is loose & moving around, power plug is not plugged in, the board's power pins are bent a little & the white plastic recepticle is pulled away a little bit. No sign of any fastener other than what may have been an adhesive pad. I'm viewing it through the plastic window on the back of the retail box, haven't broken the seals yet. Waiting for response from Buy.com customer service.

The retail 'X' shaped box was packed into a slightly bigger brown shipping box, with only a short piece of brown packing paper to cushion it. FedEx had it for delivery yesterday, but had to delay because the original shipping label did not have my street name on it. I want to open the box, but thinking I may get extra credibility for a return with the box still sealed.

blackmage,
Thanks for the tips...I ended up ordering the Zalman VF700-cu cooler for my XFX 6600GT when I noticed my card was running at 65c-68c IDLE. Did you use any Artic Silver 5 on yours by chance? I read up on that cooler and compatiblity with the Zalman and figured I would just leave the memory heatsinks off but had heard of people using a dremel tool to cut them down to fit...not sure if I will try that or not. I may just try the fan/hs with a little AS5 and see how much I can overclock.

Viperbri, I'm glad I could help. I did use Arctic Silver 5 with my VF700-cu, mostly because it was the best stuff I had lying around. I don't really think it makes too much of a difference, though. If you plan on keeping this card for quite a while then it may be better to modify those memory heatsinks and put them on, just to help extend the memory lifetime as much as possible.

2nd card, ordered through a friend for a machine I'm building for the nephews, just showed up. The box and games included are slightly different. This one has Moto GP, X2, and Commandos3. Other had something else instead of Moto GP - forget what.

Recieved the card today and am running 3dmarks to ensure stability. FYI guys, my card is running at 49 C and gets up to 5x on load... Not sure how you guys are getting 7x idle temps... Btw, did anyone find out how to send in the rebates and figure out which ones go where?

Thanks labgeek. I printed the $15 rebate form. I'm going to send a copy of UPC with the serial number (from the box) and an explanation letter regarding about the original one is mailed to another rebate. Hopefully we all are going to receive this rebate.

I have to congratulate XFX Customer Support - after sending them a mail message on 6/28, got a reply message stating they are shipping my heatsink push pins on 6/29, and they arrived today (7/5), from Canada! I put some Arctic Silver on the chip (only have AS3), and am getting ~62C idle. A little high, but at least the card works finally. I was afraid some more damage may have been done by the loose HS, as one corner of the chip appeared "filed down". I also re-pasted the AGP/PCIE chip with AS3 - that thing is tiny! It had a very thick thermal pad glued to the small HS, and the chip was pretty much cutting through it to almost touch the HS. That could not have worked very well.

If you go to the buy.com website and login to your account, you can see the history of what you purchased. Click on the order number (for the video card) and click on receipt. You should then be able to view the rebates.

BTW, MAKE SURE YOU SEND IN THE RECEIPT FROM THE WEB!! Not the paper from the box.
