The Sony DRU-500AX is the latest and greatest in the DVD burner world. It's the only drive on the market that will write DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW media, and it does it at 4x DVD speed, which is the fastest that is currently available. Oh yeah, and it's a 24x10x32 CD writer as well, if that wasn't enough for you.
This drive is not selling for any less than $345 delivered anywhere I've been able to find. Even prices on eBay are running in the $335-$360 range. But with just a little bit of luck, here's how you can get one from Staples for $308 delivered.
First go to the following web site and print off this coupon: Linky
This is good for 12% off most anything in-store over the weekend (through March 2), as well as giving you coupon codes that you can use online at staples.com; one is for $20 off a $100 purchase and the other is for $30 off $150 or more.
The Sony drive appears on the web site for $349.98. Using the bigger of the online coupons -- the $30 off one -- would bring the price down to $319.98. Not a bad price, but we can do better. If we go into the store and figure out the 12% discount, we come up with $349.98 - 12% = $349.98 - $42.00 = $307.98. Much better, eh? So we grab our coupon (you did print out your coupon already, didn't you?), run right out to the store and pick one up, right?
Sorry, it's not going to be quite that easy. You see, the B&M stores don't carry that drive.
But all is not lost, my child! Here's what you do:
Go into the store with your coupon and credit card/checkbook in hand.
Find an in-store order terminal and go through the entire ordering process; add the drive to your basket and go to the online checkout. When you get to the point where you select your payment method, you'll find a new category; one that says "Pay at the register".
Select that option, and a copy of your order will be printed out. It will have the full $349.98 price on it, but don't worry yet.
Take your printout and your coupon to the checkout counter and have them apply the coupon to your purchase.
I don't know how well it will work for you, but it worked for me. My drive should be delivered to my house no later than Wednesday of next week. I be happy boy. Hope you be happy person too.
