uberminchen, good price for a 1.3 megapixel, but don't be fooled by it's specs.

Have now had about 8 digital camera's and taken 1000's of photo's, so not a newbie.
Had the SiPix 2.3 megapixel version for about a week, then returned it. Junk.
The 2.3 megapixel version cost me $130 but was only worth about $60, due to very, very poor quality.
It compares to decent $60 digital camera's. I would hate to see how bad the 1.3 megapixel performs.
It was too replace a Ricoh 300z 300k pixel (0.3 megapixel), but the Ricoh shot much better prints.

The Fuji's listed above have always had decent reviews.

Just got an Olympus D-520z to replace Olympus D-460z.
Sold the D-460z for the cost of the new camera.

ppl, you are getting what you pay for. My oppinion, I don't think you should waste ANY $ at all on these cheap digi cam when it can do much at all. If you have $, save it up to buy something at least 3Mega pissel. For those who want the best, there are 5.1 Mega pissel out already. I don't think there is for buying cheap stuff and kick yourself later b/c that $20 is trash now. In this case, $60. I preffer to take that $ and go out for a nice meal with someone special.

and not sure if u can post codes...

so, why don't you call the cops?

This would make ok starter cameras for a kid or someone new to digi cams and not wanting to spend a fortune to test the waters but as was mentioned, you get what you pay for.

It can do alot more than that, Fuji makes great cameras.

If you wanna post pics on the web, you'd resize these to under a megapizel most of the time anyway, and 4x6's prints would still be fine, near film quality.

99.9% of people don't need 5.1 megapixels, and megapixels aren't the whole story.

i made a mistake a month back investing 80 bucks in the HP Photosmart 320 deal.
now i'm stuck with it since it's flooded on egay...

if you're gonna buy a digital camera... don't go cheap, otherwise you're gonna regret it

A few of you have expressed you opinion that you should stay away from cheap cameras and get the highest mega pixel camera out there. I think that line of thinking is rather foolish, yes in a tech world where higher numbers usually dictates "better" performance, i think camera features/options/reliablity are far more important than how many mega pixels it has. I could understand if you were employed in a job which required extremely high quality photos (eg; photographer) but i'm pretty sure most of you are not.

well i guess what i'm trying to say is: when you're aiming to purchase things you've always got to keep in mind what you're trying to achieve or want to achieve with the camera. These cameras would be great for someone who needs something for internet auctions or casual photos since the majority of the time you would resize the image anyway.

Well that's just my opinion anyway.

The FinePix 1300 is the same camera from the Windows XP/Free Digital promotion over a year ago.

This was my first digital camera and was quite impressed by the quality. We had previously looked at cheap digital camera's to send pictures by email etc. However, the color on the cheap ones was pretty terrible and we decided to wait (fortunately, Staples came to the rescue)

This was the first camera IMHO that gives reasonable pictures at 1280x960 with acceptable color (at the price point we paid). Keep in mind that the lens is fixed, so it is a cheap point and shoot type camera.

We have been using it to send pictures to friends by email, loan to the kids to take on a school trip (it is great for this).

We have an analog SLR camera for our main photography, which still has superior quality to any digital camera we have looked at. When the SLR digital cameras get cheap and the megapixel count comes up, we then may then make the full digital leap.

For now, both camera's have a role to play.

Will this camera support 128MB smartmedia cards? The reviews I've found only list up to 64 but they're all rather old and this could have been before 128 cards were common.

The FinePix 1300 is a great little camera for the $$. It's slow to recharge after a shot, but the photo's are really good for a cheap camera...I got mine with the Staples XP deal too.

I bought the 1.3MP one a while back. Its OK. Nothing more. I think I just gave it to a friend since its lack of performance let me to never use it. I just bought a $200 S200 couple weeks back and its light years better.

Nutbucket, where did you get the S200 for $200? I am looking for a good 2MP camera and on the sites, they recommend the S200. I see it for $299 everywhere. Thanks for the help.

I have the MX-1700, and with the exception of the flash being too close to the lens, and there being no manual focus.. this camera is GREAT. My pictures turn out day to day MUCH better that 9/10 pictures I see taken with high megapixel camers. Fuji has a GREAT CCD and they achieve results at much lower pixel rates that those at twice the pixels. The downside that I think of the MX models is the brightness. Its not as bright as i would like. Thats EASILY fixable in photoshop, so its almost not even worth mentioning.
Let me link a picture or two that I took with my MX-1700 (1.5megapixel)
Leaf with water
Flower in sun

I am by no means a pro, but with just a little trying, I was able to produce pictures that you will have TROUBLE matching in a 2 or even 2.5 megspixel camera. Little tricks with the autofocus help... like focus on one thing, then hold the take picture button halfway down then move... it will keep the old focus point (thats how I got the background blurred on that flower pic). If you are so bad at taking pictures that you think you need the biggest and best, well, you may just be right... and the more power to you... please sell me your camera when you are done at like $20 or something...
But as it stands, I am SO pleased with my Fuji camera, that I HIGHLY reccomend them to all my freinds, and they are NEVER disapointed.

p.s. My MX-1700 takes better pictures than the 5MP Sony we have at work. Looking into it, Sony is dumb.
