And you're only getting an xp 2500? I would HIGHLY reccomend you re-think this through :Q If you have $3600 to spend on a system, then screw overclocking... dude check this out:

CPU Athlon XP 3000 - $500
Mobo A7N8X Deluxe - $135
Case Lian Li PC-6089 - $155
Power Supply Antec 400w Smart Power - $65
Memory 1-GIG Corsair 400MHz Cas2 pc3200 - $272
Hard Drive 160GB 7200 RPM 8mb buffer (Western Digital) - $168
CD-RW Sony 52x24x52 - $59
DVD-RW Pioneer DVR-105 - $235
Video Card Asus GeForce FX 5800 128mb - $329
Sound Card Creative Labs Audigy2 Platinum - $165
Keyboard/Mouse Logitech Elite Duo - $60
Speakers Logitech z-680 - $270
Cooling Whatever heatsink/fans ya want.. - $60
MonitorSamsung 1100P+ 21" .20mm pitch - $440

Now you can get all of that for only $2900... saves ya $700.. plus its a lot better than the rig you planned on purchasing - btw... I would suggest saving 200 by purchasing some regular $70 logitech speakers... why do you need theater quality speakers for video games? lol... but yea think again about what you planned on doin!

I'd rather spend the extra money and get the Sony G520P. And the pitch measured on the samsung isn't the same on the sony.

I'd wait for the next gen stuff to come around soon if I were spending that kind of cash. Also I'd buy 2 19" CRTs instead of one 21". Get a seagate HD.

are you going to be overclocking? If not, I think you would be better off with an intel setup, that way you would be fine with the retail heatsink and I believe a p4 3.06 beats a barton 3000+.

Good point! If wasn't for people like Tret overpaying for the cutting-edge computer components, high-tech companies wouldn't be able to put as much money in R&D. I guess that we should thank these guys for footing the bill for Intel's and AMD's research and marketing costs, so the rest of us can buy the exact same part 9 months later for half the price

that can be disputed, they each beat each other at different times, someimte the AMD beats P4 or P4 beats AMD

However, he would then need a different mobo, which if he wants good performance w/ the P4 will cost quite a lot to match what the asus has. And P4 requiress as much bandwidth as possible.

Your new setup is good.

Why are you not looking at LCD screens? i just think they are worth a look, as they take up much less space, are becoming gameable, very good at almost ne thing.

Will you use the ATI AIW? or are you going to wait and get a 9800? the 9800 will be about the same price as the AIW, but without the AIW stuff

Anyway, why do you want the A7N8X Deluxe? It has integrated audio, and you're also planning on purchasing an Audigy 2.

You can also save almost $200 by getting an Barton 2800+ instead of a 3000+

Tret, if you wanna spend that much money on a rig, it looks fine to me. My Klipsch's give my home speakers a run for their money. And the Audigy is a GREAT sound card. Beats even the Sound Blaster Live in clarity and bass response by a noticeable amount.

You obviously are in a financial position to spend a lot of money on your rig, so do yourself a favor and don't skimp on anything. You will just regret it down the road when you do. I am really happy with my Intel CPU having switched from AMD, but going one way or the other won't make a huge difference.

Good luck with your final decision.

DWW, your post was the biggest waste of time I have ever seen, both for me to read, and you to type. I mean, critiquing a floppy drive?

I wouldn't even bother with a sound card. The Nforce2 motherboards have wicked soundstorm audio built in. The quality of the soundstorm is between the audigy1 and the audigy2. I doubt you could even hear the difference.
I personally don't like mushkin ram. Go with twinmos or hyperX for the best bang for your buck.
