Get the Audigy 2. The Audigy not only sounds better, it uses a lot less CPU resources than onboard audio. I can see why you would wanna build such a killer rig, and lose FPS because you skimped on audio.

Buying a big CRT used to make sense a few years ago, because they hold up well and could be reused for your next 2 computers. I'm not sure if I'd buy one now, though because most companies are shifting production from CRT's to LCD's.

You might find yourself with a very large and expensive doorstop a few years from now, when all of new video cards are optimized for LCD output.

The Audigy 2 is significantly better than SoundStorm, particularly in games that use EAX HD. I've tried both, and while SoundStorm is as good as it gets when it comes to onboard audio, the A2 sounds better in every application.

Unless you're a serious audiophile/musician that needs the live drive and external connections, I'd just go with the vanilla audigy 2 retail. They had a nice $30 rebate about a month ago, but that doesn't do you much good now. You may be able to find a $30 rebate at a local B&M, but $112 shipped is a nice price with no rebate. If you are a serious audiophile/musician, you may want to consider the Audigy 2 Platinum Ex instead of the Platinum. At that point, its not much more and you get true 24/96 recording as well as an external breakout box.

I'd also consider getting a PATA IDE drive for much cheaper. The SATA controllers on the nForce2 have proven to be buggy and don't offer any benefits over the PATA IDE headers other than a thinner cable.

The only thing you would want/need the digital decoder for is DVD movies. I'm assuming you're talking about the digital decoder Klipsch offers. Otherwise, your speakers will come with 1/8'' mini-plugs for the Audigy 2's 5.1 analog output, which is the only way you'll benefit from all the 5.1 features of the Audigy 2. Don't bother with anything from Monster; its good quality, but overpriced. If you do get the decoder box, you'll need a digital coax RCA cable with a miniplug adapter. You can pick a nice one up at Radio Shack for $15.

They're the same... except the bezel on the G520P is much better looking. If you have a choice, definitely get the G520P.

Wow, nice job, you were able to reduce the cost by quite a bit. I like that system a lot.

What the hell is mediocre about it?

like.. everything. I never buy stuff at the top of the line, usually buying something that is just below it and then using the money saved to buy something else.

i scanned newegg...

2x2.8 xeon
an E7505 board
R300
1gb ECC 2100
[2] X15 + raid adapter
A05 ( you do not need a burner and a dvd burner.. )
Z560's will do you fine
audigy2 or revolution
a good 19" monitor. if theres room, throw in 21"

you should be going with intel on a high end system like that. the 3.06 with hyperthreading is like sex on a cpu socket.

dude, stop asking questions and start reading reviews. look at all these posts, they all basically say your computer sucks for ~$3200. why do you think so?

with $3000, i'd expect at least dual processors, scsi minumum, raid 0 if money permits... you just have alot of stuff that is just "fluff" and could be better spent elsewhere. other components you have are too expensive for what its worth and you will be hitting yourself in 3 months.

in six months, your computer will probably lose ~$1000 in value. think a little bit.

again, suggestions go;

2x2.8 xeon
an E7505 board
R300
1gb ECC 2100
[2] X15 + raid adapter
A05 ( you do not need a burner and a dvd burner.. )

a good 19" monitor. if theres room, throw in 21"

components can be "stressed" easily. say you want a really good 21" monitor, then just dont do raid. but if you dont care about a 21" monitor, go raid. have FUN with your computer, but don't go around spending like a mofo. if you want really good speakers, down grade something else, vice versa.

get it?

Dont hold your breath for that to happen. Not until they can make LCDs with accurate color replication, without ghosting and with the ability to display non native resolutions without problems.

besides the technical reasons, people buy LCD's for the "Cool" factor, much less the "space saving" factor. i think its pretty much the "cool" factor.
