The Audigy 2 is significantly better than SoundStorm, particularly in games that use EAX HD. I've tried both, and while SoundStorm is as good as it gets when it comes to onboard audio, the A2 sounds better in every application.Originally posted by: Tret

Unless you're a serious audiophile/musician that needs the live drive and external connections, I'd just go with the vanilla audigy 2 retail. They had a nice $30 rebate about a month ago, but that doesn't do you much good now. You may be able to find a $30 rebate at a local B&M, but $112 shipped is a nice price with no rebate. If you are a serious audiophile/musician, you may want to consider the Audigy 2 Platinum Ex instead of the Platinum. At that point, its not much more and you get true 24/96 recording as well as an external breakout box.Originally posted by: Tret
ok ill get the audigy 2 platinum is there anything else i should change in my computer?
The only thing you would want/need the digital decoder for is DVD movies. I'm assuming you're talking about the digital decoder Klipsch offers. Otherwise, your speakers will come with 1/8'' mini-plugs for the Audigy 2's 5.1 analog output, which is the only way you'll benefit from all the 5.1 features of the Audigy 2. Don't bother with anything from Monster; its good quality, but overpriced. If you do get the decoder box, you'll need a digital coax RCA cable with a miniplug adapter. You can pick a nice one up at Radio Shack for $15.Originally posted by: Tret

Buying a big CRT used to make sense a few years ago, because they hold up well and could be reused for your next 2 computers. I'm not sure if I'd buy one now, though because most companies are shifting production from CRT's to LCD's.
You might find yourself with a very large and expensive doorstop a few years from now, when all of new video cards are optimized for LCD output.

Dont hold your breath for that to happen. Not until they can make LCDs with accurate color replication, without ghosting and with the ability to display non native resolutions without problems.Originally posted by: ultimatebob Buying a big CRT used to make sense a few years ago, because they hold up well and could be reused for your next 2 computers.
