$199 + tax for a 3000+ and crappy mb isn't very hot. The chip can be had for less than $150 alone and I don't think this motherboard is worth over $50.

It isn't hot because for a few dollars more you can get a MUCH better motherboard...one that will let you really overclock.

And there is no need to be so defensive when someone has a dissenting opinion.

Do you have any experience with the ECS 755-A2 board? I have this board that I built with an A64 3200+ combo and it works great. Definitely worth more than 50.00. Anandtech did a review of this board and gave it a good review. ECS 755-A2 review

k, im not gona argue on what you think is hot vs what i think

i came down hard on that other guy because he and many noobs think socket 754 < socket 939 when they actually perform VERY similarly

as for the chip being had for less than 150, your right, but thats oem and then you have to buy a hsf...it an actually be had for around 150 retail...which comes with a 3 year warranty...important for some people

this sells for 219.99 normally so 20 off makes it "hot" for someone who doesnt wish to spend that much on a mobo but want the performance minus useless features

look at esquared's link

CPU-wise they perform nearly identical, but socket 754 doesn't have support for dual channel DDR...nuff said

dual channel benefit is negligible...maybe 2-3 percent

please go read some articles and observe benchies

Outpost prices fluctuates every week or two. I do believe this was $199 last week but the week or two before it was $229, more than the 3200+ w/mb. Right now you can buy either the the 3000+ or the 3200+ w/same mb for $219.
Retail for 754 3000+ is $145.50 ADA3000AXBOX
Retail for 754 3200+ is $187.00 ADA3200AXBOX

so you are paying either $73.50 for the ECS with 3000+ or $32 with 3200+
It seems to me (a noob) that the better deal would be the 3200+

I thought about getting the 3000+ when it was $199 but didn't know who made the MB or how good it was. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought a better deal was going with the Chaintech VNF3-250 which is the same price as the ECS w/3000+ of course. But if this ECS is any good then the 3200+ would be better deal.

Retail for the 939 3000+ Winchester is $154 AMDADA3000BIBOX
Prices are close for the CPU as to whether you go 754 or 939.

you make sense. i only called the others noobs cuz they claimed that the 939 is soooo much better than the 754 when they're jes pullin crap out of their arse

now if you want to overclock...then yes the 939 is the way to go, but why would a hardcore oc'er want to look at this combo anyways =P

depends on the benchmark, but yes, its almost negligable. Aside from that, the 754 is a deadend. I'd spend a bit more to grab a 939 because thats where the roadmap is leading.

I've been trying for a 939 but I figure at least $125 more just for the mb & cpu. Does that justify the cost vs performance. If I am reading this chart right Chart
939 3000+ would only be 5% faster than 754 2800+, or a 939 3200+ @ $196.00 would have 5% increase over 754 3000+ @ $145.
Then you have to figure on the cost of dual ram, expensive video (do you go with PCI or AGP). Its is a hard time on limited budgets when you can afford a 754, yet so close to the 939. I was thinking going to Socket A until prices settle, but then there is no 64 support. So that leaves me as well as a lot of others stuck in the middle. Where do you put the money in a low end 939 or a dead end 754. I think it equals out. But hey I am open to suggestions if you got any good ideas & prices on a good stable 939, I'd be glad to hear it.

People who call other people noobs are nerds. Looks like you're backpeddling on this statement since a lot of people are coming down on this deal. "I only said noob because <insert backpeddling here>."
