It might be a price error, but also it is not the same model.
Office Depot has the same model as the one in Staples, you have to look really good in the Office Depot web site.

I think it should (theoretically) work.
I then will go to Staples and pick up another.

Why/Huh? Because its a Compaq custom order Laptop. Which means you have to go in and order it with their computer, and in a couple of days Compaq will ship it to you.

Can you get Staples to PM?

Yes, but only for the exact same system. I.e. the exact same configuration and price. OD.com doesn't show any specs and Staples won't PM unless they get specs, so you can't PM without a comfirmable printout form OD B&M.


And yes, I will be hitting my OD tomorrow morning before work to check it out...

They will ONLY match it if EVERYTHING including the warranty is the same.
Also, the guy said theyre sold out nationwide.

All laptops from OD are configured to order now. You might find some B&Ms with some older residual models still available , but in most cases they direct ship from the manufacturer. I got a configuration quote from OD a couple of weeks ago for aCompaq Armada M700 and the OD manager got the quote direcly off of the Compaq.com business partners website. This is where they also order the laoptop if you choose to buy. When they run the configurator, they give you a printout with a confirmation number that they can laster use to pull up the quote. IF you pruchase they enter the confirmation number in the OD system and it pulls over the price. IMO there is no way a OD manager will not notice a $1000 price difference or override it since their (OD's) cost is displayed right on the screen as their internal PO cost, but good luck and let us know how it turns out!

BTW - According to the Compaq support site, the Compaq P/Ns 265150-B21 & 265149-B21 are internal base configurator P/Ns and are not end user acquirable. Basicall y this is the core laptop component without a LCD.HD,Memory, Video, OS, etc... If you have a support login, you can download the 2800 manual in PDF and see the 2800 series laptop parts explosion.

No luck at two stores ealy this morning.

As posted earlier and re-iterated by both managers this morning, all laptops at OD are now build-to-order and they use ther in-store Compaq configurator to build and order your system. You actually can do-it-yourself via the kiosk if you want. You pay for your configured unit via credit card through the in store kiosk or you can printout your configuration and mail payment to Compaq Direct. Both managers I talked to said there was no way that they could overide the configurator price even if they wanted to since Compaq bills the customer directly. Both also laughed when they notices the sub $1000 price. Oh weel. Anyone else have any luck?
