Hmm, I order mine for delivery (to me, not the store) and got it on Tuesday. They sent it Monday by next day even though I only ordered standard shipping. I didn't even mess with store pick-up because frankly I don't trust those minimum wage making drones.

Have you guys tried calling the main BestBuy.com order # and insisting they switch your order to delivery to you and give it to you for that price? You may be put on backorder for a while and you may have to pay S&H and the $5 delivery fee, but it's still way cheaper than what that memory costs normally at BB or Crucial.

This whole fiasco, to me, has to do with a few things:

1.) I purchased the item online, recieved VALID confirmation that the item was IN-STOCK at my local store. I was charged on my credit card AT THAT TIME. Sale closed. When I get to the store, I discover they did not bother to pull the item I ordered and promptly sold out of their stock. My item being one of those sold, then. As I see this, I purchased a product and then was not delivered the product (albeit, I had to go in and pick it up). I don't know what the legal term would be, but I did not recieve the product that I HAD been charged for. There needs to be better communication from the instore to the online store at this point. They should not charge your card until the item has been received.

2.) I followed the instructions that I was given by BestBuy.com to receive this item after I found out my local store was all out and had given me the shaft. I spent an hour on the phone wrestling with them about this. They told me that I should cancel my order, then re-order the item for delivery. That they would waive the shipping and order costs. This was their responsibility to "make it right" with the customer. My previous order was canceled and my account credited (three days later). And then the money was removed from my account again on this second order. I realize that the money is not actually removed until the order goes through, but there IS a hold showing on my account for that money. My balance reflects this. So I tied up this amount of money TWICE with BestBuy.com in order to receive this item. My account STILL shows that the money has not been credited back to my account for the second order. So in essence, they have my money and I have nothing until the credit goes through.

3.) If the store DID, in fact, have the inventory at that time (as their system said) then it was being held by employees or had been stolen by employees (since the RAM is behind the counter). I work as a retail manager, myself, except in a grocery store. When we have special sales on items, NO employees are allowed to "hold" items until the end of their shift or longer (until payday). We have had people reprimanded for doing so. This has to do with a level playing field approach. The customer should have the same opportunity as the employee.

4.) If I am successful in raising a bit of hell with Best Buy over this, I am sure they will offer me some coupon or something of the sort. And a $10 coupon is NOT what I am looking for out of this. A $10 coupon will not make the current price of the RAM ($62) equal to the price that I paid and was promised delivery for. Not to mention the time to file the rebate is past now, and by cancelling my order, they have invalidated me from sending in the rebate on this item.

Sorry to get wordy, but I'm really upset by this. I have been shopping at Best Buy's nearly all my life. I am like a weekly visitor. I just spent $100 to buy gift certificates there yesterday (before I received the news that my order had been canceled.) I wish I hadn't now. I've never had a problem with them before this, but they have really mistreated the "regular" customer with this.

I got a "BACKORDER till sometime after Christmas notice" on the 18th - then on the 20th - I get a item is cancelled notice - I call today to hear CUSTOMER NO SERVICE say that the item PC2100 DDR is not longer available in stock or product has been discontinued by the Manufacturer (RIGHT, HEY). There is nothing they can do for me with the deal - my credit card did not get charged. I should have taken the instore pickup option !!!!

Ha!
Dude, I did pick the instore pick up at a store that the website indicated had stock.
Then I got an email saying that the store I selected was out of stock, so I called in. They told me that another local store had stock if I wanted to change my pickup location. I did so.
Then I got another email telling me that that store was out too, so I called in again. They told me that there were no local stores with any in stock and that the warehouse was out too. I asked if I was going to be out of luck & she assured me that I would get the product, I could either wait until one of the local stores got some in stock, or resubmit an order when the warehouse got some and they would ship it for free - either way, I was told that I could get it by the week after Christmas.
I elected to wait for local pickup.

Then I got another email informing me that my order had been cancelled.

screw BestBuy, that was a serious run around leading to a quick, unsatisfying shaft.

Actually, at the one I work at, the first batch of ddr crucial that we got after the sale was picked up and rain checked. They were sitting in the back for the longest time until the customers started coming in to get em. True, it would have been easy to just snag a few and let a random few customers to be angry when they came into get the ram, but that's not the policy (ie it would have resulted in a write-up or termination if caught that is...). Also, I've had a few situations where a customer ordered online and asked to pick up in store and our store not have it in stock, I agree there needs to be much better communication there b/t online and instore. There is no such communication bc the online store has no idea of the instore's inventory.

well good luck, i've been trying to get one of those ddr sticks for the past week now. just waiting for the 27th to come around and if that customer doesn't come into claim it, all 4 are mine you better believe it. actually, i'm not sure if i can get them at that reduced $35 price though. right now it's ringing up as $57+ / $49+ for employees.

I finally got around to putting my crucial stick with samsung chips in my puter (1.4 t-bird, ECS K7S5A, 256megs of cruicial with micron chips, etc), bringing my memory upto 512megs, yeah!!! I thought. Well turns out the samsung stick is crap. With both sticks in there, the only bios setting that was stable for the memory was Safe at cas 2.5. Where my other stick was fine with Ultra and cas2. So I said fine maybe its just the mobo not likeing to sticks of DDR. So I pull the orginal, and move the Samsung stick to the orginals spot. Reboot multiple times after changing the memory settings multiple times and again the only settings the samsung liked, was safe and cas2.5. ARGH!!! And to top it all off, I am using just a 133Mhz FSB, so no overclocking going on here. Anyway, anyone need a stick of DDR ram? Did they repackage PC1600 chips as PC2100? I can understand crucial wanting to save a buck or to, but really they are tarnished in my eyes since they really cheaped out on the chip selection.

Am I alone in this experience?

I ordered one stick on the first day of sale.....and selected in store pick up......got the confirmation e-mail...went in, they said they don't have it.....have to go home and call their coustomer support....the CRS gladly cancel my in store pick up order, and order it again to ship to me with no charge on shipping....I was very satisfy with that....but couple days ago, they send me an email...saying my order was cancel.....called their coustomer support again....the CSR said they aren't getting any more....and that's the end of it.....I really don't know what to do now.....I had never had any good experience with BB's website............sigh..........hope you guys all get your order.........

<< Dont know...

I got two of these, and both of mine were Mt chips.
>>

MT stands for Micron Technology. Crucial is a division of Micron. That's why your chips are Micron. As for the Samsung chips, I've ordered directly from Crucial for quite awhile and I've always received Micron chips. I've never heard of Crucial (Micron) putting Samsung chips on their memory. They should work fine, but you might notice less-than-Crucial performance when overclocking. On the other hand, they might be just as good.

I think the DDR RAM is back to regular price at $59.99. Still cheaper than Crucial's web price though.

I understand what you are saying about the samsung chips not being as good as the Micron chips BUT these modules to the best of my knowledge were only rated at CAS 2.5 anyway. Looks like its meeting the standard.

I don't get it. When I called to ask why my order had been cancelled, they said that they weren't selling it anymore. Now it is on their website. I'm calling them back!

Your right, but if Porsche only gurantees that their cars did the speed limit and nothing more; then those with Porsche's that only did 76MPH before crapping out, would have nothing to gripe about right? Crucial has always been known to sell performance RAM, not stuff that craps out 1MPH above the speed limit. Those Samsung chips wouldn't even work with normal ram settings and cas 2.5, I had to go to safe and cas 2.5. I know, I am just ticked cause it happened to me, and I could very well be trying to force feed "well its working upto spec right?" line if it hadn't happened to me. But this again to me, is a stupid move of crucials part, they either really cheaped out on a chip supplier, or I just have a really bad stick, and I don't think its the latter one. JMHO .

what happened?

what went wrong?

i suppose it's the whole supply and demand issue . but damm... it jumped double.

I got a rain check for 3 sticks cuz they had none in stock when I got to BB the sunday the add started. My local store just recently got more in, so I brought my rain check with 34.99 price, asked to talk to a manager since the 10.00 rebate was no longer valid, and walked out the door with 3 sticks @ 24.99 each! They just knocked 10.00 off the price of each stick instantly.

I asked my stepson to get 2 for me during sale. Guess what, they slipped him a pc133. Went to exchange it yesterday, only 2 of latest shipment left. No problem except for the nearly one hour in the customer service line. Since rebate no longer vaild they did give it to me for $24.99. One gotya though, the new one has the dreaded Samsung chips.
