Different at each Target. My Super Target stocks (Waterford Lakes location in Orlando, FL) it in the glass case where the PDA's are. We used to put them on the computer accessories aisle but moved it.

Unfortunately, it's not there neither. Their office product section had nothing but paper and pens and markers. Their electronics section had games, phones, tv's, stereos, etc. The computer section is nil.

Has anyone used one of these yet? the documentation is bad, and I was wondering if it has a removeable antenna. I need to put an external antenna on it, if possible.
Edit: Thanks, Hook

skyking, no removeable antenna. That was one of the reasons I liked the D-Link 614+ when I first bought it. But even though the MS router only has one built-in antenna, it still has a better signal and more range than the D-Link with its two removeable antennas.

I would guess that you could use diferent manufacturer's NICs on the MS router. MS does not actually *produce* these routers, but they outsource it to a different company which produce the boards and circuits for different brands such as SMC, Dlink etc. These wireless routers have to be compliant with the 802.11b wi-fi specs and therefore *should* be able to interact/operate with other wi-fi compliant devices. Of course, some people will have problems with compatibility, but in general , the MS wireless router should be able use other manufacturer's NICs.

I currently have an SMC Wireless Router (old barricade) which has been flawless for almost 2 years, interacting with a linksys PCI wireless NIC, orinoco gold pcmcia (notebook), 3com PCMCIA (another Notebook), belkin USB adapter (desktop).
On this setup here are my findings: All NICs are tried from the same computer at the same location.
- linksys - very good signal strength 4/5 bars
- orinoco gold - excellent signal strength 5/5 bars
- 3com - fair signal strength 3/5 bars
- belkin - poor signal 2/5 bars (kinda dissapointed with this one, i was hoping for a better signal strength)
Of course, your experience with these products may vary, but i am posting based on mine and i have no reason to be biased.

I bought the MS Wireless bundle but i have not tried it out yet. I will post my findings as soon as i give it a try. HTH.

Yes, as long as it is 802.11b compliant.

As a matter of fact I used my Apple G4 Powerbook with an integrated Apple AirPort in it. (in addition to my Dell using the Microsoft card.)

Floriduh Alert!!! Floriduh Alert!!!

After trying 4 stores (Lots of Targets in this area especially when you are driving) and being told various stupidities such as:

We dont have ANYTHING like that (or any computer "parts") and me asking "Does that mean you dont know or are you sure" and being told (Macho Voice "OH yeah, I KNOW!!!)

I found and purchased the Notebook kit.

"Where???" You might ask and I might tell!! For a fee!!

J/K The Target on Congress Avenue in Boynton Beach had 4 notebook and 3 desktop kits as of 2:30pm today,, 12/17.

Sweet deal especially if I get the rebate!

Happy Hunting!!!

Just got back from the super target here in omaha, ne. I just happen to pickup the last one on the shelf. I was the notebook kit. I also notice on the shelf next to the kit was a temporary price cut sign and in small writing was a date of 12/08-12/28. The sale on the kit seems to be ending after x-mas!

I stopped by my local Target in Trussville, AL today. They had one notebook kit (which I got) and 3 desktop kits. They were $179.99 on the shelf, but when I took it to the price scanner it was $99.99. My SMC 16 port switch will be looking for a new home now.

I picked one up at Target in the Eastland Shopping Center in West Covina on 12/11. They had two of the desktop variety of which I took one and there were two notebook kits. They were in the back of the electronics section where the mouses etc. are. Don't know if they still have any.

I was wondering about the speed on all these wireless cards and access points compared to the regular 10/100 NIC. Please fill me in as I have not updated myself on Networking stuff eversince i hooked up my cable router 2 years ago.

compared to a regular 10/100mbps network? 802.11b is 11mbps. 802.11a is 54mbps, but with shorter range than b and cost more.
