Same here. I thought I placed my order fairly early too... The 120gb WD drive I had in that same order has shipped though. Trying to get on the phone with those Rat Bastards so I can at least make sure shipping costs were adjusted...

EDIT: stupid outpost, tried to snake an extra $1.42 outta me in shipping costs... For those who ordered both drives and had the maxtor cancelled, make sure they refund you your change in shipping... not so much for the money, but for the principle of it!

and are those bastards going to send me an email? If I didn't bother tracking it I would have never known it was cancelled.

I ordered at 6 minutes after midnight nov 29 it shows shipped at outpost.com. I haven't recieved a confirmation email from them, and i cant track the order, it comes up with an error. What the hell is going on here? Yeah, we will send you an Email when your order is shipped, uh huh!

Tracking won't register for a couple of hours at least... give fedex/ups some time to get it in their systems. As long as your item doesn't say "cancelled" on your Outpost "order tracking" page, you should be fine.

To be sure, just call them. The wait to talk to someone was no more than 2 minutes for me just right now.

Hi. I got this deal at fry's today.
but they didn't have a copy of the $50 rebate and said they would send me by mail. They took a copy of my rebate receipt too. I hope they do it otherwise I will return in. Free 256 mb stick came with it.
Today I got:
The HD + mem for $50
CDRW (48x something) $39-$39 rebate
Shredder $13-$13 rebate
Air compressor $10-$5 rebate (if you got this, make sure you send mail out now, it has to be postmarked tomorrow)
$39 DVD player.
Free battery charger after rebate
Soyo case $25-$25 MIR
Refurbished UMAX scanner $19
I think that's about it. it was $307 total with taxes and about $140 after all rebates.
I didn't get the cigar usb drive, or the webcam tho. oh well. I couldn't get a frikken cart, so I was walking around with all the stuff above in my hands holding it down with my chin. I bit my tongue
The line outside was all the way around the store before it opened at 7. Inside, the line was 1 and a half hours to check out. I couldn't find the soyo cases, but while I was standing in line, the guy was passing by with a bunch of those, so I took one. I haven't seen lines like these since they opened McDonalds in Russia

like the staples deal. but from the data on storagereview.com it appears the maxtor is slower then the new ibm 180gxp and WD SE. Im returning mine.

The Maxtor they used on the IBM 180GXP comparison test has a 2MB buffer, versus the 8MB that the WD and IBM have. Apples to oranges...

NOPE! If you look in the database it is the Maxtor Plus 9 160gig 8mb harddrive! Go to the data base and you can compare it to the 180gxp or WD SE. The formal review is done yet but the numbers are.
Please go back an re-read the review. The drive tested was a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X drive ----- which only has 2 MB of cache. To my knowledge, StorageReview.Com has not yet tested one of the 8 MB (cache) Maxtor drives. Please review the "facts" before posting and misleading people to believe that the drive tested was one of the newer 8 MB cache Maxtor drives. Additionally, the drive that StorageReview used in the test against the IBM 180GXP drive was actually an 80 GB drive and not a Maxtor Plus 9 160 GB drive.

Again, if my information is wrong in anyway, please point me to the correct page with information that says otherwise. However, keep in mind, that the information I just provided above was right from the IBM 180GXP review.

Additionally, I did go to the database itself and looked up the results of the DiamondMax Plus 9 and compared it to some of the other drives. It really depends on which benchmark you use - because the results vary from drive to drive. There is no one single benchmark that puts on drive ahead of the other in every category. I know one thing is true, the Diamondmax Plus 9 drives are slight quieter at idle than the WD 200 GB "SE" drive.

Damn! When I tried to call staples last night at like 2 to match the price down (I bought this drive from them like a week ago), they said I would have to call back today at 8 am. I woke up today at 10, and the page was down. Does the page with the price still exist anywhere? I'm gonna call them and try to get them to match anyway (hey, it was in stock when I called at 2)

I'm ticked. I called staples to match my previous order, and they refused, saying that they can't confirm that it was in stock as of 2 am this morning. The best I was about to get out of them was a $20 gift certificate.

I ordered mine at 2:10AM EST and it is cancelled. They didn't even bother to send me an email saying it was cancelled. I had to use "order tracking" on the web site to see if I'm actually going to get the hard drive that I paid for.

What really sucks is that they DID ship all the dumb add-on junk that I bought with the hard drive and now I have to pay shipping on it, so it costs me a lot more money than I would normally pay. And I end up with no hard drive. Thanks a lot, Outpost.com.

When they stopped offering free shipping, I decided not to order from Outpost again. I should have followed my own advice.

mine got canceled too. but outpost.com is claiming that they canceled most of the orders because they can't fill them, why can't they fill them, they say that Maxtor has discontinued the drive. how can that be? is this not a new drive, a 8mb cache drive model?? its still on the Maxtor web site, and their sales partners have it in stock, as does the Maxtor store.
any opinion this?

I was talking to them earlier and they said they were discontinueing this drive from (*There* Product Line Up*)and had no intentions of fufilling all of over 1000 back Orders. I would say they don't want to deal with (1) Major Rebate Issue .....I think they would Loose there *SS. It's easyer this way for them.*.*.*:|
* This is spankin NEW Tech thats got them on the Preformance TOP and will NOT be (Dissed) by *****MAXTOR***** This is there *economical* Fast *ss Drive *!*!*!*!*

Woot! It shipped and has a valid tracking number. Airborne express website even says it has been picked-up from Outpost. Guess it's too late for them to shaft me too, right? Now the next challenge will be to get Maxtor to cough up the $80. Thanks for the hot deal fellas.

I don't think you'll have any trouble getting Maxtor to cough up the rebates. However, in my earlier post, I suggested that people save the Outpost.Com Web page for the drive, should you need it as proof. Well, sure enough, about 2 hours after I posted my suggestion the page was pulled from their site. However, being the anal person that I am, I saved a copy.

[Edit]: I just checked the HTML that I saved - I was saving the page right as they were updating the site. Unfortunately, the HTML that I have states only that the item is no longer available. No other details on the deal are provided in the HTML that I have.
