I don't think you'll have any trouble getting Maxtor to cough up the rebates. However, in my earlier post, I suggested that people save the Outpost.Com Web page for the drive, should you need it as proof. Well, sure enough, about 2 hours after I posted my suggestion the page was pulled from their site. However, being the anal person that I am, I saved a copy.Originally posted by: ChemMan
Woot! It shipped and has a valid tracking number. Airborne express website even says it has been picked-up from Outpost. Guess it's too late for them to shaft me too, right? Now the next challenge will be to get Maxtor to cough up the $80. Thanks for the hot deal fellas.

I've got a tracking number provided by outpost but when I check on the airborne site it can't be found. I recieved my tracking number info this morning. I did choose the cheapest method of shipping maybe that's it. $5.50 shipped compared to the $7+.
No problem. I'll retain the pages for the next month or so. Should anyone need a copy of the pages as proof, just send me a PM with an E-mail address to send them to.Originally posted by: waitman

Hi. I got this deal at fry's today.
but they didn't have a copy of the $50 rebate and said they would send me by mail. They took a copy of my rebate receipt too. I hope they do it otherwise I will return in. Free 256 mb stick came with it.
Today I got:
The HD + mem for $50
CDRW (48x something) $39-$39 rebate
Shredder $13-$13 rebate
Air compressor $10-$5 rebate (if you got this, make sure you send mail out now, it has to be postmarked tomorrow)
$39 DVD player.
Free battery charger after rebate
Soyo case $25-$25 MIR
Refurbished UMAX scanner $19
I think that's about it. it was $307 total with taxes and about $140 after all rebates.
I didn't get the cigar usb drive, or the webcam tho. oh well. I couldn't get a frikken cart, so I was walking around with all the stuff above in my hands holding it down with my chin. I bit my tongue
The line outside was all the way around the store before it opened at 7. Inside, the line was 1 and a half hours to check out. I couldn't find the soyo cases, but while I was standing in line, the guy was passing by with a bunch of those, so I took one. I haven't seen lines like these since they opened McDonalds in Russia
SuperTool, Send me your E-mail address. I have the .PDF form for the $50 rebate good for Fry's/Outpost.com purchases on the 80 GB drive. My E-Mail Address

To my knowledge, StorageReview.Com has not yet tested one of the 8 MB (cache) Maxtor drives. Please review the "facts" before posting and misleading people to believe that the drive tested was one of the newer 8 MB cache Maxtor drives. Additionally, the drive that StorageReview used in the test against the IBM 180GXP drive was actually an 80 GB drive and not a Maxtor Plus 9 160 GB drive.Originally posted by: tuan121

like the staples deal. but from the data on storagereview.com it appears the maxtor is slower then the new ibm 180gxp and WD SE. Im returning mine.
The Maxtor they used on the IBM 180GXP comparison test has a 2MB buffer, versus the 8MB that the WD and IBM have. Apples to oranges...
NOPE! If you look in the database it is the Maxtor Plus 9 160gig 8mb harddrive! Go to the data base and you can compare it to the 180gxp or WD SE. The formal review is done yet but the numbers are.
Again, if my information is wrong in anyway, please point me to the correct page with information that says otherwise. However, keep in mind, that the information I just provided above was right from the IBM 180GXP review.
Additionally, I did go to the database itself and looked up the results of the DiamondMax Plus 9 and compared it to some of the other drives. It really depends on which benchmark you use - because the results vary from drive to drive. There is no one single benchmark that puts on drive ahead of the other in every category. I know one thing is true, the Diamondmax Plus 9 drives are slight quieter at idle than the WD 200 GB "SE" drive.

Same here. I thought I placed my order fairly early too... The 120gb WD drive I had in that same order has shipped though. Trying to get on the phone with those Rat Bastards so I can at least make sure shipping costs were adjusted...
EDIT: stupid outpost, tried to snake an extra $1.42 outta me in shipping costs... For those who ordered both drives and had the maxtor cancelled, make sure they refund you your change in shipping... not so much for the money, but for the principle of it!
I rang Outpost and they said to send both rebate forms to the $50 address.Originally posted by: NeoPTLD
I bought this one at Fry's Electronics in Wilsonville, Oregon and I'm confused as heck on rebates.
The purchase price was $129.98-$30 regular rebate-$50 one day only rebate=$49.98.
These are two different rebates. Each has a different receipient PO box # and each calls for original UPC code. This is not physically possible.
The cashier Jesse J Hoeppner(printed on the receipt) told me this:
Just send them both together. WHICH ADDRESS??
