If it weren't for the recent Visioneer deal, I would jump on this one. If the rebate is thru
Staples, don't fret. They sent me an email confirmation stating my rebate was valid.

Yeah, but it also says "If you or your group have been collecting paper clips, go ahead and send them to us they will be included in our project." The way I figure it, anyone from Anandtech who shops Staples online likely has been collecting paper clips.

Just ordered one with my 20$ staples coupon (given to me from a previous screwup with shipping last week). 69.94 - 20.00 (coupon) -50.00 (rebate) = $2.74 Shipped next day. The scanner looks a lot nicer that the Visioneer I got a few weeks ago for $.73, which is big and loud. I will let you know how it scans when I get it Wednesday. It cannot be as loud and ugly as the visioneer; or, can it? Its almost 4 TIMES AS EXPENSIVE as that Visioneer so I better get my money's worth!

It would be nice if you can provide some subjective explanation as to your experience, so others will understand your reason.

The only negative I have heard is that it uses CIS technology so it can only scan paper and such that is close to the glass. On the other hand, the CR type can scan 3D object very well.

I got this scanner this last week and find its scans to be great. For some reason though, in WinXP, I can't get the funny buttons on the scanner to work. No big deal, but I'm still working for a work-around. I also don't like the fact that you HAVE to display the driver dialog to scan. With my old scanner, it integrated into WinXP without displaying the dialog. But, hey for $10 or $20, give it a shot!

Just a comment on the ARTEC scanners. I got one 4 years ago for $100 bucks (very cheap then) and I am still using it. Works great under XP even though they only have 2000 drivers.

Nevermind. I had to go to the rebate center, then search by sku (479363) and there was no pdf, just an online form or a printable html page.

jimmyhaha: I've been using a Canon FB620/U USB scanner for 2 or 3 years now. It requires NO WARM-UP, and the scanning light does NOT stay on. Put item in (flatbed) press one-touch button, it immediately starts scanning. It also provides a very GOOD accurate scan. I don't know what technology it uses, but I love it. A decal on the top says "LIDE = LED Indirect Exposure". Got it at Staples for about $30 after rebate.

I wonder if Artec uses the same technology? Anyone know?
