Yep, my order went through Tuesday and I got my CF card today (12x speed 128mb USB Enabled Lexar CF Card), and my camera status has switched from BackOrder to Ready for delivery

Edit: and my order only took about 2-3 minutes to show up online. (Could be because my original order was an online order.)

You might try telling the CS person that the $50 coupon was a discount that you had earned as a customer, good for any merchandise they sell. It was a discount against your total order, not the price of the camera. Honestly, that's true, and they might go for it if you say it that way.

Just adding my voice to the story. I ordered online Monday afternoon, using the $50 coupon. Camera arrived Tuesday (next day) in Austin, TX. I have been handling my pricematch for the free CF card (which is "valid" in the Austin ads) via email. I sent three separate price match requests because I did not hear back from them. Today I finally got my responses. The first was rejection, saying that it was an in-store only offer. Then the other two responses came back stating that a card would be sent my way the next day. Happy camper here!!!!

Just an FYI, because I assumed that I may not get the card, I went out and bought 2 128MB Compact Flash cards at Fry's this morning. THey have the Samsung 128MBs for $38.00 (Austin Fry's) today and tomorrow.

they requested to see the discount to see if it was only valid online. if it was, then they cant honor it.

gwlam12,

Ask the manager at the store to honor the valid OfficMax discount. If he says anything about it being only online tell him you would really like to give him your business but not if its going to cost you $50. I have done it at a number od stores and they always say there not supposed to but will.

Woohoo!!

My 128mb CF arrived yesterday, the camera today!

Man, what a deal - thanks to all the comments in this thread, and especially thanks to RossMAN for his stellar recommendation of this awesome camera! I'm just disappointed I can't take the rest of the afternoon off to play with it

If you are still wondering if you should do this, STOP WONDERING! DO IT!

I pushed my luck a little, but I got the whole deal for $229 + tax (order online, use coupon, PM to Harmony Computers, call CSR & get CF). If you are having trouble getting things to work out - good luck, and keep trying! It'll be worth it!

Time to pass my APS camera on to the younger siblings, since I know I won't be using it again

Ok, time for a stupid question. I know you can download the pics you take on a digital camera to a computer, but what if I want real 4 x 6 prints or whatever? Can I take the CF card or a CD with the images on them and have normal photo prints made? Will the quality be better, worse or same as an APS camera?

You certainly can. Just make sure to take your pictures at the maximum resolution 2 megapixels. The best place in terms of photo quality output and price is WalmartPhotoCenter.com

google.com with the directions mentioned earlier worked fine. Fourth one on the list was money for me. Look for the site called dealnews coupons.

Can't you also get some of that nice photo paper and a decent printer and do it yourself? I just got my a40 a few days ago and I'm gonna give that a try today I think.

It seems to me that the do-it-yourself option would be much more expensive, unless you're going to print a lot of shots. But do let us know how it works out -- and if you find any HOT DEALS on the equipment!

To continue on Rossman's comment, I just got my photos back from Walmart and it cost me $2.90 for 10 pics. Just remember to crop your pictures to the appropriate size ratio before taking them in otherwise you are at the machines mercy (which is center cropping).

Hey,

I've been messing around with my A40 the past few days and just started to transfer photos to my computer. I notice they are in JPG format and I want to convert them to BMP or some other file format because when I try to email people the pictures, they are having a hard time viewing them. BMP seems to be the best way to view the pics for most people's computer set up. I'm not all too familiar with how file conversions work, but when I try to use Canon Zoombrowser EX software that it comes with to convert, it says the picture can't be converted. I also notice that I can't view any of the pictures through Zoombrowser.

When I plug the camera into my USB port, it loads up some Windows Picture thing and all I do is select the pictures I want to save, choose the folder I want to save them in. Then, when I go to that folder within Zoombrowser, the pics don't show up.

Can anyone help me out with this? It's probably something simple that I'm missing.

bmp files are much bigger than jpegs. jpegs can be converted to bmp with acdsee or something. also, IE should automatically be able to view jpegs, unless your friends are using macs.

as with not being able to view pictures...i dunno, i can view mine fine. if theyre not saved onto ur computer, then u can only view them off your camera. (sounds weird, but when i save them onto my computer, and delete them through a folder, i can still view them in thumbnail mode through zoombrowser even though the real file is gone)

Arg!

I'm getting frustrated. I can view the JPG files in windows explorer but when I try to bring them up in Zoombrowser, they are nowhere to be found. The only pictures I'm able to view were ones that were already on my computer to begin with and are in BMP format.

In other words, none of the pictures I have taken with my camera are accessible through Zoombrowser, but I know they are on my computer. I even dragged one in Windows Explorer to the folder of pictures I am able to view in Zoombrowser. No luck there either.

Well, I don't know why I absolutely need Zoombrowser. I don't have any other software and the camera came with it so I figure, why not try to use it.
