Staples B&M has this CDRW reduced this week in their ad to $129.95 from $149.95 after a $20 instant discount. I then used one of the many Staples coupon codes available on the web. My local Staples has so far been willing to accept the online codes. The $25 off of $100 worked nicely. This reduced it to $105 + tax. Don't forget to pick up the $40 mail in rebate from Pacific Digital while at Staples. This will bring it down to a lowly $65!
There is a extensive review of this drive here. According to all the info I have found, with the latest flash bios, this one is supported by CloneCd and also does overburning.
I know Lite-On is not a name that comes to mind when one thinks of quality, but with the added benefits I have mentioned plus BurnProof, It was hard to pass up for such a price.


UPDATE:
Just when you thought you found a good deal, someone else makes it better! That's what makes this forum work. After reading some of the recent posts I decided to go back to Staples and see if they would PM to the Sam's Club link. I was really surprised when they did not ask for Sam's Club shipping charges. After refunding my first transaction, the cashier price matched the $99.98. Then she took off $25 with the coupon code. Result: $75+tax. After I receive the$40 rebate, the final price will be $35+tax. Amazing! Thanks Guys!

I tried that link before going to Staples. No matter how many times I click on the "order" button, I am not able to display the next page so as to find out how much shipping is. We all know Staples will want to know how much M-Tech Computers charges for shipping.
So I decided why bother. They would most likely not PM without a shipping charge. At least that is the experience I have had with Staples. Now if you can get M-Tech by phone, there maybe a chance.

There is a toll free number on their website. you can either call yourself to find out ho wmuch is the shipping charge or let Staples call for you. Staples will still PM it if that vendor has the burner in stock. The problem is: How much is the shipping fee actually.

That would make this an even sweeter deal if PM with MTech Computers price of $104.

We need the product SKU#, and verification that there is an &quot;instant&quot; $20 off at register.

Also.... I will check Pacific Digital's site (if they have one), and try to find this $40 rebate (If there is one), and anyone that has a link to the $40 rebate... would appreciate a post.

Apparently it is not available online. And they have NO &quot;comparable&quot; item (yea right).
But you CAN just print out the web page showing the PM price.... and take it intot the store with you for the price match ( I was told).

It's listed in this weeks Sunday ad for Staples, with the $40 rebate. I just read a press release from Pacific Digital that said they have just entered into a retail agreement with Staples and that all stores and .com will soon stock the drives. Another thread I was in said that this is a Yamaha drive and had a link to the test page showing it as such, only now I can't find the thread to quote.

BTW - my Staples stocked the Creative 12x10x32 of which there were 2 models, one by Plextor the other by Lite-On. While talking to the Computer Dept manager he advised that I not get the drive as they had only been getting in the Lite-On version and almost every one was coming back in with problems. He had a stack of them on clearance that he was trying to get rid of.

The Pacific Digital site says this drive has the &quot;NEW BurnProof&quot; technology. Is that the same as the 16x10x40 Iomega that has the new BurnProof2 technology?

Go here to check out a scan provided by HawkeyeNJ at iDealWiz. Hope he doesn't mind me pointing to his scan.
I installed the drive and the OS identifies it as a Lite-ON LTR-12101B.
This drive comes with NTI CD-Maker 2000 burning software. I tried it out and the software is easy to install and use. CD-Maker 2000 has gotten some great reviews. As far as the Burn Proof,at thisLink, it is listed as authorized with a 12/27/2000 date. I think BurnProof2 is just an improvement to the problems they had with the first version that is mentioned in the review link I gave in my initial post.

Not a bad deal, methinks.

The drive works great so far, aside from a tray that complains a little on sliding out. It is very quiet, IMHO, especially compared with the 50x POS CDROM that it replaced.

To get shipping to appear on the M-Tech site, replace

Yes, I was successful with the transaction. That is why I said I just installed it and my bios detects it as Lite-On.
