ICantAffordIt is right, you can use existing cable TV coaxial cable as long as it isn't split before it reaches the dish. So just break into your cable box(this might be illegal ) and disconnect the cable connection from the coax that runs into the house. This is assuming is it not split. If it is split, you need to run the satellite cable to the point where the cable is split, and disconnect the cable that runs to the room you want your satellite it, and then connect your satellite to that coaxial cable. Good luck!

Unless there's some very specific channel you want in the 150 channel package, the extra cost over the 100 channel is probably not worth it. For the same amount dish net will give you umpteen channels of showtime or hbo. Or you could just use the money to buy toy cars and battery operated 5 inch tv's and so forth like I do.

Optical, buy a flat coaxial cable connector (usually 6" long) from your local hardware store (incl. Wal-Mart, Target, etc.).

- Coax cable from dish screws into one end,
- Pass the connector thru a door or window (it's flat, so the door/window can close -- I'd cover it with tape so it doesn't move when you open the door/window), and
- Screw coax cable to receiver on the other end of the connector.

Optical, we may have different apartments but check out the patio/balcony. Most of the apartment complexes i've seen here in Houston has pass-through coax port running from the outside of the place to the inside (directly opposite in most cases). That's how i did mine and it surely saved me the trouble of figuring out how to run the wires from the outside-inside.

Running wires inside is the problem i have now though... i hate seeing black cables running along the ceiling or floor. Anyone knows of wireless cabling?

The 301 system is valued at $199 but these guys are selling it at way below cost. Nothing wrong with that from a customer standpoint.

Besides, if you've read through all the message boards and threads you'll notice i'm not even the 100th person to get this deal. The others were lucky, they got their system for free! :Q

<< I find this from the website:
Just purchase a state-of-the-art DISH Network satellite TV system valued at $199 or more and subscribe to America¡¯s Top 100 programming package. You¡¯ll get a credit on your bill for $21.99 per month for 12 months. At our current America¡¯s Top 100 monthly price of $30.99, you¡¯ll pay only $9 a month* for over 100 digital channels. Plus, with Free Basic Professional Installation (a $199 value) you¡¯ll save $462 and still get the best programming in America.

I just wonder if the .95 satellite will qualify this promotion? Because you can see it is required to buy a systme at more than $199.

what about this? http://www.vmcsatellite.com/channels/order.cfm I got the link as spam, but looks intersting.
It's $50, but that includes shipping and installation, and you can get PVR receiver!!

Keep in mind that we will charge your card $49.99 up front. This covers activating your account, your free installation, and your first month's service (regardless of which plan you choose). It is also important to note that you technically will never own the satellite system. The equipment remains the property of DISH NETWORK and may be removed by them should you ever discontinue service.
......

You can have up to 6 receivers on one account. Please note that each additional receiver on the account will add a $4.99/month addition outlet fee. Your first two receivers are FREE

edit: took out session id

Woohoo!! Got me dish-tv!!!

I got the package from thesatelliteguy.com on Friday. Saturday I installed it, and it took me about 5 hours to do so. Snow was melting and constantly dripping on my head while I was installing it so it took a little longer than it should have.

I then called Dish, and I talked to a lady who sounded a little bitter. She asked me if I was the installed, and I said yes. She then asked for the customer's name, address, phone, etc, and then asked where I bought it from. I told her all that stuff, and the promotion I wanted, and she said there were some problems with the system and that it would be 1-2 hours before she could activate it. :disgust:

Time went by, and still no activation. All I could get was the Christmas music channel!! I had some other things to do on Sunday (like wrap Christmas presents) so the music came in handy. After awhile, still no channels so I called back Sunday night. I got a different gal who was very friendly and courteous. She did not ask me about installer or where I got it or anything -- Just name, address, phone, promo, receiver and smart card numbers. Then that was it!!

$9/mo for America's Top 100!!!

Once I get locals, I will be a very happy camper!

I purchased the system from TheSatelliteGuy, installed it, and activated it over the weekend. Now I am watching 100+ channels with $9/mo. Bravo. Thanks guys for letting me in this hot deal.

The only problem I had during installation was that I was only able to get one satellite (Echostar 119 west), while on the installation guide it said I should have two (another one is 110 west). Anybody know why's that? I'm able to watch all the channels though (at least all the channels I want).

Make it even a better deal. Pay one year upfront and your monthly rate effectively goes down to something like $6.42/month

Details on the top-post.

As for the satellite positioning, in most cases if you've pointed it to 119 and have a good reception there (i got 112 on the meter), 110 will fall into place when you go through the rest of the set-up process, though the signal is usually a bit weaker (84 on the meter).

make sure the receiver has your switch configured, in the system menu, and try to see if each satelite works indivually. in the signal stregth screen.

I have a Dish & Direct setup, Dish is definitely a better deal financially, honestly, the biggest selling point was being able to add a UPN station for $1.50 a month to watch Enterprise.

That's where I get confused. The system I got is Echostar 301, and it comes with Dish 500. And the LNBF has two coaxial port, and I only connected one to my receiver (since there's only one satellite in port on the receiver). On the menu, it seems to see that either port on the LNBF should have both 110 and 119 signal. But when I do switch configuration/detection, I only see Echostar 119 west with odd and even selected, but not the 110 west. Is something wrong with my setup? Do I need a seperate switch to connect both ports on LNBF? I didn't see any switch in the self-installation pack.

Btw, my signal on 119 west is 120.

If ya pony up a year's worth of fees to Dish of $341, every month aren't you only going to get credits back? That means they will have the 263.88 worth of credit in your account for you pay off future bills. You will not get that money back in your hands.

Packy and Optical--I have a friend with a DirectTV dish that just bolted his dish to a large garden walk concrete slab that sits on his patio. Probably 2' x 2', but nice and heavy. Seemed like a simple way to do it. I think I'd prefer this over pouring concrete.

No, you don't need any extra switches to get both the 110 and the 119. On your Dish installation setup, make sure you selected the Dish 500 option. Then play with the aim and get a signal on both the 110 and 119 satellites .. the next step is where it actually will display TWO signal bars, with one for each satellite. If you can't get a 110 signal, you're not aimed properly ...

Since I still able to received the channels with just one satellite, will this have any impact in the future (I mean only have one satellite running)?

Thanks to all that contributed to my wiring dilema. It looks like my possible solution is the flat "ribbon" coax cable or a device that can transmit thru the glass pane (not sure exactly what this is device is). Another issue that was brought up by Synder81 was the split coax issue which I got a question on as well.

How flat are these ribbon coax cables? Will using this affect the overall quality of signal?

Also, what is this device that could transmit thru the glass pane? I'm sure the cost factor will get in the way of using this as a solution.

I'm thinking of splitting the signal to go my ATI all-in-wonder TV card to record shows, how do I go about doing this with dish tv? I know Cable TV, you can just split the signal. Do I need a separate receiver? The AIW seems to support Satallite TV.

If this ribbon coax work for me then this will definitely great.

I'll look into the flat coax and see if it works out for me.

LoveThisDeal -- Here is a list of all of the channels and from which satellite they come from:

Dish Network Complete Channel Guide

Most of the main programming comes over on 119. 110 is generally used for locals, and 61.5 & 148 are used for high-definition broadcasts. I get a 100% signal on 119, and about 65% on 110 and have not seen any image degradation at all. Now that I have this list (just found it today) I will check my 110 channels to make sure they are ok.

Thanks StayPuff. It's very helpful. I searched the list, there are less than 10 channels in Top 100 are from 110 satellite, so I guess I am good for the most part. Thanks.

rootaxs, I'm missing something. At what point do you pay for the whole year to get added discount?
And if you pay upfront, when do you get your money back from Dish Network?
