Hi, if someone can help me out Id appreciate it.. here's my situation:

I am currently a dish subscriber.. what I need now is to add the local channels to my current setup (just international channels) and so in order to do that I got a 2nd satellite. Now the thing is the 'local' channels require a dual LNB system so one satellite will be sending two signals, and then the other satellite for the international channels will be sending one signal. I need all of these to get to 2 different receivers, so Ive been told I need a 64 switch to combine the three inputs into one for multiple receivers... is that true, and if it is then where is the cheapest place to buy one? Thanks!

You need a 4x4 multiswitch. Basically you have three inputs on the multiswitch (first number) and 2 outputs (second number.) Now that I think about it you need a dual LNB on both dishes and a 4x2 multiswitch minimum (probably 4x4 is the smallest you can find.) The dual LNB is required because each LNB can only lock even or odd transponders at a time, if the receivers request an even and odd transponder at the same time you need the dual LNB for it to work. Each receiver can only accept one input so the multiswitch is required.

Dishnetwork has all the installation info you need
The third pdf is what you want.

<< This installation method provides programming from 3 satellite locations and supports up
to two receivers. 2 SW21 switches are used to route the signals rather than the SW64 switch
traditionally required to receive programming from 3 satellites. This setup shows a Dish 500
which ?looks? at 119 and 110 satellite orbital locations and a second Dish 300 (or 500) that
?looks? at other locations such as 61.5. If connection of 3 to 4 receivers is required, a SW64
switch and two conventional dual LNBF?s must be used (not a twin LNBF). See ?SW64, 3-satellite
location? diagram in this case.
>>

The cheapest way around all this is getting a second complete system on e8ay.
This would give you the second receiver, plus the parts needed for multiple dishes/rooms.
For example, a switch 64 with power inserter and supply alone costs more than $150!
You can get a complete system with receiver, dish, and switches for around $100 on e8ay.

BTW, you must uses switches designed for use with "Dish" or echostar.
DirecTV switches will not work and are not compatable with Dish systems.

For other info, check out the Echostar Knowledge Base

Got the system -> did a quick install -> called Dish Network -> selected "I like nine" + HBO + STARZ =

There is only one problem - the satellite guy sent me wrong system I specifically ordered the 4922 (or whatever) system with DD, and received 301
I was going to send it back but didn't really feel like going through the hassle. I am getting more channels for $15 less than DirecTV

I got the combo system featuring the twin LNB setup and two recievers (301, 4922). I have only been able to catch the 119 satellite with a signal strength around 70 max. I haven't been able to find the 110 satellite. What this means is that I am not able to get a few extra channels and my local networks. I plan on moving the satellite installation up to a higher location. The house I live in now is about three stories. The current installation is about 10 ft in the air mounted onto the fire escape. The dish is looking through a gap in the tree and I think that the 110 signal may be impossible to acquire. I plan on moving the dish onto a home-made wooden stand on the third floor of the fire escape. This should bring it a better line of sight. However, I am having an extremely difficult time finding the 110 satellite. I just cannot seem to get a signal from it. Does anyone have any advice on how to acquire the 110 signal?

Thanks,
Brian:|

Am I missing something, or is the 301 receiver now priced at 119.95? I don't see anything regarding the dish for .95

Bummer. Anyone know of any other sources with good prices? Don't need pro installation, just a self-install kit.

I NEED HELP WITH INSTALL:

I have a 500 series with 2 LNBF's and 2 SW21 kit

I can't seem to get any signals at all. I have it aiming at the angle, skew, and elevation as indicated on the receiver. My stats are 152, 45, 81 (azimuth, elevation, skew). Also, it can't seem recognize the SW21 switch. All switch test, it comes back with no switch found. I also had a friend tilt the dish slowly to various angles to see it gets reception. My signal indicator shows 0 at all time. Can someone give me advice or clue on this??? thanks!

Aiming the dish is an extremely precise process. The difference between great reception and no reception can be the result of tilting the dish no more then 1/16". Either way, the best way is to just try and get some sort of a signal with a single LNBF, before hooking up any switches or any other extra items. It took us hours to get the dish aimed perfectly .. you'll eventually get it.

Krusyt VT,

I am using one LNBF and no SW21 switch. The kit comes with 2 SW21 but I figure I don't need it for 1 LNBF. Is there a reason why it doesn't even detect the switch when it should. I wonder if the receiver or LBNFs are defective.

If you don't have a switch hooked up, then the process should simply be a matter of sweeping the sky to find the signal, and then the receiver will do a signal check/switch test after finding the signal and setup will proceed from there. As far as I know if I tried a straight switch test with my 4922 with no external switches, the test failed .. it may not detect built in internal switches.

As for finding the signal .. do you have a definite clear line of sight in the direction you're pointing? We initially had a problem because our dish wasn't far enough off our building for it to catch the signal. Also in terms of sweeping, are you going north to south as well as east to west? Sometimes the Dish numbers aren't exactly correct ...

There are trees next to the line of sight but I do believe I have a line of sight for the 152 azimuth. It seems like no matter where I aim the dish, I get no signal. Even with all the plannings things still didn't go well. Damn!

Currently the "I Like $9!" promo is set to expire 1/31/02. Remember, Dish already extended this promotion from before, so there may or may not be another extension ...

Is it my imagination, or does it seem like every time somebody posts the name of a place offering a good deal on Dish Network that a few days later the prices go up (i.e. all of a sudden they need to include installation in the price).

It kind of make me think that there are a couple of local Dish Dealers keeping tabs on this thread, and then complaining (reporting?) to HQ when they hear of anybody selling equipment without adding the overpriced installation fees.

Then again, maybe it's just coincidence.

So,
got my thing last week from TSG(before he raised prices) and I need an extra receiver for my bedroom.
Does anyone know If I can buy any receiver and use it as a second for my system?
or do I need to buy specific models?

I live in an apartment buidling, the rule is that we can only install the dish on our own balcony. But my balcony is partly blinded (to the south) by another building. I can see the sun before 3 or 4pm but not after.
Anyway to pre-determine if the dish will work on the balcony? Any website has the info?
Thanks.

For now,
dishusa.com
allsat.com
natsatellite.com

are still offering self-installation option, so the basic 301 system is like free(plus shipping charge)

Get the cheap $25 delivered package and $9 programming.
Then you can do a couple things.

Most Dish retailers will sell you a stand alone extra receiver such as a 2700, for around $60 - $80

Or check out e8ay.
You can get a complete system, with Dish 500, brand new, for around $110.
No activation required with most of these, but it will cost $5 extra per month to add to plan.
Stand alone receivers still cost about $70 - $80 on e8ay.

With 4 receivers and 1 dish 500, you will need a special switch 44 or SW64.
These are not cheap ($80 to $150).
With that in mind, it is cheaper to just get another complete system on e8ay for $110.
Sure you will need to have 2 dishes on your roof, but the savings are worth it for most.

Another option that may work for you is to get a receiver like the 4900, that has UHF remote.
You can then run the output from one receiver into a splitter, and then to other TV's.
With the UHF remote, you can change channels on the receiver from any room.
This may eliminate the need for one or two extra receivers.
