Deal dead. WD at dell. Changed title cause some people are intimidated by me saying it's DOTY.

pillage2001, you killed my Credit Card, "You, B@stard"! J/k. I got sucked in for the second time on this drive in a week. I'm going to have to figure out what I'm going to do with all this space. Thanks for the post, man!

[EDIT]What luck...I must have got in 2 second before they changed the price. I got the original lower price, or else I wouldn't have done it. [/EDIT]

Wow, I guess Dell is accounting for the "free" shipping and $10 "off" coupon eh? Sounds like Newegg. LOL. Glad I got in.

sorry for all of you who didn't get in on the deal, but this is a semi-good sign for those of us who did. We know now that Dell is aware of this particular product. If they didn't change the item to OOS then there shouldn't be any delays due to supply shortages.... but lastly, something thats still worries me, would charging 189 for this hard drive still be a good price? i mean if it truley is the WD 8mb Special Edition, 189 would still be a good deal after 20% coupon and $10 off.

To all of those who put the drive in a shopping cart to get the price of $169 locked in with the 20% and coupon so they could purchase it later today - guess what. Dell's system goes in and changes the price of items in the shopping cart

Well doing the math, if this IS indeed the 8mb cache version, 189-20%-$10=141.20 shipped! That's still as HOT as the previous deal... If all goes well, GOOD job people, this may be the first Magma hot hard drve deal for me.

EDIT: Pillage, if i get the 2nd hard drive for 125 bucks shipped, i will be forced to name one of my children after you, haha

WTF, I deleted cookies and restarted, then I went to dell and it shows up as $189 original price now. ARGH.

The coupon does show up automatically, but with the price raised $20, that means its basically up %10 percent in original price, then down 20% with automatic coupon, so its the same or worse than before.

Ok, the 20% off JUST appeared on the software/peripherals main page. Here's what I'm guessing happened. They put the coupon in the system a short while ago, judging by the times of the anandtech posts, last night before they left work.. They then prepared to change the main page. Meanwhile some ppl got the discout. This morning when they got to work, they changed the hard drive price up %10+. Then they put the 20% coupon the main page of soft/periph.

Perhaps dell just raised prices on select items, or on all items %10, then offered a 20% coupon. Anyone track some other prices recently? Other hard drives, or those CD writer drives? Because I'm wondering if they just cranked up the price on only the hard drive or everything.

Darnit, I shoulda freaking stayed up last night no matter how tired I felt!

<shrug>

Deal of the year might be taking this to far, if a $16 difference bumps this all the way down to from 'DOTY" to 'decent'.

I''m very wary of these Dell OEM's. You will get NO WARRANTY from WD. Look up the s/n on their web site and see what I mean. Dell's warranty is iffy. It might be 90 days or 1 year if installed in a Dell system, and before you think "I'll just tell them it's in a Dell" realize that they could ask for your asset tag # and then you'd be screwed. That's why I didn't jump on this when it was $142....
