Just got in on the deal myself. Estimated shipping date 6-20. ACK!
Though it does say it is already in kitting just a few hours later, which is the fastest I've ever seen a Dell order get there.
I'll have to keep watching it...Anyone else get long delays?

I think this is a custom OEM for Dell. They do that alot between ATI and Intel making OEM specially for Dell. OC controls in the bios are slim to none. As for the actual hardware, I know for a fact that these 800fsb P4's OC like they are on steroids. Most of the people I know with 2.4C's are running well over 3.0ghz to 3.3 ghz stably.

doh, oh well, maybe i'll get lucky and they'll have an OC feature. was going to get a 2.8c, Abit IC7 and some good RAM but for this price, I will be happy with this computer. the processor and the vid card make up the price almost. everything else is "free"

You can always order this setup and pull out everything and throw it in a different mobo if you want. You'll need another case as well, but whatever, those aren't too expensive.

Why would you have to swap the case?

I gotta find me a gig of some nice Corsair XMS 400mhz DDR, this is not gonna be cheap

Just remember to use your name as the business name as that is what the rebate check comes back in as. Business Name on the check.

The 8300 does NOT have that Intel motherboard you linked to. It's an OEM made special for Dell. 2 of the dimms are angled so that they almost lay down on the board. And I dont see any mention of raid in the bios.

I already check Intel's site. Their OEM info is limited and non-existent for i875p boards.

Okay, here's the question that makes or breaks the deal for me. I seem to remember that when you get the machine, neither Windows or Office is activated. I know the last time I worked on a new Dell machine, that was the case. So, does that mean I can turn around and sell Windows and Office to someone else? I'd plan to run Linux on this machine, so neither Windows or Office is of any value to me unless I can sell them and they can be activated on someone else's computer. Anyone know?

Thanks.

Dell proprietory PS to 20 pin ATX connector for $10. I'm sure that a few of you have some use for this.

don't know about the office. Some programs were a problem in some cases when upgrades are sold only if a reciept of purchase of the full retail is shown. Some expensive graphic software upgrades were sold like this.

As for windows, no it's not activated yet so I assume you could sell it but the disc is not a regular OEM disc. It has for Dell written all over it.

The copy of Windows XP Home that came with my 4500 last year is Dell and is somehow connected to the bios. I used the cd to install on a laptop last year and it detected that it was a different machine and asked for the XP key.

Good advice, although the one's I've received also say (in very small print): or bearer. It always makes me nervous about someone stealing the check from the mailbox.

Regarding the Radeon 9800 that comes with the Dimension 4600, can anyone confirm it runs the same speed as regular R9800 sold in stores? Can anyone confirm?

it is NOT the "Radeon 9800 Pro", hence the name "Radeon 9800".

Default clocks are cpu: 324mhz and mem: 290mhz. (exact speeds updated)

Update: It appears this card is basically a under-clocked 9800 Pro! Uses same memory and overclocks like a monster (see below).

Is it faster than a "Built By ATI" R9700 pro?

The CD key for WinXP is attached to the side of the case. I am not familiar with how the Office XP is done.

June 20 is my estimated ship date as well.
I also noticed that a second order exists for the EducateU for Office XP ($0.00).

To those curious as to the performance of the R9800.
Keep in mind the Radeon 9700 PRO is 325mhz core/310 (620 DDR) memory. Stock R9800 Pro cards are 380/340 (680 DDR). Stock R9800 non Pro cards are, I believe, 325/310 (620 DDR). Same as the R9700 Pro. The great thing is that it's not a R9700 pro and is capable of higher speeds and better performance. PDS (AT member) says his 9800 that comes from Dell is pushing 430/380.... that's just phenomenal. YMMV

I got one of these w/ a Dell 8300 deal (which was < $700 AR btw)...

I havent seen any specs on it anywhere, but it's a very good performer. Supposedly the same as the 9800 Pro w/ lower clocks. Here's what I do know...

- Dell installs Directx 9.0 (not A)
- 3dmark2001: default clock 15000 and max o/c 16650.
- 3dmark2003: just over 5000.
- Has fan on chip, but not on (samsung) memory
- Of the two i've tested, both o/c well, cpu will go to max (430mhz i think) and memory on card A went to 380mhz and card B abaout 360mhz w/o problems (386mhz is max in Powerstrip). However, speed increases werent all that, so o/c not a big deal.
- Dell does not install nor offer the ATI software (like DVD player). They included PowerDVD. Anyone know if ATI will give this to you?

I've got it on hold at $647.51 after rebate. Very tempting

I looked at specs and could not determine power supply capacity. It did say 250W but I was not sure if that was referring to power loading.

They have views but it is difficult to see any inside details. If I do not decide to buy I'll post tomorrow and make 15% available to first PM after post.

I am still leaning towards building the 8KNXP/ P4 2.6C/ 2 512 2700 because I have an Antec SX400 with PIII 500 and two Maxtor 80GB. Probably could do that for around $500.00

Gone!!!
