To those curious as to the performance of the R9800.
Keep in mind the Radeon 9700 PRO is 325mhz core/310 (620 DDR) memory. Stock R9800 Pro cards are 380/340 (680 DDR). Stock R9800 non Pro cards are, I believe, 325/310 (620 DDR). Same as the R9700 Pro. The great thing is that it's not a R9700 pro and is capable of higher speeds and better performance. PDS (AT member) says his 9800 that comes from Dell is pushing 430/380.... that's just phenomenal. YMMV

Go to Dell's small business sector and select the Dimension 4600 and customize it.
Select 2.80 GHz Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 800 MHz w/ HT Technology
Basic Audio
1 Year On-Site Service

Select all of the base stuff (256mb RAM, 30gig HD, no speakers, etc) and upgrade the video to 9800 and the Office to PROMOTIONAL UPGRADE! Microsoft® Office Small Business w/EducateU  Special Offer.

At checkout enter the coupon code you recieved. The coupon was a promotional coupon if you are on their email list for small business. Some people got 15% off all purchases. I have one of those coupons. Others have gotten 15% off Dim 2350, but one person reported that when they used the coupon code for a 4600, it worked.

Now it's time to order 2x 512mb corsair XMS 400mhz DDR chips $$$ ouch
I'm lookin for a raptor deal too cuz this Dim has SATA

p.s this is a very different deal then the other Dimension 4600 thread. The components are very different and the way it's priced is different.

I don't have the coupon in front of me but I seriously doubt it's stackable. All of the Dell % of all coupons I've seen are not stackable with other dell % coupons. They are also usually a one time use so you can't share them with others. If this were stackable I'd probably have a heart attack 30% off this purchase with a $100 rebate? Dell would probably be losing money. I dont even know how they are making money as it is Their margin on this deal must be slimmer then kate moss. As I said in another thread, the processor is $300, MB $100-150, and the vid card is $350+, thats around $700 for these 3 parts alone bought at a cheap vendor like newegg!

The new 2.8C 800fsb with HyperThreading to be exact.

I'm really considering selling one of my newly bought Dim 4550 2.66ghz/533 at a loss to get this new deal. I do alot of audio and video work and 3D rendering which would really benefit from HT technology, and the native dual channel 400mhz DDR support and SATA ports wouldn't hurt either. SATA would really help cache my large audio and video files. I'm also a multitasking nut. It's not uncommon for my computers to be doing 2-4 tasks at once and I do that with 3 comps side by side In fact with my macs running OS X, I normally start all my applications by clicking them sequentially and let the OS's multitasking load all of them up simultaneously. I'd like to have something to that effect with my faster PC's without buying a Xeon setup.

Re: Radeon 9800...

I got one of these w/ a Dell 8300 deal (which was < $700 AR btw)...

I havent seen any specs on it anywhere, but it's a very good performer. Supposedly the same as the 9800 Pro w/ lower clocks. Here's what I do know...

- Dell installs Directx 9.0 (not A)
- 3dmark2001: default clock 15000 and max o/c 16650.
- 3dmark2003: just over 5000.
- Has fan on chip, but not on (samsung) memory
- Of the two i've tested, both o/c well, cpu will go to max (430mhz i think) and memory on card A went to 380mhz and card B abaout 360mhz w/o problems (386mhz is max in Powerstrip). However, speed increases werent all that, so o/c not a big deal.
- Dell does not install nor offer the ATI software (like DVD player). They included PowerDVD. Anyone know if ATI will give this to you?

Dont forget Fatcash (3%).

The 8300 is very nice, been playing with mine for almost a week.

Case is really neat, and the system is VERY quiet. 8 usb 2.0 ports (2 on front). Built-in sound is even decent.

You might wanna spring for the $20 keyboard upgrade, it's multimedia buttons are cool, although they did some weird crap with the middle set of arrows. The standard mouse is crapola.

Also, if you get the floppy, you get a custom plastic bezel for it (to match the case), but if you dont order the floppy, you get just a plain cover so...

The $20 SB Live! *might* be worth it. It has NO digital in/out headers or extensions (unlike retail ver). They install basic Creative apps for ya (Wav recorder but I dont think it includes Playcenter).

Takes about 20mins to un-install all the spamware they put on.

The motherboard is generic, I believe it is Intel made but only says "dell" everywhere (like everything else you get). Has SATA. No controls for memory/cpu speeds (or voltages) of course.

I put high speed memory in, doesnt seem to effect performance so might wanna save some $$$ and just get CAS 3 PC3200. Max perf on this puppy is with ALL FOUR dimm slots filled (read about it at intel.com 875P docs). Btw, Dell gives you CAS 3 400mhz DDR (not sure of mfg).

This is so tempting but I'm holding out for another potential Dimension + free LCD deal.

We have a 4500 and it's whisper silent and does a great job.

I am new to the Hot deals forums but when I read the title, my eyes almost flew outta my head. Unfortunately, I am new to rebates and coupons so I have to ask two questions:

1) How does one get the email rebate?
2) How does one get SB status?

Sorry for the annoying newguy questions but when I saw this, my first thought was to surpirse my g/f with this but I realize that I will have to wait for the next hot deal. Whenever that comes, I wanna be ready for it. Thanks for the help!

If the 15% SB coupon does work, can someone that is not using theirs PM it to me? I hate asking, but it seems Dell only has my email address tied to my Home account and not my Business account, and therefore I am not receiving the SB coupon emails. I may try to convince my sales rep to give me the 15%, although I doubt success.

Thank you to anyone that can pass on the coupon code, and I would be happy to pass one back once I get the email straightened out.

The emailed 15% coupon works (don't flood me with requests for the coupon, its my boss' coupon)
Good deal for $630 AC/AR + Tax!

But thanks to Mike Bloomberg :| this deal is not so hot in NYC due to the new 8.625% sales tax ($62.06!)

I considered the multimedia keyboard on the other dell 4550's I ordered but instead opted to buy a Logitech Elite keyboard for about $26 w/free shipping. The Elite keyboard is the best out there as far as normal multimedia keyboards IMO.

My 4550 was super quiet but all of a sudden one of the fans is making alot of noise. Its also making part of the case vibrant and buzz once in a while. I think maybe its a bad bearing. I'll have to replace it as it went from silent to a lawnmower overnight Probably just needs a $5 replacement fan so no big deal.

hey Rossman,
There is a 10% off LCD's and $40 off $350 coupon at dell home for LCD's. SB has 15% of select LCD's but its not as good as the home deal. heh I remember that DIm + LCD deal, that was pretty memorable. I think this one is pretty memorable given the current status of computer technology with these new hot HT/800 FSB systems with R9800 card at such a great price. Even without the R9800, (which is silly IMO since you can pull it and sell it for $300 on Egay if you dont want it) a P4 2.8C/800fsb system with these features for about $540ish is pretty remarkable.

I am new to the Hot deals forums but when I read the title, my eyes almost flew outta my head. Unfortunately, I am new to rebates and coupons so I have to ask two questions:

welcome! and prepare to start spending intelligently!

1) How does one get the email rebate?

you either have to be on their Small business or Home email (each gives different deals repectively) or snail mail mail list. Go to dell's site and sign on te mailing list for the respective areas, SB or Home. (SB is better usually)

2)How does one get SB status?

When you order the system, they will ask you for some company information, mainly the name. In this field most of the people here just put their own name because any rebate checks will be addressed as the company name IIRC. I use my actual company name, but from what others here say from experience, you should have no problem putting you own name in the company feild. I have put my own name in the company feild as well (that check is in the mail) even though I have a small business account with my corporation name (I am incorporated). They never questioned it and I have had to do alot of talking with Dell sales reps for oddball phone orders and stuff that I do for others as a liason. YMMV = your mileage may vary, meaning your experience may be different from mine so no guarantees.

Sorry for the annoying newguy questions but when I saw this, my first thought was to surpirse my g/f with this but I realize that I will have to wait for the next hot deal. Whenever that comes, I wanna be ready for it. Thanks for the help!

nothing annoying here IMO, just make sure to read up on the forum FAQ's. Some generous soul may be able to give you a coupon code if they're not using it, Please dont openly request for it on the forum though as it is against AT forum rules. Try talking to a Dell sales rep as well and see what they will do for you. I've known a few people who didnt have the email coupon ask a dell sales rep and they got it. YMMV Don't worry too much if you don't get in on this deal, although it may be a little while for a deal this nice again, comparable dell deals are always going on. Just wait for the next big one.
