Aldi Medion: Intel Pentium 4 2.66GHZ processor, a 120GB Seagate hard drive at 7200RPM, Samsung 256MB DDR RAM, 16x DVD, a Sony CDRW drive, a 128MB DDR GeForce4 8X AGPTi4200 graphics card, and a very cool media port.

The Dell has a much better Processor and motherboard/chipset. The extras may be less like the HD and no CDRW but those can be bought seperately for cheap and I wouldn't buy a 120 gig 2mb cache seagate anyways. As for the vid card, the GF4 8x 4200ti is nowhere near as good as a Radeon 9800.

Lets looks at the prices of some major parts alone:

Aldi: P4 2.66/533 fsb $180
Dell: P4 2.8ghz/800fsb w/HT $300

Aldi: GF4 4200ti 8X $100-120
Dell: Radeon 9800 $300-350+ (low estimate cuz it's a non retail model but its better then a R9700 pro and they still sell for $300)

The Dell motherboard is much much better too with onboard 2 SATA ports and Dual channel 400mhz DDR/4slots.

The aldi machine is a nice deal for $699 and maybe good for a home user newbie who doesn't want to go into their computer to add parts. This dell is is alot better computer though at it's foundation then the aldi which is based off medium end technology thats going to be off the shelves soon. The Dell has top of the line technology that just hit the shelves. The Dell may not have as many little extras, but all that is easily added for cheap. Its also cheaper then the aldi rig by about $100 and you don't have to go physically to a store and pay in cash. I think the choice is clear.

Key is the 200MHz (or hyped to 800MHz vs 133/533MHz FSB) That makes the whole platform 50% faster.

Those of you begging and PM'ing for coupon codes, you can buy one for about $10 from FW's FS/FT forum.

I've done it before, Paypal'd someone $10, received my coupon via PM and e-mail an hour later.

I think this is great advice for those of you looking for the coupon. For $10 you'll save over $128, also by visiting the same forum you can use the fatcash 3% discount link and save another ~$25. Thats over $150 in savings for going over there and buying a one shot coupon code for $10.

Don't buy coupons.. its illegal to sell them, anyways. Go to some other forums (like the one with the obese man-purse) and they're all over for FREE!@

I'm not begging for a coupon code. I could give a rats arse if I get the dell now. I will simply wait for another deal, and i am certainly not paying someone for one.

But then I'm sure some types will, the types that turn around and try to sell the stripped parts on ebay.

FW and this forum tend to make me ill quite often.

On the 4600, it says it has two Serial ATA connections. Does it also have two IDE connectors?

EDIT: Found the answer in the 4600 User Guide. It has two IDE connectors in additition to the serial ata connectors.

The 8300 is very nice, been playing with mine for almost a week.

Case is really neat, and the system is VERY quiet. 8 usb 2.0 ports (2 on front). Built-in sound is even decent.

You might wanna spring for the $20 keyboard upgrade, it's multimedia buttons are cool, although they did some weird crap with the middle set of arrows. The standard mouse is crapola.

Also, if you get the floppy, you get a custom plastic bezel for it (to match the case), but if you dont order the floppy, you get just a plain cover so...

The $20 SB Live! *might* be worth it. It has NO digital in/out headers or extensions (unlike retail ver). They install basic Creative apps for ya (Wav recorder but I dont think it includes Playcenter).

Takes about 20mins to un-install all the spamware they put on.

The motherboard is generic, I believe it is Intel made but only says "dell" everywhere (like everything else you get). Has SATA. No controls for memory/cpu speeds (or voltages) of course.

I put high speed memory in, doesnt seem to effect performance so might wanna save some $$$ and just get CAS 3 PC3200. Max perf on this puppy is with ALL FOUR dimm slots filled (read about it at intel.com 875P docs). Btw, Dell gives you CAS 3 400mhz DDR (not sure of mfg).

PDS

can u run WCPUID in windows to find out what model/make it is?

While I have never offered to buy or sell a coupon, these are not the ones you see all over. Why? because they are one time use. Now if it came down to me not having a coupon and wanting this deal, I'd drop $10 in a heartbeat to save $130. Yes buying a coupon code (Or lets say paying someone to send you an email ) may be distasteful to me in principle, in effect I make out like a bandit. Both sides win here. Someone gets $10 for the trouble and you save a difference of $120. Whats so wrong with that? You'd rather pass up an awesome deal over $10?

and I am not condoning this behavior. I already mentioned that you may be able to get a Dell sales agent to help you with it. Just sounds like a good idea to me if I was stuck without a coupon code and Dell sales couldn't help me out. Just think of it as you are saving 14% instead of 15%

Go sign up for the Dell email deals. Then call Dell sales and say that you are on the email list but didnt recieve the 15% promotion and would like make a purchase baed on that coupon if they can help you. Otherwise you don't want the computer. You may get it. I did something similar just a week ago for a Inspiron Laptop and the sales agent was really cool. YMMV good luck

The Dell sales reps would not care if the business name is under your name. Remember these people are paid commission for every sale they make. I just ordered one for my boss under his own name.

I think this is a custom OEM for Dell. They do that alot between ATI and Intel making OEM specially for Dell. OC controls in the bios are slim to none. As for the actual hardware, I know for a fact that these 800fsb P4's OC like they are on steroids. Most of the people I know with 2.4C's are running well over 3.0ghz to 3.3 ghz stably.

This deal is HOT. That CPU and video card alone almost make up for the price, and then you've got Office, WinXP, motherboard, HDD, etc. on top of that. Very very very tempting...do I want to buy this, or books for college in August?

Just priced it out (although I didn't order)...comes to $680 to get it to my door. Christ, that's a flaming hot deal. Sooooo tempting. It'd tear apart my current system, and I could sell back the parts for my current system and get almost all of that money back. MUST RESIST!
