Deal Expired! Great hard drive deals at Compusa with trade in of old drive

I just got back from my local Compusa in Michigan. What a joke. It was toooooooo easy.

Csr brought my 120gb WD SE's to register where I turned in my 120mb Maxtor, my 200mb Conner, and my 384mb? Seagate drives. That's right, you just turn them in at the register. :Q They wrote radio ad on the receipts and made a copy of each. Seems they are keeping track of how many are turned in. No problem with multiple rebates to different addresses either, as each one you buy with this trade-in promotion must be on a separate receipt.

After rebate prices of $124.99 + taxes.

My maxtor 40G for $35 AR (after trading in a nonfunctioning HD) also was ATA133 (MX6L040J2). Nice trade up for a piece of junk.

I bought 3 120gb se drives, each one reduced an additional $25.00 for a hdd trade-in. No limit to how many times you can do this (as long as you have enough old hdd's to turn in) I actually had them get me all three at once, and they rang up each one on it's own receipt for $224.99 + tax. No mention of hdd trade in on receipt, only "radio ad" hand written.

Plenty in stock at the Novi store.

Success! I went to the Fifth Ave store in NY,NY with a 80mb, 540mb & 1.2gb. I was sent to the Customer Service desk when I asked about trade-in's at the door. The rep sent me to the tech line. He told me the 80mb (WD Caviar 280, October '91) was worthless and said it would not qualify. I agreed, told him I heard the ad on the radio and asked what size would qualify and/or what are the guidlines. He called his manager and then told the CS rep to credit me $25 toward the price of a new HD. Got my Max 40g/7200 for $64.99 plus tax or $34.99(plus tax) after rebate.

BTW: The drive still worked.

Worked fine for me at the Route 202/Concord Pike store in Wilmington, DE. Went up to the customer service counter, and the guy there (who was a manager, which no doubt helped) knew right away about it, as did the cashier i got rung up by. They didn't even really look at the drive i brought in, which was a crusty old QPS drive that's probably older than i am. The thing was a total turd too, even with it having the "VOID IF REMOVED" stickers ripped off and everything. They still took it back without a problem.

is there a limit on the size of the HDD? If not I think ill go down to the local goodwill and pick up a few 1GB drives for a dollar each

Hell, why even spend money? Just ask your local IT guy or mom-n-pop store owner, and i'm sure they'll happily give you as many dead drives as you want. They'll probably thank you for taking that big pile of dead Quantum Bigfoot drives off their hands

Hahaa! I love hearing about CompUSA getting the short end of the stick! Lord know I'll never shop there again, but the more money they lose, the happier I'll be.

I just looked on the CompUSA webpage, and there was no mention of a rebate on this drive. Is it only an in-store rebate?

I have an old 20MB (5 1/4") HDD, that uses an old MFM/RLL controller. It comes in it's own case, with built-in fan and power supply. Would they take this in trade? It still works!
Is this deal still good tomorrow (sun)?

My roommate and I did the same thing at Sunset hills too. Except I turned in a 128mb and 425mb and he turned in a 435mb. LOL

deal ended today. However, the OD deal is MUCH MUCH hotter $10 after rebate. And you can toss your old HDs into the trash.

I just tried this today at the Ann Arbor MI Cusa today (sunday) at 5:55pm they did it no questions asked. I now have a 100gb maxtor for 75 bux, not bad at all.
