this is crap.
I called in on friday and got the message that the price of $860 is guaranteed if I was willing to wait until monday or tuesday.
I called in today and the guy told me even if I had ordered on friday (03/11/05), I still wouldn't get that price.

I'm pissed now.
Congratulations to those who got their monitors.

Thanks for the info on the pixel test, I was looking to test my 2001FP. Linked for the lazy.

It tested with no dead pixels. I'll pop for the 24" UW when I get a newer computer. Right now I'm still running a 5 year old Inspiron. Hey, it works!!

Sorry to hear that Eek, I'll be opening mine up and tweaking it in a few minutes. I'll report back on pixels/sound

I got mine today. No dead pixels, stuck pixels, or backlight issues.

My first 2005fpw had all the problems, my replacement had no dead pixels but a small glow coming from the corners that I figured was normal. This thing is perfect though.

It's pretty big and takes some getting used to.

I am using it right now i would love to say "I LOVE IT" oh my God beautiful. This is my first LCD i have been using 19" Flat screen CRT monitor before it the difference is great the picture is excellent i just watch a DVD Movie on it there is no dead pixel or any thing i noticed yet. I would recommend it to any one who can afford it.

It's kinda like the whine of a tv, but maybe a bit louder... if I don't get used to this soon, I may have a hard decision to make. It's only audible from <24" or so, and most of the time, I'd be that far away, but knowing it's there and occasionally being closer, it might bother me. (and no, it's not one of those ridiculous things where I have to put my ear up against the back of the display to hear the noise)

I know what you mean. I had a 2001FP a couple of months ago and had to send it back for the same high pitch noise. I tried to convince myself that it wasn't there because the screen was flawless and I didn't want to chance getting a refurb. in return with a not-so-perfect screen, but alas, it had to go back. The replacement had a perfect screen minus the high pitch noise. Good luck w/ it!

I've read other posts on other boards about a whirring noise that you can only hear when up close the the monitor, but I'm not sure if the high pitched whine is normal. I guess I'll compare the two and keep the better one

So besides me and Darstar, does anyone else hear a really high pitched (like a tv) whining noise (besides my usual whining )? (It's most audible at the back of the monitor, but also when seated straight ahead of it and within 24" or so)
An audible high pitched whine is not normal for any LCD afaik. I wouldn't live w/ it especially after just dropping a grand on it. IMO a sound like that only has a chance of getting worse over time, not better. Plus if you replace it now and quickly, chances are you'll definitely get a new one and not a refurb since they haven't been out long enough for Dell to even build a decent inventory of refurbs yet.

EDIT: Oops...I didn't read far enough to see that you were replacing it. You'll be glad you did

I just picked mine up about an hour ago. BEAUTIFUL... just beautiful. I only wish I had more time to test it out tonight.

By the way, thanks for mentioning those gamma settings Eek. That made all the difference in the world.

Edit: Mine doesn't have the whinning (at least I can't hear it if it does).

Hooked this bad boy up to my HD DVR and watched a movie on HD HBO and HD Showtime.

Also watch other shows like HD ESPN and HD MOV and it was as clear as any tv I have ever seen, including my HD SONY

Awesome

I guess the consesus is that with a HD signal, the LCD is gorgeous as a TV monitor but suck if the signal is normal cable or DVD.

Wish I had a HD signal to test it out.

well my normal cable looks great unless you stretch it and make it huge. Normal cable is what 800x600? of course its going to look bad if you blow it up and stand supre close to the monitor

Well, you know I was hoping to use this LCD as a TV monitor too.
I knew it was going to be like this since I did have the 2005fpw and returned it.
I was hoping at least DVD would look good using the component input but it didn't really make a big difference.

I might have to buy a real HDTV monitor..

To help with acceptable looking DVD viewing: UP-CONVERTING DVD PLAYER

I have no hands on experience w/ HD but I read and learn a lot. If you want acceptable looking DVDs on an HD capable monitor of any sort (even the 2405, which is HD capable)you've got to up-convert the signal to more closely match the res. you're running your display at.
