No flames plase just my 2 cents...

I purchased this RX3 deal at Target when first posted to replace an old Dremel. I picked up the RTX3 for $28.88, but found it to be inferior to even my 10 year old Dremel. The motor in the RX3 seems to be noisy and unbalanced compared to the Dremel and the bit chuck seems very cheap and incapable of holding many of the fine bits that I already have with my old Dremel. The overall look and feel of the RX3 is just not up to par with the Dremel tools. I ended up returning the RX3 last Friday after I found and purchased the Digital Dremel 119 picece tool kit #5227-01 at Sams Club B&M for $59.98 (originally $79.91). By the time that you add up the things that the RX3 does not have that the 5227-01 does, the prices are about the same, but there is a significance ifference in quality and performance. I also found a nice micro carbide bit set across the street at Costco for $10.91.

Getreal,

Can you list the specs for the RTX-3? I'm aware of the RTX-1, RTX-2, and RTX-4. But I've found no info about the RTX-3. Thanks!

I don't know the specs for the RX3. I purchased it at Target B&M. I was looking for the RX1 or RX2 , but the only RX1 that they still had available was missing some pieces. The mamager let me have the RX3 for the same price. The original price was the same for both. The tool included a 53 piece accessory kit.

I just bought the 3956 Dremel Superkit at Home Depot. It's a HD exclusive that comes with the flex-shaft and the multipurpose cutting tool. Regular price was $79.99 (which was a good deal) and is now $59.99. I guess HD is closing out this model according to one of the sales people.

Now.. I have the Dremel and the RTX-1 and here are my observations..

First of all, it appears that most, if not all of the accessories are swappable. I'm no expert on some of the finer tools, so I can't tell you any subtleties. What I can tell you is that the multipurpose cutting tool and the flex tool from the Dremel set work with the RTX-1. The only drawback I see is that the depth gauge on the multipurpose cutting tool might be off because the thread depth is shorter on the RTX-1, where the tool screws on. I can't see it being a big deal though.

As far as tools go, I have a mixed bag feeling.. I like the features on the RTX much better like the flip lock to change bits and I like the on/off switch on the top. I also like the fact that the RTX has the separate speed dial. I also like the grip better on the RTX.

What I don't think I like about the RTX is that it is noisier at full speed and it does seem to vibrate more than the Dremel. This could be because of the bigger motor or possibly a balance thing, but I just don't know. It just seemed like the RTX was spinning at twice the speed by the feel and sound of the tool, when in fact, it's supposed to be running at about 5,000 rpm less. I wonder if there is a way to test what the speed of these tools are. Dremel could be fudging that 35,000 rpm rating..

The Dremel is quiet and seems smoother, but I did notice that the tool seemed to get hotter more easily. Could be because it has a less powerful motor than the RTX. I don't know.. It just seems like it's not spinning as fast at top speed, but I can't be sure of it. It's probably the noise and vibration of the RTX that makes it seem like it's spinning faster.

What it seems like to me is that the RTX has a more powerful motor and this would create more torque. I bet the RTX would work better than the Dremel on the stuff that you really have to bear down on. It probably stays cooler and bogs down much less than the Dremel.

The Dremel would probably be better for either high speed work or detailed work where you need more finesse. The smoother motor with less noise would be beneficial here..

What I think I'm going to do since I got a great deal on both of the tools is keep both of them. I'll use the RTX for the grunt work and use the Dremel for the stuff that requires more finesse or a higher speed.

I know this is a old topic but my Target never got the RTX in yet and I had a raincheck. So I went in asking when this will come in a took up the Dremel MultiPro 3925-01 35,000rpm but only 45 accessories and asked if I could take this in its place as it is comparable. She said yes...so she took the raincheck and I walked out with a variable speed Dremel (the newer model)!

I tried the "list of places" and didn't find much for attachments.
Will the RTX-1 work with the Dremel router table?
