So, has anyone used this printer? I have heard it gets very hot and curls even the nicest paper.
I've had one for several months, and have run 6 or 7K pages through it, mixed duplexed and not, using almost exclusively decent quality (but not great) general purpose/copier paper (20lb), and haven't had problems - 1 jam, no curling (well, nothing significant enough that I noted it). I have also run transparencies through it (through the single page feed, not the paper tray) without problems.
The paper does get pretty hot (I haven't noticed the printer itself doing so). I have also had a light burning smell (like some coating or motor lubricant was cooking off) - this happened several times when it was brand new (they have a support article that mentions this) and occasionally more recently, but it goes away and so far no flames...
At least parts of it feel a bit flimsy (like the paper tray), but so far this doesn't seem to reflect in its performance.
It is fast, seems to duplex well (less apparent time penalty for duplexing than my old Lexmark Optra S), and the lack of any significant control/display panel hasn't been an issue for me thus far.
I have so far only printed to it from Windows (mostly Vista) and OS X - no Linux, and only from machines plugged into it via USB - no networking (direct or through another machine) yet. I hope to make room for it near an ether switch this weekend and plug it in so that I can get to it directly from all my machines, and (if anyone still cares by then) can report if there were any problems.
Biggest issue I've seen so far is that toner cartridges seem quite expensive - close to $100 shipped for a cartridge rated at 5K pages. I haven't found any after market cartridges yet, though I did see someone selling refill toner that they claim is formulated for it. I haven't tried that yet, but I need another cartridge (it'll be my 3rd) and may do that if there aren't other choices quite soon, since I was used to paying about half that for (OEM quality) after market cartridges for my Optra S that were rated at 17K pages...
