Just came back from OD to pick one up. Sweet deal! Thanks OP. As of 2 PM EST, there were still 4 on the shelf when I left.

Snagged one at store #447 in Tallahassee today. Box had yellow clearance tag for $119.99, but it rang up at $39.99. Thanks again.

So, has anyone used this printer? I have heard it gets very hot and curls even the nicest paper.

Picked one up, thanks a ton Excelsior!

Was priced on the shelf at $39.99 but none on the floor. One of the techs there checked the store room and found one for me. I heard a few "wows" from the people working there.

I've had one for several months, and have run 6 or 7K pages through it, mixed duplexed and not, using almost exclusively decent quality (but not great) general purpose/copier paper (20lb), and haven't had problems - 1 jam, no curling (well, nothing significant enough that I noted it). I have also run transparencies through it (through the single page feed, not the paper tray) without problems.

The paper does get pretty hot (I haven't noticed the printer itself doing so). I have also had a light burning smell (like some coating or motor lubricant was cooking off) - this happened several times when it was brand new (they have a support article that mentions this) and occasionally more recently, but it goes away and so far no flames...

At least parts of it feel a bit flimsy (like the paper tray), but so far this doesn't seem to reflect in its performance.

It is fast, seems to duplex well (less apparent time penalty for duplexing than my old Lexmark Optra S), and the lack of any significant control/display panel hasn't been an issue for me thus far.

I have so far only printed to it from Windows (mostly Vista) and OS X - no Linux, and only from machines plugged into it via USB - no networking (direct or through another machine) yet. I hope to make room for it near an ether switch this weekend and plug it in so that I can get to it directly from all my machines, and (if anyone still cares by then) can report if there were any problems.

Biggest issue I've seen so far is that toner cartridges seem quite expensive - close to $100 shipped for a cartridge rated at 5K pages. I haven't found any after market cartridges yet, though I did see someone selling refill toner that they claim is formulated for it. I haven't tried that yet, but I need another cartridge (it'll be my 3rd) and may do that if there aren't other choices quite soon, since I was used to paying about half that for (OEM quality) after market cartridges for my Optra S that were rated at 17K pages...

He won't be able to check for you until next Sunday, as posted. Just call up the store and ask them. And if they say they don't have it in stock, politely ask for them to check the computer for other stores in the area with stock. They're usually very friendly and helpful. Worked for me.

Sorry, I am not working till Sunday. Do as havoti said...just call them, give them the SKU, and ask if they have any left.

Good grief! I guess this printer will work for me just fine then... I doubt I'll print 2K pages in the expected lifetime of this printer. (I just wanted something to print things like maps, recipes, and instructions on that wouldn't bleed when a hint of moisture came along)

On a side note, after reading the reviews on the CLP 600N (color laser printer on clearance for $129) I've decided to return it. It might be a good deal somewhere under $80 as it apparently eats toner for breakfast among other issues. It's also the size of a full medium duty laser printer and weighs 46#! Actually, the size is the driver for returning it. Price was secondary.

Props to the OP. I have mine sitting at home.

Wow, this is a nice printer. The control you have over it using Ethernet is impressive. Very happy with it and thanks again Ex!

When I registered, the manufacture date said 12/31/07, so the toner is 1-1/2 years old, but it seems to be perfectly fine.

Wouldnt that make it 6months old? Not too shabby, Im gonna try to snag one if I can. With 3 laptops and one gaming rig Id love the ethernet capability.
