These speakers originally retailed for $99 at one time, but since it is an older product, the price has been dropping. One thing to note.. Creative wasn't involved with these speakers when they came out. I guess Creative bought the rights to distribute them from Cambridge Soundworks. I can't really comment on the quality of the newer Cambridge Soundworks speakers, but these were excellent for the price. I paid $40 for mine on a special deal 2 years ago and I was pleased as anything with them. Sure they don't rattle the walls with a 4" woofer, but they sound really nice. Like I said before, I would rate these higher than the Z560's that I have. My Z560's have really gotten annoying with the excess of midbass boom. Unfortunately, I like to listen to music instead of piss off the neighbors, so I will probably be selling the Z560's soon.

Anyway.. Anything under $20 for these speakers is a complete steal. Grab em if you can. I don't have a nearby Staples B&M, otherwise I'd probably buy another pair to use somewhere.

PS.. Just because they are older, doesn't mean that the newer speakers kick these little guys butt. As a matter of fact, I've heard a lot of new garbage. Speakers aren't like video cards or cpu's. They don't change that much and if it sounds good, it sounds good no matter if it's 4 years old. I have noticed that people seem to like the big, boomy bass sound, so I see that the pc speaker market seems to be going in that direction. If more people actually demanded good sound quality out of their pc speakers, maybe it would change..

I'm rambling now..

Like I said in other posts....Cambridge Soundworks doens't make ANY bad sounding products. Thier speakers either sound:

1. Good
2. Great
3. EXCELLENT

depending on how much you spend.

If the coupon is added in, don't use the coupon because the difference would be greater. Then the extra 10% off would be greater, and you get it for a dollar cheaper.

Staples didnt have any and they swear they never even stocked these. I went to my local Fry's that had them and tested them side by side with the other 3 to 5 piece systems and these are the best sounding by far. There was a 5 piece that got a little louder, but these Cambridge sound great. The bass is very tight and the highs are very crisp and voices can be heard easily. I swear these things have a higher range than 60-20,000. I am a huge car stereo fanatic that has tripped out my car and I can personally say I know a bit about music. These sound like they have a range from 40-22,000 khz or so and the RMS power is underrated. I have a 100 watt RMS stereo in my living room and these cambridge get higher decibles cleanly. Nothing is too much or too little so without an equalizer, these are very well balanced.
I am surprised not more people are talking about this.

Sleeper5555: I posted the HiFi.com deals earlier in this thread, but I'll explain it more. There was an earlier thread about this.

Link on Hifi.com's homepage 'In the spotlight'-

"Special Offer: For a limited time only, you will get a Cambridge SoundWorks PCWORKS Multimedia speaker system (est. retail value: $39.99) FREE after making your first qualifying transaction(s) of $25 or more with the card. You also get 3,000 bonus E-WARDS points after you make your first purchase with the card - a $30 value!* " Qualifying transactions must occur within the same billing cycle ending on or before 3/31/02, according to my paperwork.

I signed up 11/15/01 and recvd my card the next week. Spent the required $25 on groceries. Speakers showed up 1/31/02 (offer says 8-12 weeks, so not bad). I'm not sure what to do with the $30 gc. They have a lot of accessories for under $30. Shipping is based on total ($5 for $1-99.99). I've been using the card some, and may save up for speaker stands. You get $1 credit for every $200 you spend, so it may take a while!

I received my speakers a couple of days ago.

Just set them up to my TV.

I was delighted. The sound it produces is downright amazing.

Thanks again, AT!

If you apply for the Hifi.com credit card, you get them for free. And with the $30 GC they give you , you can buy another set for $9.99. So why go thru all the rebate and PM hassle?
