These speakers originally retailed for $99 at one time, but since it is an older product, the price has been dropping. One thing to note.. Creative wasn't involved with these speakers when they came out. I guess Creative bought the rights to distribute them from Cambridge Soundworks. I can't really comment on the quality of the newer Cambridge Soundworks speakers, but these were excellent for the price. I paid $40 for mine on a special deal 2 years ago and I was pleased as anything with them. Sure they don't rattle the walls with a 4" woofer, but they sound really nice. Like I said before, I would rate these higher than the Z560's that I have. My Z560's have really gotten annoying with the excess of midbass boom. Unfortunately, I like to listen to music instead of piss off the neighbors, so I will probably be selling the Z560's soon.
Anyway.. Anything under $20 for these speakers is a complete steal. Grab em if you can. I don't have a nearby Staples B&M, otherwise I'd probably buy another pair to use somewhere.
PS.. Just because they are older, doesn't mean that the newer speakers kick these little guys butt. As a matter of fact, I've heard a lot of new garbage. Speakers aren't like video cards or cpu's. They don't change that much and if it sounds good, it sounds good no matter if it's 4 years old. I have noticed that people seem to like the big, boomy bass sound, so I see that the pc speaker market seems to be going in that direction. If more people actually demanded good sound quality out of their pc speakers, maybe it would change..
I'm rambling now..
